[Project Complete] Logo needed for professional K-9 business

I'm looking for a "edgy" logo for a business that I operate. Phoenix K-9 is a family owned business that provides professional K-9 services. We currently do private K-9 training as well as breeding of elite bloodline German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois. We have a couple of dogs in training to provide private contract narcotics and explosive detection abilities as well as personal/private protection services. I'm looking for a modern, yet simple logo that reflects the type of services that we provide. I have a logo that was previously used that I can e-mail you privately, but am looking for something a little more eye-catching.

Could I possibly see this design without the phoenix bird head in the logo and re-center everything? A couple of other thoughts:
1. Would there be some other color combinations, fades, etc. that we could used to make this look like "flames"
2. Could you move the word "Phoenix" above the design?

I really like this idea, and am seeing a lot of ideas similar to this, but would like to tweak it just a little bit.

:) Sorry for the delay. Here are few more ideas and i have edit the old concept with new colors.

I really like what we have here, just a couple of last minute changes. Can we move the word "Phoenix" above the wings and dog head and return the "K-9" back into the open arch of the wings as it was at first? Also, let's put the text and dog head back to the original text and wing color of the dark red.

Thanks, but we need to switch the colors once more. I would like to have the wings with the "flame-like" color as we had in the previous version, and the dog head and text in the blood red color. Thanks for hanging with me.
