(Admin code added by Palmer - K5878328)

I'm looking for a logo for my "Digital Learning" company. We create ebooks, software and videos that educate our clients on a variety of topics, mainly technical.

The name is 'Blue Fox Labs' or 'BlueFoxLabs'. No .com or tagline necessary.

I kind of like the logo at bighugegames.com. I think it might be cool to have the labs part separated from the other words.

I prefer simple over complicated. Edgy over fru-fru. Powerful over squirrley. Professional over dumb. Hope that helps.

Deadline: Friday May 30th.
Prize: $135.

Thanks,
Ben

Great Designs!

ElKootcho:
Design 1: Nice look. Font is very funky and I like the labs separated. The logo reminds me of Napster.
Design 2: Very creative design with the fox-tail. I've been mulling this one over. It blasts "LOOK AT ME" but I'm worried it might be over the top.

rkosmic1:
Design 2 and 3 are my favorites. I like the funky font and the outline. The spinning hex and the tag Labs don't quite fit though.

Victoria:
I like the Macromedia-type star but the wording isn't working for me.

Sparkie:
Creative use of the fox, but the logo as a whole doesn't have the edge I'm looking for.

ondarox:
Funky design, bold color. But I'm not seeing a cohesive professional edge with the design. No tag for sure (reducing the learning curve), and the labs font isn't my favorite.

cre8or:
Creative designs, but way-y-y to creative for my taste. Simple is powerful in my opinion. None of the concepts are really catching my eye.

rabbitdog:
Fun fox, but not edgy enough. I want something that will work well in black-and-white, and this type of logo will break down, unfortunately. I really want the words to pop out and not be overwhelmed by the image.

Overall, in the designs I see so-far, I like ElKootcho's second design the best. It is bold, simple, edgy, but doesn't overwhelm the words, which are important to me. However, I'm not sure if it might be over-the-top, better suited for a hockey-team's logo.

Please feel free to post me any comments or questions!

Thanks,
Ben

Here's one with the tail toned down a bit.

jumbali,

Do you have any suggestions on how I can increase the "edginess" of the logo? Did you have a different font in mind? Something more techy or sophisticated?

I look forward to hearing your feedback :)

Feedback for the 2 new designs.

BTW -- The Contest Ends Friday!

ElKootcho: I still dig the design. In fact, now I miss the stronger sporty look from before. Lets tune the logo you have. Perhaps you can do something with the labs part. Maybe try no italics. Maybe lower the tail a little so its obviously a 'u'. Could we make the two leading words look just a shade different somehow? Thanks!

ejlain[ed]: None of these designs particularly turns me on. I like your creativity... with the notched L and the fox sitting in for the U, but the designs don't show the forceful impactful edginess I'm looking for. Love the creativity though!

Thanks!
Ben

Here's another try, before the deadline is up:
Minimalist
Blue fox - image
Paper = eBook (representation)
Line drawing looks "technical" -- without being precise (no straight edges and all).
Please adivse.
Thank you,
Kimber

A few mods to my latest posting per your suggestions. Did you prefer this tail or the original larger tail?

Great designs everyone!

cre8or:
I like the simpler design over your first incarnation. It isn't quite bold enough for me. And maybe the hand-drawn look is not techy enough for me. Good concept though, the light and dark parts of the fox's face.

ElKootcho:
Let's go back to the bold drop shadow we had before. The colors aren't working for me. Neither is the look of the labs. Too star trekky for my taste.

ejlain:
You continue to impress me with your incredibly creative designs. I feel bad, because I'm not really into the cartoony look for my logo. I just don't think they don't have the edge to hold up in a small recognizable black-and-white logo.

geiger:
Great simple design. But not very memorable. Could we add some kind of graphic to seal up the design?

Victoria:
I like the flourish, but the wording just isn't hip enough for me. I really like words that have little spacing between the letters.

ejlain:
Same comments as before. Incredible creativity, but all the designs lack brandability -- something that is very important to me.

Keep the designs coming, I really want to pick a winner tomorrow!

Ben

Hi Ben,
Here's another round.
I've cleaned up the lines -- "precision-like". ;)
Also, I've shown how it may reproduce in B&W.
Please advise,
Thanks

Good looking! Feedback:

Victoria:
The text still isn't kicking my arse. Try another typeface. Or use a different one for labs. I think they'd work better on different lines.

LuckySeven:
Creative but not brandable. I like to think of it this way -- would I be willing to tattoo it on my shoulder? I think the concept is solid, but needs to be refined. Better use of typeface, tighten up the head of the fox.

cre8or:
I think for these designs to hit the level of brandable, the lines will have to be bolder. I'm not sure if the background box works, I think it's just slightly off or shouldn't be there at all. The text is good, but the bullets between the labs doesn't work. Smaller typeface (like horizontally squish it) might work better.

I'm trying to steer away from the "fox" look (ears, outline, etc) because in the end it'll hold you back. Companies often want to become the brand-name, and they will most easily accomplish this if they turn their name into an entity of its own. For instance, when you hear "Microsoft" you don't think "micro = small, soft = software". It's a dictionary noun just as much as you want "SmallFox" to be yours. Kill the association :)

Hey LuckySeven,

I thought I should mention that you have to be part of the Design Team to enter the contests, since you seem to be investing a good chunk of time into making these logos.

You can find the designer application here (http://www.designoutpost.com/apply.htm). :)

Works beautifully in black and white. Plus, only one color for inexpensive printing.

I'll have to fix that this evening, when I get home from work.

Is the "boxy thing" the line that goes throught he fox's ear?
If so, it's gone.
Also here's 2 new font versions for the word "Labs".
This is vector-based artwork, and can easily have its colours changed, etc.
Do you have any preference for typestyle?
Please advise.

I came to a decision -- ElKootcho is the winner!

Thanks to everyone who entered the contest -- there were some very creative designs. ElKootcho's design ended up being the one that clicked for me, being very brandable and edgy.
