I am looking for a logo for a lawn care company. Our name is simple, our business is simple and the logo should be simple. I have attached our current logo for reference. We are very happy with this, but it is just modified clip-art, so anyone else could use it too.
We want to stick with the theme of a simple 21" lawnmower. No people, or fancy equipment.
We are open to any color scheme, but it must work in monochrome as well, for screen printing t-shirts, yellow page ads, etc.
We will need to use this for business cards, flyers, shirts, website, etc, so we will need an eps file and a psd file with the text and image as separate layers (if they do not overlap). We need the logo and text to be separate from the background. We use Photoshop Elements 2.0, so we will need to verify that we can open your files before getting too far down the road.
We also need to know the fonts and colors used so that we can use the same for phone numbers, etc.
Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide or if any of these requirements will present a problem. Thanks in advance for the help.

I like the second one a little better than the first. Both are simple and elegant, which is what we are looking for. The only real problem with the first one is the layout. The second one is more square and will fill out the back of a work shirt better.
Keep 'em coming! They look great! Thanks.

Deanna,
I like yours too. I'm hoping I can explain this clearly. It's late, after all.
I like the "Lawn Mowers" on the first one, but I like the "inc" and the tufts of grass on the second one. Maybe you could raise the "Lawn Mowers" on the first one a little and scoot the grass tufts over to the right so that they cover the "inc". Also, can you pull the green strip in a little on each end, so that it falls on the same arc as the "Lawn Mowers"?
Eziey,
Can you try to incorporate the grass tufts in front of the mower too?
Thanks to both of you for the help.

Most of our work shirts are either royal blue or kelly green with white logos and text. For the monochrome samples, can everyone do white logos on royal blue backgrounds? Thanks again.

Deanna,
Can you scoot the mower over to the right, so that it is more or less under the "M", like in concept 1.
Thanks again.

Here's a different take on the logo...

Eziey I like your new design, but I prefer the other. I can't quite explain why. I think it might be the sense of movement from the relatively long horizontal surface. It is the same with Deanna's logo. They just feel good, like I'm out in the sun without a care in the world.
Your new one feels a little claustrophobic, if you can believe that I get those sorts of feelings from looking at logos. I think I would like to see that one without the tufts of grass, though.
Bill I am torn. I really like this concept, but it reminds me of the old Speed Buggy cartoon (which I loved). I am concerned that if we have a name that could have come from a five year old and a cartoonish logo, we might have gone too far to be taken seriously. At the same time, I can't stop looking at it! Let me think on that one for a day or two.
Thanks again everyone. These are really great.

Bill Your design continues to grow on me. I still don't know if we can pull it off with our name, though. Can you provide a revision where the grass to the left is well manicured? Thanks.
Everyone else I'll be back with some more feedback this afternoon. Thanks for all of the great designs!

Sorry I did not get this to you yesterday.
eziey I like all of your designs and you are giving me a lot to consider. I think #5 is my favorite of your designs so far. I prefer #7 to #6.
graphixparanoid Can you revise #2 so that it is not completely encircled? Maybe so that the arc extended to just above the green on either side. It could even be just the text. It feels a little unbalanced to me, with the text going so high on the right.
Bill Thanks. That's what I was looking for. I don't have any other revision requests at the moment.

At present, the front-runners are #1b from Deanna, #5 from eziey and the revised logo from Bill. I like the balance of Deanna's, the sense of movement and freedom of eziey's (also in Deanna's to a lesser degree) and the playfulness of Bill's.
My experience with this sort of thing in the past has been on the management side of software development. I am accustomed to critiquing workflows and functionality, but I am at sort of a loss when it comes to designs like these. So, if there is anything I can tell any of you that would be helpful, don't hesitate to ask, because I might not think to tell you otherwise.

graphixparanoid I liked the green and orange elements of the first design. It was just the text that seemed unbalanced. Can you do the first one, without the black circle, with the text like it is in the revision, but in a color other than white?
I hope that is sort of understandable.

I like the concept, but it is a little too hard to tell that it is a mower at first glance and then it almost looks like it is a broken down old mower. I'm not sure if this is because of the angle or because of the pencil-sketch look (Is that the right description?), or if it is something else altogether.
I think I would like it better if the lines were a little lighter/thinner. Also, the deck (where the blade is) should be rounded.
Thanks for the submission. I would be interested to see a revision. I think part of the problem is that many MANY of my potential customers have old lawnmowers rusting away in their back yards, so it is an easy image to conjure up unintentionally.

I'm a junkie for the streamlined 50's atomic era "automobile of the future" type of stuff, but I couldn't find any good examples to post tonight. I'll keep looking.

We liked #5, but preferred the text in #9, so I guess the best starting point would be to see if a similar layout can work with #5.

Cool.
Can you pull the "LAWN MOWERS" in on #11, so that the L and the S are lined up with the ends of the grass (or extend the grass a little)?

Actually, I think extending the grass a little would be better than pulling the lettering in.

eziey,
I would like to work on the size of the mower and sun. Can you show me the following three revisions?
1. Keep the right side of the mower and sun where they are, but enlarge this portion of the logo so that the left wheel of the mower is above the left side of the "O" in Mowers.
2. Keep the right side of the mower and sun where they are, but enlarge this portion of the logo so that the left wheel of the mower is above the right side of the "M" in Mowers.
3. Keep the right side of the mower and sun where they are, but enlarge this portion of the logo so that the left wheel of the mower is above the left side of the "M" in Mowers.
Thanks again.
