Hello all!!

I have a client who needs a site up by next Friday (actually he needs 2!). So I am looking to you all for some help.

Company Name: Thermo Fan
Profile: Thermo Fan created a product that allows semi trucks to use heating/cooling/refrigeration without the truck idling constantly. This saves alot of money in fuel costs.

Delivables: 1 Homepage design in PSD and also coded in HTML/CSS format.
Due date: Winning design will be picked by 5:00 pm on Tuesday April 19th.

Current website: www.thermofan.com

Requirements: This site needs to be a professional looking site. The client has a few very specific requests. Take a look at www.cisco.com. He basically wants his site to follow this layout.

1. Logo in upper left
2. Main menu down the left side
3. Additional links along top right, horizontally
4. News section in main column
5. Main image in center column
6. MINIMAL SCROLLING - he has made it clear that he hates scrolling
7. Under the main image, I was thinking of 2 columns, "Quick Links" and "Documents"
8. Site needs to be easily replicated for another child company, so the colors and images need to be easily swapped.

Links in the left column menu will be:

Products
Savings Calculator
Buy It Now
Why Thermo Fan?
About Us
Links & Events

Links in the upper right will be:

Home
Contact Us
Resources
Site Map

So, we need to mimic Cisco's site while establishing our own identity.

I am attaching the logo and main image to use on the site.

Any questions feel free to ask!! Please let me know if you will be submitting a design.

Thanks!

Here is the image of the truck in PSD

I would like to enter,
but the main image is pretty poor design. And if you size it down to main cisco image, you will see that none of the text is readable.
I consider that except the slogan, none of that content from the ad should stay on the main images, should stay on the other areas of the site. Maybe we should put something more suggestive, like a truck cabine?

George.

Hi George. The main images has to stay. That truck cabin is actually mounted to a trailer and they haul it to shows and conventions. It is a great marketing tool for them. They want that recognizable piece on the homepage.

Now, I do have that in a PSD that will resize much better. I can email it anyone who needs it. I tried to attach it here, but it is too big. I did have it resized to around 380 px wide and you could read all but the smallest text.

Also, all the text being readable is not the main purpose. Although I am sure they would like the big stuff to be readable. We will just have to do with it what we can.

PM me if you would like the PSD.

Hi Aliska. Thanks for the entries.

I like where you are going with this one (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=35635). I just have one change for right now that I would like to see before I show the client.

Can you move the news section to the far right, and then shift the rest to the left? So from left to right would be Menu, Main image with Documents and Quicklinks below it, then the News.

Also, under documents, those will just be links to other documents, so you can make that area have the same links as Quick Links. Take out what you have there now, it is more of a news item.

Thanks!

The psd file is exactly the same like the jpg you have uploaded ;) I am working on something though. In case you have psd layered file with the glow effect as standalone effect would be apreciated to post it.

Thanks.
George.

Hi George. Thanks for entering. That PSD is the layered version. It has a background layer, the image layer, and the outer glow on the image can be turned off or edited. I even downloaded it from that link to make sure and it is layered.

Aliska,

Your last entry has some potential with some changes. Let's got with navy blues rather than the purple color. Also, switch the News and weather. The news has to be on top. And, can you eliminate the 2 smaller images and make the main image bigger to take up that whole space? It is fine if it has more height. The Quick Links and Documents boxes are real important to the client. They are just there more for balance and substance.

Thanks!

Being this is only my third contest, I have a question. How do we handle a situation where I have a winner to announce, but my client wants to add an element from a different designer's entry?

We don't have a problem with this but you will need to discuss and come to some arrangement regarding compensation with the other designer :)

When you have you can deposit the funds from the following page...

Any further questions feel free to email me :)

Ok, I'm cool with that.

So here is what we got. Aliska is the winner with design #18. However, the want to use the images (the area in blue and the 2 images to the right of it, see attached image) from Anne's design # 21.

So Aliska, here is the list of changes...

1. They like the header, but we need to decrease the height of it.
2. Use the logo found on www.thermofan.com. They want the logo that has INC in it and they like the outer white glow. If you can't use that, let me know and I'll make one.
3. Move the News down even with Quick Links and Documents. Then shorten the News to match the height of Quick Links and Documents. They probably only need 2 or 3 news items.
4. In the area above Quick Links, Documents, and News, use the image from Anne's design...see attached. You'll have to get the PSD of that from Anne.
5. Remove the Weather.
6. Add "Employee Login" to menu at top after Resources

So, Anne, how much do you need to use your image? I'll get that deposited right away.

Thanks to everyone who entered and for the cooperation of the winning designers.

Hello
Changes in 2 variations. What do you think?
and it looks better that way :)

Well, without looking too hard I can't tell what the difference between the 2 is. ;)

Here are a few changes:

1. Take the search completely off. We don't need any of it.
2. The blue bar with the menu, can you take the angle of that and just make it straight. Something about that doesn't look right with the image below it. Then the bar and image (with the border around the image) can be flush.
3. For that menu bar, can you try the blue you have and also an orange?
4. Can the logo be cleaned up at all. It doesn't look real crisp. I can make one up if you need me to.

Let's go with those changes and see where we are at then. Almost done!

Then I will send it to the client for review.
