(Admin code added by Palmer - 011371053T)
I need a logo quick for a upscale coffee house/bistro concept- concept is similar to Panera Bread. www.panerabread.com Deadline is 4/23/05.
The name is: Black & Brew
Coffee House & Bistro
I would like the full name included in the logo. The focus should be on "Black & Brew"
The logo should have the following qualities:
1. Upscale
2. Freshness
3. Mix of modern and traditional styling
4. Fun
The concept is targeted at young to middle age professionals. We will serve pastries and coffee drinks similar to Starbucks. Lunch will be served from 11-2p.m. and will consist of sandwiches, soups, salads, and paninis. Thurs thru Sat nights we will have live music (blues, jazz, acoustic), gourmet desserts, and we will serve wine. It will be in a downtown location. Please take all this into account while designing.
As for color, keep it simple-nothing too crazy.
Other than that, be creative and have fun.
Thanks!

Hi Chris,
You said similar to "Panera Bread" ... Do you have an image for us to see what it looks like? Thanks.

I was just mentioning that the concepts are similar.

Hi Chris,
I played with the letters, since i think they will be the integral part of your logo and would help it be easily recognized.
Here is work-in-progess. There will be a logomark that goes with the logotype to further emphasize the effect of the logo as whole.
I would be glad if you provide me with some feedback to nourish the creative process. :P

Designers,
I am taking the first round of logos to the investors for their selection. If you want to make any last minute alterations, now is the time to do so. I will come back with some feedback on what has been posted so far.
Thanks......Chris

:D Hey there, Chris
I couldn't resist but to show this mock-up.
*Note : Also I don't know if it is clear from my post, but this is not a font.
I took the time to carefully hand-draw each letter so that it is more delicate and more distinguished.

It is nice work, definitely a top pick. My only critique would be to replace the "and" with a stylized "&"
Thanks!

I'm definitely a fan of this one, It is a top choice -Very creative. I'm not sure the type fits the concept though. Maybe play with the font. I also wonder what the upside down "A" would look like with the bottom half filled in.
Thanks!

With the tag line (since I forgot it on the first post).
This also, is a top choice. Very clean, crisp and strong. My only fear is that it looks like a tech logo, maybe too modern. What do you think?
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Chris.
Not really sure how to answer that.
I went with your criteria:
1. Upscale
2. Freshness
3. Mix of modern and traditional styling
4. Fun
I used a fairly traditional (looking) font and paired it with a pretty modern looking, stylized coffee cup. Though I must say that the "fun factor" may be missing in my design.
If you have any ideas I'd be more than happey to work on it. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do with it on my own. :)

Hi :)

The "kabob looking thing" was meant to depict the "bistro" part of the name. If I just leave the cup it'll be a coffee shop, not coffee shop & bistro :) See #02-1.
I've added a couple of options with "food thingies" to continue with my original thought :) They're yours to choose from ;)

Here's my take on it...
This is a great design. If you would, please change the bottom triangle to a darker brown, leave the orangish color, and replace the green with a tan of some sort. We want to stay away from green. Thanks!
cool...how's this

:) Here is another look that I had in my imagination and only just now cast into form.
However, I do think that a company like yours would present itself more clearly and with a distinctive touch if you use a wordmark.
Two main reasons for doing this is that first the person who perceives the logo will focus on the letters and not on the graphic that goes with the logo, thus enabling him to associate the place with its name and further recognize it.
To put it succinctly : A freestanding symbol (whatever its advantages) competes for attention with the name.
And second, that it would be better for branding purposes(since it is in a more compact form and oozes just the right feel).
Thank you for your time.

Raja, congrats once again. I think this logo will be excellent fpr our concept. We still need to tweak the colors a bit. The last one may have been a little too light. We will need a black and white version, the longer rectangle version, and the larger square version. I need your expertise on the color though.

Nice Raja... Good Job
Thanks, Ron, there was so many cool logos :)
Chris, I will get back to you with some different colour combos.
Will this logo be on a back-lit store front sign?
Will it be 'dark' inside the establishment?
Has the decor been chosen, already,, if so, what are the colours?
cmcarthur
04-26-2005, 05:14 AM
No, at least initially it will not be used for a back-lit sign. The colors inside will be warm earth tone colors. The exact color scheme has not been decided on. The interior will be well lit.
Thanks!

How's the progress?
What do you think of introducing a cool blue?
cmcarthur
04-28-2005, 04:59 AM
The blue makes the coffee cold. Let's stick to earth tones. I think a slightly darker shade on the bottome would do the trick. Then we would be done. Thanks.
cmcarthur
04-28-2005, 05:00 AM
I need this as quick is possible. I am under a time crunch. Thanks for all your help.
What about these?.. If you have an exact shade in mind, please let me know.
The problem with going any darker is that it will start looking like the middle are brown, anymore darker and the black gets lost.
cmcarthur

What about these?.. If you have an exact shade in mind, please let me know.
I think we are going to go with the previous colors (see attached) Please polish it up, do what you do, and we can finalize this. Again, we will need the square one, the elongated retangular one, and the black and white one. Of course we will need the highest possible quality image formats. I thank you for your tremendous job. I'm sure this logo will serve us well.
