View Full Version : [Project Complete]Two Animated Banner Ads – Auto Accessories - $170 - Deadline March
(Admin code added by Michael - 31281200,31389591,31394163)
450x60 animated banner showcasing products we offer. Deadline 3/30/05 5pm PST. File size limit of 50K.
We operate vehicle specific accessory stores for late model vehicles. Normally a banner might be focused on one particular type of vehicle, like Corvette.
This particular banner is for an online forum dedicated to the LS1 engine which can be found in the Corvette, GTO, Firebird and Camaro so it can’t be specific to the type of vehicle but rather the parts that we offer for that engine.
Here are links to pictures of some of the products that could be focused on.

Some things that set us apart from our competition are
Low Price Guarantee
Same Day Shipping
Large Selection of In Stock Items
Excellent Customer Support
Of course our logo is an important element as well. Here is a good copy to work with.

We would like to coordinate all of our banner ads to have the same look and feel to them so designers should keep this in mind. The winner will most likely be redoing all of our banner ads. Our next project will be for a 468x60 flash animation banner with the same look and feel targeting Dodge Magnum owners.

Here is another similar, but much more conservative on file size :)

Very nice. I like bits of both. Here are my pros and cons of each.
1st ad pros. I like the general layout and the car being included. I like the click here icon. I like the four lines of text and how they are lined up. The rolling wheel is cool.
1st ad cons. I don't care for the LS1 Engine Parts text. Let's lose it. There are a couple of reasons to not include it, I won't bore you with those details unless you're really interested in which case, just let me know and I'll list the 3 main reasons.
I'd rather somehow incorporate more product pics into the ad than to have that text.
2nd ad pros. Same as 1st ad pros.
2nd ad cons. Car is too small, I like the size in the 1st ad. I don't care for the Go there now button. LS1 Engine parts text.
I'm not sold on the black and white background but I don't hate it. I would like to see something similar to the brushed aluminum look we have in the upper left corner of our stores that the logo is overlayed on.
I'm probably asking for 200K of content to be slammed into 50k of space but just do the best you can based on what I've listed above.

Mike, if you have your logo in an .eps or .psd format I would be glad to change the background behind that too. :)
I'll check back tomorrow morning ( PST)
Looking good Brian. I'll wait to see what you do with the logo. Take your pick.

Only thing I'm thinking is that the brushed metal might look better with black text.

It's not animated yet because I wanted to see if you like the concept before I go ahead with the animation.
Looks good. I like the car you chose. Worried about the text getting lost. I'd like to see what you have in mind for the rest of it.

I like what I see from both of you. Here is what I'd like to do (I've notified an administrator and am awaiting his approval for this).
I'd like to double the bid amount from $85 to $170 and have the Dodge Magnum flash banner included in the package. This will give me a better idea of how coordinated the campaign will look. Here are the guidelines for the Dodge Magnum banner.
468x60 50KB max. The products to feature can be any of the following.
http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=LX5002&Product_Count=6&Category_Code=DMEXH
http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=LX3003&Product_Count=3&Category_Code=DMNEW
http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=LX4001&Product_Count=7&Category_Code=DMNEW
http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=DM3004&Product_Count=10&Category_Code=DMNEW
KiT10, your latest version looks good. One requirement I have for any banner is that any car that is shown must be shown in a color that the car is available in from the factory (unless you are using one of our Project Vehicles). You lucked out on the Orange Corvette because there is a Daytona Sunset Orange available for the new Corvette (and your orange is a closer match than that of the Chevrolet web site).
I'd also like the text animation slowed from 1.5 seconds to 2 seconds and slowed to 5 seconds after the Low Price Guarantee frame. Not a requirement as I can do this if needed if I choose your design.
It looks like you may have lost some of the texture of the brushed steel look when you decreased the opacity (I’m speculating here). I like the effect but wonder if you can retain some of the texture that was lost.
Brian, I am still waiting to see your latest.

Sorry Mike, I am not a flash designer.I will have to pull out of the comp if those are the new requirements of the contest :(
If a .gif format is acceptable I will continue.
Please advise :)

I can confirm that the project funds are now $170 as there are two banners required.

