(Admin code added by Palmer - ES5125705)

Our company (Primal Blue Software, Inc.) has been doing business for more then 4 years and we are looking to update our corporate identity. With that said, the first part of this process will be a logo redesign.

I feel our current company image is tied too much into "web design" and doesn't convey a "software" look/feel.

Note: the new logo will be used as the center piece of the new corporate identity including Website redesign, business cards, letterhead, envelopes, and stationary.

Currently company website: primalblue.com

What our company does: - Primal Blue develops software for small and medium size businesses. Our software products are utilized in the Manufacturing, Aerospace, and Service industries.

Our company culture: - Our company has a relaxed environment in Southern California. We want the logo to convey a relaxed/friendly message while showing the company's strong side in delivering solid applications and understanding business logic.

Logo Style: - High Tech. (although one of our team members mentioned possibly incorporating an elephant silhouette, not exactly sold on that idea, but if done right it could look good).

The logo should not include our tag line, but it should include our company name (either Primal Blue or Primal Blue Software).

I'll be happy to answer any questions or provide more information.

EDIT: Forgot to include the deadline. I'd like to have this wrapped up by 4/15

Thank you for the submission, but I don't think this gives the company a professional look. We want to stay away from a "super hero" look. We don't want any type of human character in the logo. An animal would be streching it, but could be possible if done right (minimal details and silhouette).

We are looking for more of a "high tech" look.

Okay, going the "primal" cat route...

Great guys. I'm meeting with the team in a few hours. I'll post some feedback this evening following the meeting.

Thank you for the work, I’ve listed our feedback below.

For everyone

1) We prefer to use darker blues (#336699 and #003366). If blue becomes too overbearing a third color may not be a bad idea to break it up. I don’t want the logo to get lost or be too plain.

2) Fonts – We like a smooth clean fonts such as: TW Cen MT and Futura Lt BT. We aren’t restricted to only those fonts, but like the smoothness of them. Of course you can modify a font anyway you think looks good.

Bill – The primal cat route just isn’t doing it for me and I’m not big on how the company name is laid out. We need a more corporate high tech look. One example logo we like is the Blue Martini logo (bluemartini.com)

Sarah – You have some good ideas there, out of the 3 we like #2 the best, followed by #3. With that said I still don’t think this is the exact direction. I know with a name like “Primal Blue” there isn’t any specific object or symbol related to it so it makes things a bit difficult.

Skyvee – The elephant look isn’t too bad. Out of all the layouts you’ve put together we like the black layout at the bottom right the best. We don’t like how the elephant is split in 4. Can you enhance the black layout a bit and see where that goes? How can we tie this into software a bit more?

It’s obvious you all are very talented, I’m excited to see what’s next. Please let me know if I can go into more detail on anything or answer any questions.

To anyone else who hasn’t submitted, we are still not sold on a specific design, we’d love to see what you have to offer.

Thank you

Thanks for those suggestions!

Do you have any suggestions of imagery you'd like us to investigate?

I'll work on something else today :)

I know I mentioned a silhouette, but maybe having the elephant a bit more detailed like on rhinointernet.com. Or even simply adding some shading/light to show it as an object / 3d effect. I think an additional color in your logo schemes would look good as well.

From taking a quick browse around the boards, I like how the symbol in http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=136002&postcount=3 inspires thought and has some meaning tied into it.

One more thing I thought I’d mentioned. I do like how ComponentArt handles their text/logo (componentart.com). Clean text and a touch of color to bring it out.

I think we've seen a good amount on the elephants. Of all of them we like the version Sarah has put together (first elephant logo).

But as mentioned initially, the elephant is just an idea from one of our team members. Can anyone show us other alternatives?

Sarah – on that first elephant logo, in your opinion do you think there is room to fit “Software” in small letters under “primalblue”? Also the main thing that concerns me about this logo is the height. Thinking forward, if we go with this choice I can see it being difficult with some layouts. Can you think of a version that isn’t too tall?

Looking forward to some unique concepts.

Sarah - We like both of your designs. Can you see what the elephant with the trunk in the air at a normal stance (trunk pointed down / at rest). Also can you streach out the words "software" a bit more (the font doens't look right)

Fran - We don't like the "PB". That is one thing we are trying to get away from the current logo. Concept "C" is too blocky. We prefer a more rounded and smooth look.

Gilles - We really like the colors and lettering. The icon on the left we aren't sure about.

Fabian - We aren't much into the icon. coloring is nice how it brings out the "blue" Just the icon doesn't do anything for us. We are more into a horizontal layout then a vertical.

Thank you all for the work you've submitted. There are a lot of good designs listed above. After looking though all of them we've decided we'd like to go with the first logo listed below from Sarah.

We do have a few small change requests.

1) The "e" in blue is drawing too much focus/attention because of the outline. is there anyway to reduce that or move the elephant out to the right a bit more to lower the focus on that one character.

2) Change "Software" from upper case to lower case

Fantastic! Thanks for choosing my design :)

Here is a revision, with the figure moved to the right slightly, to detract from the "e"

The software is also now lower case. I'm happy to make any more adjustments you require :)

Sarah,

Perfect. Thanks for the quick revision. I think we can consider this project closed as soon as we get the files.

What font (font face, size, colors) did you use for the print? What are the standard file formats you send? If you have it available can we at least get a PSD.

Thanks

Sarah

I will send you 2 FH11 vector files - 2 colour and black and white, psd's (I have version CS, if you require a different version psd just let me know), editable .eps files, as well as .gif and .jpg files.
Is all that ok?
Do you require any other filetypes? I can provide pretty much any type you need.

I will include a readme of the font I used and all the colours included in the .zip file. (assuming a .zip file is ok for transfer?)

I'll send that all to you this evening when I get home :)

Thanks again!
