Hello Again! (Admin code added by Palmer - 647934W)
After receiving a great logo from ElKootcho, I have decided to come back for 2nds.
I want to have a flyer ( up to 11"x 17" ) designed for MittenTopRentals.com. I'm open to ideas and hope that your creativity will yield some nice stuff. The flyers should attract 18-35 y.o. renters, but they also need to generate a little interest in home owners who want to rent their homes out. Here's what I require:
Style:
The upper 2/3rds of the flyer should be art and the bottom 1/3rd should be left white for text and my logo.
My initial idea would be to have a little dude (me!) holding a sign that says "For Rent by Owner"(like the kind you get in hardware stores). When I was in New York City I picked up a cool business card advertising a rave that had a little guy on it and I loved it. I'll try to get it scanned to give you an idea.... basically the guy looks almost "claylike" rather than cartoon like -almost like you could touch him.. he's a little 3-D. A little like "Buddy-Lee" but more professional.. shortsleeve shirt with tie and dark eyeglasses. (Ahh.. how cute.)
If you decide to take a different direction, I'm okay with that... don't feel like you have to keep with the conservative feel of the logo- you are the designers!! I wanted to keep the logo rather professional but I would like to have the flyers a little on the trippy or abnormal side to get second looks.
Text:
(this will be in the bottom 3rd of the page...)

Whether you are looking to rent an apartment or a house between Traverse City and Mackinac City, you can be sure to find it here: MittenTopRentals.com. With local rentals listed by owner, complete with property descriptions and plenty of photos, it’s easy to understand why MittenTopRentals.com is the best way to find your next neighborhood property rental in Northwest Michigan.

Eps format would be great. I don't think I can get away without going full color. The logo is 3 color.
Note that the text above may change a bit, but that's pretty close.
Deadline: 3 1/2 weeks from today. I may end the contest earlier if needed.
Good luck!

Have you already chosen a printer for this project? Are you going full-bleed or is a margin needed (for price reasons!)?

ElKootcho-
Good question. My answer to the first question is nope I haven't confirmed anything with a print shop yet... and to answer the second I would have to say that if anyone chooses to go with my idea that I pitched then it will probably be a white poster with the guy sort of in the middle standing about 10" tall (for the 11 X 17 poster) so there would be margins I suppose. I think the text should be indented a bit regardless of full bleed or not...
If you decide that a poster with a full bleed looks better for your design I would say go ahead. I'm not concerned with price on this one. Whatever design stands out the best will win.

Hi,
Just wanted to add another thing. If the "poster" could be designed to work down to 8.5" (tall) X 5.5" (wide) it would be helpful. I assume if it's an .eps file I could do this without much trouble.
-Brandon
I'm not worried that there aren't any entries yet. I will have the pic. of the little dude I was talking about posted on this site as soon as I get it back from my friend who is scanning it. That might help give you a little direction if you choose to work with my idea... I don't think I will get the image till Wednesday though. :(

Palmer...
Can I email you the .jpg of my little dude example that I alluded to in my first post? I guess it's too big or something.. I zipped it and it just won't go...
(probably an operator error).. :lol2:

Here are two files, the first one is a jpg and the second on is on the next post, it's a Microsoft Word document of a flyer with the guy on it...

11 days to go!

Hi there,
Here is my shot.
The guy in the pic can not be enlarged any further as he is not in vector format. However I will be able to make another design for the smaller poster you are after. I have printed him out on my epson stylus photo 1290 and he looks quite good at this size. He is about the size of an A4 page.
Just realised the exporter grabbed more than the page. The top of the poster should actually finish just above his head.

Demex,
Nice post. I have some ideas, but I won't bother you with any changes at this point.... right now I'll be looking at designs for their potential since this poster is probably a little more difficult to revise than a logo. Right now your design is very good. Thank you for entering Demex!

8 days to go!!

Dear Designers,
Well, we have about 5 days left for additional entries. Would anyone else like to enter this one? I'm open to different ideas.... ;)
Have fun...
-Brandon
P.S.- The first printing will be 8.5"(tall) X 5.5"(wide)....

Thanks ElKootcho... I hope you can find some time. I hope to wrap this thing up on the 28th. In earlier posts I messed up the math with the deadline. So now we have 5 days... all designs should be in by Saturday.
How about those pet care logo contests...!!? Wow. I'm waiting for someone with an "evil petting zoo." (Austin Powers...)
As a side note - I've been totally sick - brought on by the lack of proper rest.
:rip:
Now I'm recovering, but I'm left with this horrible throat scratchiness and a headache. I'm going to listen to a little Radiohead to ease the pain.

Hello all,
If you would like to enter this contest it's totally fine with me if you want to design the upper 2/3rds of the page and forget about the lower third (the text and logo). I'm most concerned about the top at this point...
Thanks!!!!

I'm doing my best to get something going with this one Brandon.
I'm hoping they come thru for you...
Hi there...
I'm not sure if this is "cartoony" enough for you, but I figured I'd toss it in the ring anyway. The design is entirely in vector, so it can be resized for all your needs.
Thanks for your consideration.

Thank you Rabbitdog for your design. I'm not too stuck on any specific ideas for the poster so this is just fine.... from what I can tell from your submission and Zoe's, you are both catching what I'm trying to convey in the poster. Very fine work. ;)
-Brandon
(let's end this thing at about 2 p.m. EST - sound okay?)
I dont have the entire copy in yet, as I'm sure you'd want to add a phone number somewhere, just tryin to beat the deadline for now
Here are some other dudes

I'll wait for any other submissions from you ElKootcho or Ondarox...
On-da-rox (I finally understand your name)... I like the nerdy guy better.....
Using a woman is fine too....
Try to get anything you are working on in sometime this afternoon. Thank you again Demex, Rabbitdog, ElKootcho, and Ondarox for working on this project.

Upscale/reputable. Someplace I'd feel safe renting from. House images are easily replaced if they don't fit the area you represent.

Thank you for keeping this very interesting up to the last day..... this is going to be tough.
I just got home so I will post the winner this afternoon. Thank you Demex, Rabbitdog, Ondarox, and ElKootcho for coming up with some great stuff! (and Palmer for creating some interest... I had nothing to do with that -honest! :o )

I chose 2 Winners:
ElKootcho = $85
Ondarox = $85 (for the poster with the woman)
Thank you everyone for entering and working so hard for this contest. Ultimately the last two designs "fit" the best. Oh yeah, there will be a couple of final touches that need to be taken care of but nothing too in depth.
-Brandon
(ElKootcho and Ondarox - I'm sorry I didn't ask if it would be okay to choose 2 winners, but since the payout is the same I didn't think you two would mind sharing the glory. :D )
