Dear All, (Admin code added by Palmer - 996043R)
Here is another entry for a template design!
Contest: ACAP( http://www.acap-usa.org/ ) templates.
Background:
ACAP is an association of Chinese American professionals, with a wide variety of expertise including engineering, science, health care, business, humanity, and arts and culture. Founded in 1978, and currently with a total membership of approximately 300, the ACAP recruits its members from but not limited to these five states: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
As a non-profit organization, the ACAP strives to foster the professional development and fellowship among its members, to facilitate the development of leadership skills of Chinese Americans professionals, and to address various issues that Chinese American professionals face at work place.
More introductions can be found in the above link.
Prize: USD$190.91
Deadline: Friday June 27th, 8pm Central Standard Time.
Output: Require HTML version of templates, plus unflattened graphics with fonts used so that they can be easily modified later.
Desired Style: The site needs to be professional as it is for the people working in different fields most with their careers well established. It also needs to be inviting and nice looking.
Here is the color theme (blue) that we would like to have for the site:
http://www.acap-usa.org/diversity/2002/2002Brchr.pdf
Site Logo: Image contains variation of the text ACAP with some highlight color.
Site Tagline: Association of Chinese American Professionals (may change later, so please supply editable font used).
Templates: There should be two integrated templates to deliver. The first one, of course, is the main home page template with the capability of easily adding other pages. The second one, we need another template specially for the Diversity Summit ( http://www.acap-usa.org/diversity/index.htm ). A good reference for the Diversity Summit template is this PDF file: http://www.acap-usa.org/diversity/2002/2002Brchr.pdf
The Diversity Summit is the ongoing focus and a key selling point of the ACAP so we would like to emphasize that in the home page as well.
Navigation: Preserver the current menu items. We need some very good looking menu effect here and we are open on navigation style.
Target Audience:
Chinese American professionals as well as American business professionals and firms for some of the joint effort projects and their sponsorship.
Graphics: Feel free to add some graphics as needed, in relation to professional development, technical expertise, people, integrity, fellowship, etc.
Upon completion I would take full ownership/rights of the winning graphic/site template and it or parts of it would not be reproduced for another site template. I reserve the right to use, re-sell and modify the template at my discretion indefinately.
Thank you for your help on the project and look forward to working with you.
Just to let you know Pengrus, I haven't forgotten you. I'm working on a 'lil sumthin' for ya!

I should be able to come up with something within a couple days
Okay, thanks for the wait. Here is my entry:

The Diversity Summit page will pretty much be the same, except that the header will be a little larger and be filled with all the sponsor logos. Other than that, nothing else will really change. :)

The image at the left could rotate easily (different image for each page or different image upon site reload) using PHP, as well as the navigation, updates and the add-on panel at the bottom) being an include in PHP.
This site would load quite quickly, since there are not a ton of graphics involved in the design.
Designed for optimal viewing on 800 X 600.

Thanks Lang! Good work! The overall design is very effective. Currently I would like two things to be changed:
1. The logo of "ACAP". Currently it looks too simple. Please play with it to see if you can come up some variations of it and maybe add some line or border etc to make it look like a real logo.
2. The picture on the top right isn't ideal. Please try something else.
I am not sure if the font color for the menu should be white or not. Maybe give it a try.
Thanks!

Shawn, another creative design! Also I like the idea of using php to easily update pictures and events, even though I am not fully understanding how it works. You may want to explain it a little bit. Is there one file that I can edit to control all of those things?
I liked the last one in which you used some dark bar/border around the template. But please replace the Black with some other dark color since black sometimes has bad connotation in Chinese culture.
Also they might want a little bigger fonts for both menu and body as it is not easy to read for people who do not have good eyesight.
Thank you!

Palmer,
Very good use of color, simple and effective. If you could make the navigation menu a little more better looking, that'll be great!
Thank you!

TO ALL
All of you submitted one template. I would appreciate if you could also give it a thought on the Diversity Summit template which should be a little different than the main template as the summit is one of the emphasis. Part of the $190 prize is for this effort.
Thanks!

I am not really sure what it is you are looking for with the second template you mention. Is this a whole other template; if so do you want a totally different look? What kind of content does this page contain...etc.

Per your request, I enhanced the navigation. Those are not buttons, they would actually be background images. A live example can be seen here. (http://www.bestautojobs.com/index2.php) The text of the link will be html so you can change/add links as the site changes. I also made a template for the Diversity Summit. The majority of the text is html in both templates for easy editing.

Here is the border with the darker blue/green.
If you could address my question(s) about the diversity template I can then create a design with what you actually require for that page.
With all the sponsors you have listed I think it might be best to maybe have like 3-4(max) blocks designate for ad space and have them rotate on each visit or something. Having that many items on your page is taking up a lot of real estate and in all honesty just looks plain bad.
Just a thought.

Shawn,
To answer your question, the Diversity Summit template needs NOT be totally different. A good example is Palmer's. The content and the current diversity summitt page can be found in my original requirement post. I agree with your idea on the number of ads to place on one page - rotating sounds like a better idea.
TO ALL:
I'll be able to give you more feedback once I get a hold of the President of ACAP. I may extend the deadline by one week if needed...
Thanks for your revised work!

