Hello designers,

I’m in the process of starting a small software business, Newtonsoft, and I need a great logo for the website. I’ve been amazed by what I’ve seen in the forums and I’m sure you guys can create something just as great for me as well. As just starting out the website and I don’t have any existing style to follow. I’m hoping the final logo will create a tone to later have the website designed around.

Here are the logo details:

Business name: "Newtonsoft". The ‘soft’ is software abbreviated so the you can style the two parts differently if you wish. Can be upper, lower or mixed case.

Tagline: I haven’t nailed this down yet so the exact words aren't important but I’m swinging between “Part of the solution” and “.NET Solutions”. Upper, lower or mixed case.

Format: Vector format so it can easily be resized for use on the website, in documentation and in software.

Style: Something professional and clean but also stylish with 2 or 3 main colours.

Theme: My only thought was something around gravity, orbits or planets (Newtonsoft -> Isaac Newton) but that has the potentional to look a little cliche. I’m open to ideas.

Other: I’ve noticed most logos seem to consist of an image and some text. I don't want them totally disconnected but it would be good if the logo image could stand alone from the logo title for use on its own.

I look forward to seeing your ideas.

Edit - some designs I quite liked from looking around your forum:

Here's my entry...

Thanks for your entry Bill. It is an interesting idea but not quite the look I'm going for. An apple seems a bit childish and I'm hoping for something a bit more abstract and stylised.

Didn't an apple fall from a tree and hit Newton on the head? Isn't that what people remember?

That is true but it isn't quite a professional enough look for me. Sorry.

Designers:
I've updated my post with some links to other designs I quite liked.

davegk:
An interesting idea. I'm not sure about the font or the design of the ring. Also for places where vertical real estate is limited I'd like to have the logo sit to the left of the title and I think it would look a little odd to have an N before Newtonsoft.

Taldo:
Great two designs. The first is a little plain and the colors a little bright, but the concept of your second design I really like. The O and orbiting planets works well as part of the title and would work well by itself which is something I'm after.
The two big things I'd like to see tweaked with the design are the colors and making it a bit bigger and bolder.
Some color ideas I have are replacing the purple with blue and darkening the green a little (although I guess bolding it will make it appear a little darker by itself). Perhaps also try a combination with grey replacing the green?

Another logo/title design that I've come across which I quite like is this (http://www.otakusoftware.com/) website's.

Jason:
Thanks, but I'm looking for something more than just text. It is a little hard to read also.

Mark:
Like I said to davegk, where vertical real estate is limited, like as the title for a website, I'd like to have the logo sit to the left of the title and I think it would look a little odd to have an N before Newtonsoft. I'd also prefer to have something a little more abstract than an N for the logo.

Taldo:
Nice Taldo, I like your second design even more. Two things I'd like to see is the text a little bolder (again :)) and a darker blue to contrast more with the green.
Also could you do a second version so I could see what it would look like with a san serif font?

Thanks eziey but I've decided I want to go with Taldo's design. Could someone move this to the revisions forum?

Taldo I like the overall design but it feels a little wishy washy to me. Do you have any ideas on making it look more professional?

Some of mine are perhaps sharper tagline text, a still darker blue or a less expansive font. I'd appreciate anything else you can think of. This isn't my forte :)

I'll work on some variations for you

I think that font is a little too compact. Try something inbetween (or even better just throw me a whole bunch of variations with different fonts).

Also the greens could probably be a little lighter and more electric, especially that O which definitly looks a different color than the font for some reason. Apple green maybe?

Another thing is I'm not so sure about having a tag line as part of the logo itself anymore. Could you try a version without it and see if you could do something so the circles don't hang so far below the text.

Finally can you think of anything to add some more detail around the O and the circling planets to give it a bit more impact and more interesting? Unfortunatly I don't have any ideas myself.

My web template thread address is http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7592 if seeing what I'd like as a website helps.

let me know what you think of these. I like them better with the tagline..

Excellent! I love it.

The top right is the one I like best and I agree it does look better with the tagline.

Could you do a version around this size - http://www.newtonsoft.com/images/logo.png - for me too give the designers working on the website. I did that as a temporary solution and its quality is a bit naff :)

Also do you mind waiting a couple of days before we finalize things, just in case the logo needs to be tweaked slightly to fit in better with the web design?

Taldo I'm happy with that design and don't want anymore changes.

Could you post the files?
