(Admin code added by Michael - J0028207)
Hello. We are looking for a logo for our software company, CleverKite. We would like the logo to consist of a kite and the words CleverKite (no space). The kite should be able to stand on its own as a separate logo, and should be capable of being minimized to 16x16 or 32x32 pixels. We will be using the logo on websites, stickers, t-shirts, business cards and letter heads.
The logo should be fun and creative and should convey an attitude of quiet confidence and clean elegance.
The kite should contain some bright colors (no more than 3) that would look good on various shades of blue background. We currently have a website up at http://www.cleverkite.com, but it is a work in progress. Ideally, the kite and logo should work well on that blue header background.
We are looking forward to your submissions.
Thanks,
---Tom

Thanks for the submissions.
Bill:
I appreciate your effort, but those kite logos are not exactly what we are looking for. We are looking for something a little more fun with a bit more personality. Could you try something different. Also, the logo should only say "CleverKite", without the software. Could you try some different fonts?
Raja:
Your kite definitely has a lot of personality, which we like. Would you mind trying a couple of different kites so we have some other options? Also, the logo should just say "CleverKite" with no software and a capital C and K. Could you try a couple of different fonts as well?
Thanks,
---Tom

Hi David,
We like your submission. It is clean and elegant and has a good feel. However, could you try to choose some colors that would work better with our website?
Also, could you try a couple variations on your design just so we have some options such as a slightly different font. We like the way you have the kite breaking outside of its surrounding container. Could you try a couple of variations of that technique with different containers, such as an oval or sphere or your choice :)?
Thanks,
---Tom

Hi David,
Thanks for the quick turnaround. You are definitely moving in the right direction. Of your latest three we like the two without the orange best. Could you try some subtle variations of the positioning and orientation of the kite graphic with them? Also, we were kind of hoping to get a splash of color outside of our mono-chromatic theme. Could you try choosing a few variations with a color that would be complimentary to use in the kite?
Thanks again,
---Tom

Sorry for the delay. I had to go out of town, so I just now got a chance to review them with my business partner. Thanks for all the entries so far. Individualized feedback is below:
Trysen:
Very creative. I like the kite logo. I am not sure that the colors will mesh well with our blue and silver monotone scheme though. Could you try some alternatives? Also, could you make the 'i' look a bit more like a person holding the kite string?... since I think that is what you were going for.
Tonya:
Thanks for the submission. I appreciate you putting the logo into a gradient blue background... however, it will most likely be in a solid blue or solid white background. Also, the kite logo seems a bit too rigid for what we are looking for. Could you try softening it up or making it more fluid? For the font, we are leaning more towards something like davegk's entry.
Fran:
Thanks for the entries. Your entries are nice, but we were looking for a more defined kite shape in our logo. Could you make your entries more kite-like?
Fabian:
Thanks for joining the contest. Could you try making a more detailed kite for the logo? Also, the colors are not quite what we are looking for. We would love to see some more attempts from you.

Thanks for all the new submissions. Feedback follows:
DaveGK:
Hi Dave. We would still like to see another revision from you.
We would just like to see a couple of color variations of your version 3 submission. Also, could you try showing us a minimized kite logo (just the kite), so we can see how it will look at say 32x32 and 16x16. Thanks.
Tyler:
Thanks for the submission. Your kite looks clean, but is not quite what we are looking for. Could you try a couple of variations? Also, the font seems a little on the plain side. Thanks.
MOZ:
Thanks for entering. We are really looking a kite in our logo. Try again?
Trysen:
That is a very creative entry. I appreciate all of your efforts on it. I also appreciate you embedding it in a mock website. We really like your creativeness, but the feel is not really what we are looking for. We are looking for something a bit more serious, but at the same time still fun and creative. We would love to see some additional entries by you.
Eziey:
Of your two entries, the second one is closer. However, could you try a more stylized font. Also, could you try giving the kite a bit more character? It is a bit too plain as it stands.
Fran:
Thanks for the updates. They are definitely moving in the right direction. However, we are looking for a kite that could stand on its own as a logo. Is there any way you could make your kites a bit more memorable?
Hypnosis:
Thanks for your entry. Your kite has a good feel to it. I don't think we like the way the swooping tail looks, it makes the "Clever" hard to read. Also, the words clever and kite should be given roughly the same priority/weight. And no "Software". Thanks.