I have to extend the deadline to June 27 at 8pm CST since I need to get more feedback from ACAP board members.
Thanks for your patience and new entries are welcomed!!

Hello, I figured since I'm from an Asian descent, this project coerced me into creating a template. :P
Please review my template, and let me know of any suggestions you may have.
Thank you. :)

I've just met with the Prez of ACAP, and here are some suggestions:
To xteriormotive:
1. On Main page,
please move the dot from mainland China to Taiwan on the globe map, and the other dot to Houston.
Add the logo (shown on Diversity Summit page) to Main page.
Replace the Proposals & Sponsor Forms link under the People's picture with the time of summit: July 18th, 2003. And make a little style change to the Diversity Summit link and its time under people's picture so that it stands out more.
2. On Diversity Summit page
The people's picture is too big, please replace it with the Globe picture that is shown on main page. Also remove the Proposals and Sponsorship Forms links under the picture.
Add the following
2002 Diversity Summit (link)
Diversity Summit/Career Fair
Harnessing the Power of Diversity = Success
above 2002 Diversity Summit Final Program, align with "2003 Diversity Summit" link. Add "2001 Diversity Summit" link below "2002 Diversity Summit Evaluations", align with "2003 Diversity Summit" link.
Add
2003 Diversity Summit Registration
2003 Diversity Summit Program
above 2003 Diversity Summit Proposal
Add a line or something else to make the 2003 Diversity Summit section standout / separate from 2002 and 2001 Summits.
Add 8 sponsors' logos at each rotation.
Change the menu Youth Division to "Divisions" and add the mouse over drop down menus that contains different divisions.
To Brian
Please add the Diversity Summit block on the Main page.
Why not all initial letter of ACAP are capital?
If we later add on new menus, is it easy to edit and still go around the Globe line? Is the menu a picture file?
To Palmer
Please add a new logo before ACAP header.
Changes the News Block to the following:
"News" to "Upcoming Event"
Replace Estate Planning information with 2003 Diversity Summit information:
2003 Diversity Summit
Diversity Leadership and the Bottom Line -
A Clear Connection
Friday, July 18, 2003
9 am - 4:30pm
Adam's Mark Hotel, Houston
To Lang
The logo and ACAP text variation are good attempts. But too many colors are used in them and they don't look very professional. Please fine tune the logo, and reduce the number of colors used.
On Diversity Summit page, reduce the number of Sponsor logos to 8, and present them on a rotational basis on each click.
To ALL
Add the mouse over drop down function to the menu link, for example, if I move cursor on Divisions, then it'll present a drop down submenus including Youth Division, Support Division, Planning Division, etc.
Thanks for your great work!

Hi,
Ok, I sliced my template and made the other page template. They both can be viewed at:
http://brianstudio2.netfirms.com/contests/...st/template.htm (http://brianstudio2.netfirms.com/contests/acap_template_contest/template.htm)
and
http://brianstudio2.netfirms.com/contests/...test/summit.htm (http://brianstudio2.netfirms.com/contests/acap_template_contest/summit.htm)
. Templates SPECS
The site is controled with CSS Style sheet. It just add some style to the website ( text colors/mouse overs colors/ scroll bar colors, etc... ). if you want to change the colors of the whole website, it's as easy as updating a small "style sheet" file on notepad. I didnt add the scroll bar colors. normally, it's blue and white...
Left bar
On the left bar, it's really easy to add/remove content/parts. You just need to add one image ( the content title {like Latest News or Newsletters} ).
navigation bar
If you want to remove/add a link on the main nav bar, it's as easy as "Writing" the word "Link" and deleting the word "link" because i already prepared the tables to add more links.
The Date
The date normally updates everyday by using JavaScript ( not actually used on the actual template... )
2003 Diversity Summit
I tried as you asked, to "emphasize" the Summit by putting it on the top page just near the nav bar ( which the visitor looks at first on a website... )

Brian,
Thanks for the swift reply. I like the navigation bar go around the globe better. Other than that, everything looks good.

Hello, everyone!
I am announcing the winner, and that is xteriormotive's design. I wish we had more time on this to get ideas across. But this project is very time sensitive.
The winner, xteriormotive, is contingent upon having all the deliverables ready to use. On the changes that I suggested for xteriormotive, point 1 is critical: the map dot change and the logo on main page. I can try to make some other changes, and xteriormotive should help us out on the rest when he gets back from vacation on July 7th.
If we cannot get the htlm package from xteriormotive ready for use by Sunday noon, I will pick another winner.
Many thanks for your great work and I appreciate all your help.....
Palmer

He just sent me an email that he is leaving Sunday for Hawaii. I just told him he won on the condition that it will be completed by tomorrow. I'm sure he'll let you know if he can get it done by then.

I have to change the winner from xteriormotive to Palmer since I was not able to get the package on agreed the time. Sorry xteriormotive, I was not able to get your midnight email notification to get on MSN, and sorry that I should've given you "clearer" or "more clear" instructions on those two minor changes that I posted twice on this thread. I appreciate your efforts.
Palmer, it is a pleasure working with you and thanks for taking the extra steps in helping us complete the design work. I really appreciate it. I may have another template design coming up.
Best regards,
Sean
