Hi,

Can we use these forums to post a contest where the prize isn't cash?

Regards,

Anna

Yah, just joking around. Probably scared her off :D

Anna, we usually just do cash here, but I'd like to hear what you had in mind and we can discuss it.

This might actually be pretty interesting. I hope this goes somewhere. The tough thing is that products/services have different value to everyone. So what may sound great to me may be worthless to someone else.

Sounds interesting :)

I'm wondering if this might start a trend that might get out of hand though. I'm not trying to spoil the fun, I guess I would rather have the cash in my account to pay out rather than rely on someone to provide the prize.

Plus, what about my cut?

Discuss....

Palmer, perhaps the contest holder could pay you 'X' amount, for them to have the prize as something other than cash? ;)

This could be an interesting concept.

Payment in domain names or products.

There could be problems with things such as shipping/customs fees/people not receiving prizes/no-one entering contests if the prize isnt up to scratch. it would have to be closely monitored.

Haha. I don't scare off easy. I'm just in a different part of the world right now.

Victoria: agreed

We're building an online marketplace (yes, similar to elance) and I was thinking of offering the winner of the logo design a 3 year minimum subscription to our premium listing. In addition, the winner will be featured on the site as a testimonial/case study of how freelance marketplaces can produce topnotch work for prospective buyers.

The online marketplace will be launched in August, and will be promoted through paid listings on Google.

To be clear, I have a design team already but we're loaded with web design projects right now and don't have enogh time to churn out a logo. It takes us quite a bit of time to do one logo design.

Before anyone takes any cheap shots and says I'm using these boards to promote my site, let me say that my target demographic are 1) buyers and 2) qualified, professional providers.

That being said, it would be detrimental to post such obvious ads since all it would do is attract 15-16 year olds. By the way, this is the only board I've posted my request to because I've seen the quality of work some of you produce. Also, I know this board is not an overly advertised board and not populated with just anybody.

So, if this is doable, great. If not, thanks for your time.

Regards,

Anna

Since you would be a direct competitor of this site and Programming Outpost I'd have to pass on the offer. Sorry we couldn't help and best of luck to you :)

Aww, it sounded like a good idea too.

Actually, there are very few people here that are adolescents. Most of the designers here do this for a living. :)

And since this was in the public forum, it would be viewable to the contests holders, who are all qualified buyers. :)

Just for the record ;)

Thanks anyway, Palmer.

And I agree with you naramation. Which is why I posted only to his board.

My comments about the possible "free promotion" were put there as a preventive measure - an attempt to keep everyone on topic (are barter deals acceptable) as opposed to any other topic that might spring forth from the post.

God knows how many times I've seen a simple post degenerate into a flamefest 10 pages long (WebHostingTalk.com anyone?), with only the first few posts sticking to the topic.

Anyway, thanks for the prompt responses. Much appreciated.

Best regards,

Anna
