Company Name: Wholesale Spotlight
Deadline: 2 Weeks (May 3)
About the Company:
Our company is a wholesale and surplus "portal" dedicated to providing information to the wholesale and surplus buyer. We are an information resource, and provide "services" for buyers and sellers in the wholesale, surplus, and liquidation marketplace.
Colours:
Current colour scheme of layout can be seen :
here:http://www.surplusnetworks.com/index34.php
(logo can be ignored - space filler)
The Logo Design:
Looking for something to incorporate into the above concept - doesn't mean it has to be "blue and orange" - in fact, i'd like to pull in some nice colour to make the logo stand out.
Looking for something modern, corporate - yet something a litle bit "swanky" to stand out from the crowd.
Something that "blends well" with this layout.
Not to concerned about print layouts - this will be used exclusively for the web.
Ideas:
Perhaps a logo with some kind of "light" or "spotlight" - maybe something relating to the "wholesale" industry - i.e.// boxes, trucks, pallets, etc.
Look forward to seeing the results.
Cheers,
Andrew M.

Thanks Guys!
Bill:
Thanks for your submission - however, to me the logo looks "to busy" and "to bold". Not really trying to go in that direction - maybe something a little "simpler"..
Tyler:
Not to bad - the logo looks a little "simplistic" and "blah". Nothing that says "wow - what a cool icon" .
To Everyone:
It needs to be "simple", yet something memorable and brandable. It doesn't have to incorproate any of my suggestions above if there is something you can think of that would work better (im' no designer by any means).
Look forward to seeing more designs.
Andrew.

Hi Eziey,
Not to bad - more in the direction that i'm looking to go then the othres. However, it is a little "too bright" , and i'm not to fond of the text.. Otherwise, definately out of the 3 this is the direction im' leaning more towards.
Looking forward to seeing more concepts.

I've edited your project title to reflect the deadline date. It looks like you'd mistakenly put the start date there.

Hi,
Here's my version. Notice the spiral circles could be expanded on your site bar?
For color version, I just grabbed yellow and blue. yellow is triadic of your blue on web site . If it's too bright can shade the value or use another palette of colors.
This is my first attempt as an apprentice on Design Outpost
(ps. thanks Palmer)
I've read the rules in apprentice threads but might have missed some stuff so let me know if I'm missing stuff guys.

Quick Replies:
Wizard of Words: Interesting concept - not sure this is the direction i'm wanting to take... But definately would like to see something else you come up with.
eziey: getting to like this general idea - not to fond of the text - maybe something else, maybe some kind of different layout with the box.... i don't know..i like it, but i don't love it.
THanks - looking forward to seeing a couple more concepts :)

I was just looking at a couple logo's out here..and i tend to like the idea of having some "reverse colours"..that is...maybe some of the words can be white, and havea background colour, instead of the backround always being white, and the text colour..not sure if it would work, just a suggestion :)

Hi Eziey,
Looks good - im' still not overly amazed - for some reason it just doesn't work 100% for me.... What do you think? Can you think of some other different concepts that may work better? I like it - but it just doesn't jump out at me... It seems a little cramped among other things.
I'm curious to see if there is somethign "completely" different that i may love... maybe not even taking any of my ideas, but rather someting that you as a graphics designer think would work well..
Anyways.... i'll think about something more "descriptive" to get my feelings across..thanks for the concepts, i definately think they have some potential.

Hey eziey ,
Much better - i'm think that the icon background is maybe a little to dark, or something down' look just right with that...
I found this website:
http://www.holosonics.com/
I thought that was an interesting interpretatino of a "spotlight" - simple - yet effective..Maybe something like that coule work here - but a little "fancier"..
Cheers,
Andrew.

Eziey:
My favourite is so far your revision #6 - could you possibly make the logo (the circle with the box in it) a little more similiar to the circles found here:
http://www.wholesalespotlight.com/info.php
Also, is it possible to make the box stick out a little from the circle - simliar to the "envelope" and the excalamation marks?
Great job - thanks for your hard work.
Paula:
Those don't cathc my eye...seem a little to simple - looking for something a little bit more funky and modern.. of those my favourite is
#2...will post more later :) hopefully see a couple more revisions.

Do you mean make it completely round? Or keep it oval like current?
andmunn
04-23-2005, 02:15 PM
Hi Eziey - i meant to say revision #5...sorry :) my favourite is reviision #5 ..thats what's probably confusing you - so it seems it is completely round :)
Otherwise, everythign i said above applies, except it sholud be revision #5 instead of #6 - sorry for the confusion.

I like #13 alot....the italics work for me - can you show me how this would look in the layout?
Also - is it possible to change the box around a little? Not sure what can be done - i love the overall look of the logo...but maybe the box can be made a little better? Maybe something 2d instead of 3d - maybe a couple boxes, i'm not sure..but i wouldn't mind seeing 1-2 variations of this part of the logo...
the #13 text is perfect for me though.

Hi Eziey,
Looks great - could you maybe increase the font size a little in the logo? Looking to see if we can maybe get the logo a slight bit larger all around - Otherwise, no complaints.

Hi Eziey,
Ignore the above :) what i was trying to say is that for the final version i need the logo to be around 250pixels wide - i hope this is not a problem...
Also, instead of having a "curved" edge where it says "Spotlight" can you make it a straight edge to match the "tabs" in the body of the page? Make sense?
Thanks,
Andrew.
Andrew.

No problem with the size:)

Hi Eziey,
Looks great - could you possible include a small slogan somewhere in there? (maybe underneath the word spotlight):
- Wholesale Products, Marketplace, Resources ™
Otherwise - absolutely love it.
Cheers,
Andrew.

I don't think it is a good idea to put the slogan within the logo..It won't be easy to read in 230 pixel size and also make the logo busy. The way the slogan is placed currently in the layout is much better. Please advise.

Hi Eziey,
You are right - better without the slogan :) WAY to small - I want to choose you as the winner of the contest - thanks for your patience.
Hopefully you can help me and get the size that works best for my web page - will i have access to a vector image for the future / layered photoshop?
Let me know - eager to get this implemented :)
Thanks again!
Andrew.

Thanks Eziey -
Not sure how this works - but do you email me the files? (amunk@look.ca). Also, if possible, can you provide a GIF file with the a height of 70 pixels - and whatever the relative width would be at this point.
Thanks again Eziey,
Andrew.

your work is very talented... so if clent sees something they like, they can close the contest early?
eziey

Of Course...Client is king here:)
They can close early or extend the deadlineas they wish.
Good Luck...You should work faster next time...
You should be alert of contest title...
When it stated "designer chosen" means it has already a winner.
