Hello all. After lurking around for a bit, I think there's a lot of talent around here and I'd love to see some ideas for a logo for a new site, nowaynews.com that I'll be popping up.
There is no design yet. No colors, etc. are set and I do not think I will be incorporating a slogan into the logo.
What is nowaynews.com? It'll be similar to a fake news site. Therefore, the look of the site and way it is displayed will be similar to news-styles out there. Keep this in mind when choosing colors. Purple and green obviously won't be a good combo :) We don't have to stick to white and navy as it's not "serious", but you get the idea.
Another request is that the logo be a bit more horizontal then vertical or square. Besides appearing on the site, I'd like to make various size banners for people to use as links. I've found horizontal to be easiest to work with (along with fitting nicely on a site that will most likely use a top ad banner).
I'd prefer this be done in Illustrator or something similar. If I feel like slapping the thing on a mug/t-shirt for a few friends a normal size Photoshop file just doesn't cut it (do I have to say that here? I'm not sure, forgive my ignorance).
Oh, I'm not even sure how I want this presented in terms of naming. I think I prefer "no way news", but if you'd like caps/no space it or .com it, I'm open to ideas.
This is my first request here, sorry if I've left anything out, please just let me know if I could help with any other information and I'll add it asap.
Thanks!

There's no "hard" deadline, although having this within 2 weeks would be desirable (Guess that would make it June 11th).

FTIGraphix has more of the style I was looking for.
cre8or - Yours is a little too "no"waynews :) The concept of the site will be people visiting doing a double-take, I think yours might be a little too no-no. That reads even dumber then it sounds, but hopefully I'm making enough sense.
RadicalSEED - If we were to go the way of a Flash banner or something that might be cute (accoding to my gf standing here), but I don't think I want to go quite so cartoony.
Thank you all for your efforts so far B)

Here's a little different look. As with all my designs, colors can be adjusted with ease upon request, and all images are scaleable to whatever size

This one plays on the simplicity and conservative style that most newspapers have--but is a bit updated, as most of their websites try to do.

Are there any colors that your starting to lean towards??

Some thoughts:
I'm still leaning towards the logo with the eyes. I just like the simple symbolism. I prefer it without the exclamation points.
coxy - that's a pretty cool design as well. I've been leaning towards thinking of nwn as more of a "print"-like media, but the initializing of it (which I do all the time) in a logo does make it seem very station-y, and I can't say it's a bad idea. The round ones do make me think of subway lines though (I live in NYC). I'm going to stare at it a bit more (and probably ask a friend or two's opinion) :)
As for the colors, I do like the reds and blues. I think the red in FTI's design is ever so slightly too bright, and using something in between that and RadicalSEED's red (in the above post) might appeal to me more.
JulieT - I like the thought, but I don't care for the soft/faded symbol part. I know many papers have that style font, but I've just never been a fan of it on screen.
Thanks again to everyone for your efforts.

The first one on top is a bit more colorful idea. The second one has adjustments on the eyes, and third was is a darker red like you wanted.

Is this going to be similar to The Onion? Their stuff is hilarious!

Sorry about the delay, waiting for my partner to get back to me.
Anyway, it seems we still like FTIGraphix' idea the best. That darker one you made is our preference still.
Commenting on other thoughts: we do like the name to all be on one line, that ruled out most of the others.
ondarox - We liked the two-font one you did, but the guy as an icon isn't really to our liking.
Thanx all!

By "Illustrator or something like that" do you just mean it has to be vector? I use Fireworks which produces all-vector images. Great for resizing, etc. It won't be an EPS, though.

Yes, that is what I mean. As I'm not positive about size, and I know I'll be resizing it myself, vector is what I need. B)

Extended one week as I was a bit slow in response here. My apologies.

My sincerest apologies, this project took a backseat for a couple of weeks (and will for 2 more).
After liking many of these, I can't get away from FTIGraphix's version with the eyes and slightly darker red.
The third in:

If you could send me that in vector format (Illustrator if you used it) along with the font, that'd be great.
So - congrats, and thank you to everyone, and thank you for your patience as well.
