Itek Microsurgical, Inc. - We are a small medical service company. We repair and sharpen precision surgical instruments and provide custom fabrication services. My company needs a striking logo for use in promotional literature, web site and on delivery trucks.
I am looking for a logo that incorporates our company name and a graphic that can be shrunk to appx 3mm x 5mm and converted to black and white for use in branding very small instruments. The graphic should be easily recognizable in this small format
Currently we use a stock “wide latin” font for “Itek” and a smaller “goudy stout” font for “Microsurgical, Inc.” We use the capital “I” as our small black and white brand. Our clients are physicians, nurses and purchasing agents; we need something that is more creative and projects more professionalism than what I am able to produce with Corel.
Thank You, Terry Hardman

Is it the whole logo or just the graphic to be shrunk to 3mm x 5 mm?

Just the graphic will be shrunk. Specifically we will be generating a stencil from the graphic and using an acid etching process to place a mark or brand on surgical instruments. Because of size limitations and resolution of the acid etching process we need something that will be easily identifiable in black on a stainless steel background

size limitations will not allow us to use our whole name and even "Itek" is very hard to read when reduced and etched. The reflective quality of stainless makes fine or very thin detail hard to make out and heavy thick black lines sometimes bleed together. From a technical standpoint the ideal graphic would be equally balanced with black and white (Stainless steel background).
here's a quick idea I had-
The letterforms I an T are combined to suggest a medical cross, with a human touch...de

Raja, you are on the right track but I think every concievable variation of a red cross is already copywrited. Others above are on the right track #3 is close. I guess I am hoping for something with more flair.

The reducable graphic is the most important design element that I am looking for. I have attached our current name logo and would like to see some post with just a graphic added to our current name usage or some variation of what we are currently using with a reducable graphic added. Thanks
How about this, based on the current I.

Adrian, There is something that catches my eye with post 18 but something about it is not quite right. Can you flip the image and possibly do a couple of variations. This graphic is driving me crazy, I know somebody out there has it and when I see it I'll know. -Terry

I don't think that I have adequetly descibed what I am looking for. To me most of the post seem bland (no offence, I just think that I haven't done a good job of describing what I am looking for). When I view some of your portfolios, I see art and imagination that is what I am looking for. I am concentrating on the graphic descibed in earlier post, it doesn't have to be an "i" or anything to do with a letter, just some kind of cool, unique symbol that people will look at and associate with my company because they see it beside the name on invoices and promo lit. It would be great if it were somehow would tie in with surgical instruments or our name but it doesn't have to as long as it is striking and interesting to look at, art, imagination...

Hi Terry,
Here are few variations on #18
There is an "I", "T", "E", "K" in the icon :). With the icon fliped that isn't so visible.
Let me know if you want to see other changes.
Cheers,
Adrian

At the risk of being "bland", I had design domething simple for you before you posted your message. After thinking about it, I hate it when a design goes to waste. ;)

Here are some more ideas...
Bill, is there a way to put the siluette of a pair of scissors in with the clamp? Maybe laying across some how. The scissors siluette would be almost the same as the clamp, it just would not have the cross member connecting the two rings and the two rings would lay against one another. I really like your post but want to add something more to it to make it more distinct from one of my competitors logo - www.mobileinstrument.com

with clamp...
Bill, your latest post are excellent, The scissors need to be shaped more like surgical scissors though. Surgical scissors have straight parallel shanks, here is a link to see what I mean. www.robbinsinstruments.com/scissors/mayo.html
I may have been confused with the scissors and the clamp... sorry...

Wow, this was an extremely hard decision, there were several good designs. I have chosen to go with Tylers design in message #30. Thanks to all who submitted. -Terry