I won't say that Flash is a requirement, just another option for this particular banner (the Dodge Magnum banner) and may be an option for other banners down the road. My priority is great looking banner ads and if a gif entry ends up looking better than a flash entry, the gif will get the nod.
Brian, I like the second one best, tucking the car behind the logo is a nice touch. I don't care for the 3rd with the black background but thank you for submitting it. (edit) Forgot to mention, our logo looks a little dark in your last three banners. It could be lightened up a bit.
Adrian, I look forward to your entry.
As you may have noticed, this is my first time using Design Outpost and I am very pleased with the results so far. It will be tough choosing a winner tomorrow. But even if you're not chosen, keep your eyes peeled for more projects from us, we have all kinds of little projects waiting to get done and I think I just found the place to get the results I'm looking for. :)

Brian, nice job on the Magnum ad. Logo is still dark but we won't worry about it rignt now.
Adrian, I'm not feeling it with the two exhausts side by side. What you did with the border looks good though.
Cristina, the color of the car in the previous version was perfect.
I'm still waiting to see Magnum ads from Cristina and Adrian.

What text you want to show on 2nd banner?
Adrian
Same text since it is the same campaign. You might want to mention Dodge Magnum specifically somewhere since this web site is a general Dodge site and we only off Dodge Magnum parts.

Here's my Magnum banner :D
I’d like to name two winners. We will make sure both of you are paid the $170. We plan to rotate banner campaigns on the various sites we advertise on at some time anyway so this is a good opportunity to have two separate style campaigns.
Anne, I’ve seen your work and was very excited when I saw you had contributed. Unfortunately it just isn’t the look we were after. I appreciate the time you put into it and hope it does not stop you from contributing to our next project. Thank you for your effort.
Adrian, your last entry looked great. It was a tough choice between yours and Cristina’s but the nod went to Cristina. Thank you for your time and effort as well. I’ll look forward to an entry from you on our next project.
Cristina, congratulations, your entries have been chosen (posts 34 and 39). Your banner for the LS1 is almost perfect. I couldn’t take my eye off what you’d done with the car picture. The reflection in the mirror was a nice, subtle touch too. Your use of color and the elegance of your design are stunning. My only worry is that it is a little too elegant for our clientele but I’m going to run with it and we’ll see what happens. The only change I will ask you to make on the first banner (post 34) is to add the text New Products Added Weekly in the text rotation. I will also ask you to make the same text addition to the Magnum ad. In addition, I would like to use a different car picture on the Magnum ad and position the product picture a little differently (rotate clockwise to get more of the filter into the picture). Here is a link to a general idea of how I’d like the car to look (picture isn’t cleaned up and I’ll rely on you to position it just right). But for all of the banners I’ll ask you to do, I’d like to have that same type of look you had on the first banner.
http://www.pfyc.com/misc/magnumbanner.jpg
Here is a link to the picture I used as a source for that example.
http://www.pfyc.com/misc/redmagnum.jpg
Work your magic on the colors, shading, etc.
Brian, congratulations, your animations are great. Your banners have been chosen as well (posts 17 and 22). I liked the creativity of the animations shown on both. However our logo is much too dark for some reason. It must be lightened up on both ads. I am also worried about how dark the ads look. I would like you to eliminate the brushed metal look on the top half of the left side of the ads so that section at the top is white all the way over to the car. To the left of the car, go with a color on the bottom half and white on the top like the left side. See the header at http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PFYC&Category_Code=GT for an example of what I’m talking about. Notice how our logo protrudes above the header and how the brushed metal look morphs into color once right of the car picture. Is there some way you can do that on both ads using a blue on the LS1 ad and black on the Magnum ad to the right of the cars? I’ll let you play with it and see what you can come up with. My main objective is to lighten things up a bit as they just seem a little too dark and dreary.
I’d also like to change the text on the Magnum ad we’ve chosen (post 22). Instead of just Magnum, make it two lines, Magnum Accessories.
I will soon contact each of you to quote us on making more banners with similar looks to each for other ads that we have running.

Adrian, keep that code around. I'm going to look into using the co-op funds we have available from one of our vendors. If they approve banner advertising, will have you change a couple of minor things in the ads and we'll use them and I'll pay you for them. :)
One question to Brian and Cristina. Will I be getting the psd files with all of the elements as separate layers?

Mike, if you need the .psd(s) they can be supplied :) No Worries.
How are the revisions I did?
I'll check in a few times on Sat to see the status of this project.
*Note to future contest holders: It is always best to state what you need in your brief at the start of each contest so the designers know what you are expecting to receive upon completion.
Brian, I was hoping to have a more definitive line across the middle like we have on our web site (not necessarily a line but more definative where it goes from white at top to brushed and colored at bottom). Other than that, they are perfect. Once that is done and the .psd's are delivered, we can consider this case closed.
I already have Cristina's files.
Adrian, I am going out of town on business today for a week but I will contact you once I find out about the co-op advertising I want to do that your banners will work well for.
Thanks to everyone for your contributions.