Thanks again for all of the new submissions. As general feedback to all, we think the words Clever and Kite should be pretty much the same font and color (a slight color variation may be acceptable), but for the most part they should look the same.
Also, although this is a bit late in the competition, we really like the logos of the mozilla foundation (mozilla.org). So, if you need some different inspiration, here are two of their logos we particularly like: http://www.mozilla.org/images/product-firefox.png and http://www.mozilla.org/images/product-thunderbird.png
Here are some more specific comments:
eziey:
Thanks for all the variations. However, the kite does not really match what we are looking for. Would you mind trying a couple of other variations?
Fabian:
Your design looks nice and clean. But I don't really feel that your logo resembles a kite enough.
Trysen:
Thanks for bringing out the creativity again. However, I am not quite sure I like the chip kite.... we are trying to not be too techy in our feel. The second entry is also a bit too Star Trekky for our tastes. Thanks for all of your efforts so far, you are definitely putting in some good effort. If you would like to try designing a logo that feels the same as the Mozilla logos mentioned above, but with a kite... and the sky or the world or whatever I would love to see it.
Hynosis:
The tail looks better, but I am still not sure about it. And the kite looks nice... but perhaps a bit too kite-like... perhaps if you could make it a bit more artistic? If you would like to try again, we would like to see it.
Fran:
Thanks for the new entry. I am not sure we like the kite logo. It kind of looks like a 'd' and a 'k'.
Tonya:
This entry definitely looks better. I like the fluidness of your lines. Could you clean up the kite image to make it look a bit more kite-like?
Marcusfizner:
Nice new entry. Thanks for the separate design page link as well. Could you try some different colors that would work better with our site? Also, our current logo is Palatino Linotype 56pt bold. Could you try using that font in your design?
Hello, here's another try
Best regards

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the great submissions. Since it is getting close to the deadline, I am going to narrow it down to the 3 front runners. The deadline is not a hard deadline... so if it carries into the weekend that is no problem.
The top three are (in no particular order):
- DaveGk's version 3
- eziey7
- marcusfizner logo 3 (mozilla theme)
DaveGk:
-------------------------
Thanks for the recent submissions, I think we like the right-most version 3 best... but we may want to change the color slightly if we choose you. That can wait though until we choose the winner.
Eziey:
-------------------------
Nice new entry. That definitely has a lot of good style. We really like the color variations, but just want to try a few alterations. Here is some feedback (sorry if this is too many suggestions :))
- The fire is a bit too intense, could you perhaps try a version with less flames, maybe one with more of a ribbons/streamers feel instead of flames, and perhaps one with a wind/motion feel instead of the flames (the wind/motion can be just some cool looking lines and distortion)?
- This may be a bit more difficult, but right now, the logo is sort of built like a pyramid, skinny at the top and wide at the bottom. Could you try a variation that is more balanced, so that the kite portion at the top is almost as wide as the text at the bottom? I am not sure if this is possible. Don't bother doing this for each of the above flame suggestions... I would just like to see one attempt at this.
MarcusFizner
-------------------------
That is quite a good Mozilla theme. Thanks for that. However, could you create a different kite, perhaps a more triangular stunt kite. The kite should be a bit more dominant, rather than the earth. And feel free to have the right wing tip break outside of the circular logo a bit. If possible try for one primary color and perhaps an alternate accent color for the kite. Also, the glare is just a tad too high on the kite.
One last optional note... the tail of the kite looks kind of cool and fun, but could you try, if this is possible, to make it feel more like wind/motion of the kite wrapping around the earth.. like it just flew around the earth?

Great logo. We really like it. We prefer the one with the blue tail. You did an excellent job on it. We are just going to wait for Eziey's submission to make our choice. Thanks for your efforts.

Thanks to all who participated! We had a great time working with everyone, and will be back for any of our future design needs :D
Marcusfizner, we will post a couple of revision requests once this is moved to the revisions forum.
BTW - I can't find the "Designer Chosen" link as mentioned in the client guide... so not sure if I am missing something... please let me know if I need to do something else to get this to the revisions forum.

Marcusfizner:
Hi. All of the comments below correspond to the blue tailed version (logo 3 version 4). By the way, is your name Aaron (from your website) or Marcus?
As for the revisions... we don't want anything major, but here are a couple of things we would like to slightly alter (or at least see how it looks):
1) The globe seems to show the continents a bit more in the red tailed logo 3 version 3. Could you make a copy that highlights the continents more in the version 4 logo?
2) Could you try to make the tail line up with the tip of the kite?.. so it looks like it flew in a perfect circle around the globe? Also, perhaps leave a little more room in between the tail end and the kite tip. Feel free to slightly reposition either the kite or the tail end to make this happen.
3) The kite logo on top of the text may take up too much real-estate for our website. Could you create a version with the logo to the left of the text and adjust the text so it looks proportional?
Thanks,
---Tom

Thanks for the revisions Aaron. We like the middle one best in your examples. We would like to see just two slight changes:
- Could you leave a little more space between the kite tip and the tail end? That way it will look more like motion, rather than Saturn :)
- Could you make the tail a bit more symmetrical? For instance, you can see more space betw the bottom tail and the Earth than you can in the top tail. Please make the top tail the same distance as the bottom tail. In other words, we like the space the bottom one has.
Thanks,

Thanks Aaron. That looks great.
By the way, is it an illusion, or is there more space between the earth and the tail in the white version? If there is more space, could we make it the same as the blue version? (If not... not biggie).
Also, would it be possible to get a copy of just the kite in 2D for use as a watermark and possibly little site icons?
Also, the 16px version is a bit hard to see. Is there any way to make that a bit more crisp... (even if it means adding some artificial background color in it)? If not, I can work with it.
Aside from that, what information do you need from me to finish this up? As in, what formats, etc? I am primarily looking to use it in the web, business cards and letter head.. but teeshirts and stickers may also be in the future. Also, could I get a copy that is in a pure format for further modifications if necessary (AI, or Photoshop or whatever)?
Thanks and it has been a pleasure working with you.
