Hoping you're well.

I have written a book that will accompany software on speed reading. (It is a book and piece of software that trains people to read more rapidly).

In order to help people orient themselves in the book I want a graphic
that will be put on the page edge. It will tell them what section
they are in and what they need to do. It will be more or less the same graphic but one of the icons will be highlighted in some way to show the user that they are in a particular section. (Perhaps in the same way as buttons on a software application are pressed in or out).

It would be nice if all four icons could be joined in some way so that it will look less bitty/ disjointed.

There are four symbols.
1. page is information / teaching / learning
2. page is an exercise to do in the book
3. page is to be read with your computer beside you
4. page is a speed test.

All four symbols will be on every page. So the thing must look VERY
professional.

It should be black/grey and white.

As it is small they must be simple icons.

They should be on or off. For instance, if it is a speed test on your
computer that you should be doing the symbols for the computer and the
test should be highlighted. (? the others are greyed out, and / or a
button is depressed or out, as computer graphics buttons change to
look on or off). If you give me the basic drawings I will be able to adjust for all the combinations that are necessary.

On the outside there must be an area where if the page is cut slightly
too small the image itself won't be cut, say 2mm.

Please see attached to get a better idea of what I mean.

Thanks,
Louis

Hi Louis,
This looks like a great project. 2 questions for you.
Are you wanting these icons done in Illustrator?
And do you have a proposed budget for this?

Thanks!

Hi Kelly,

I don't mind what they are done in so long as I can copy and paste them easily without losing definition into an MS Word document. (They will eventually go to the printer in PDF format).

Re price: I put in $50 on the basis that they are similar to web icons. The recommended price for these was $10. So 10 x 4 + 10 for the surround. However, I am not familiar with design outpost market prices, so I may need to revisit this.

All the best,
Louis

I liked the style very much. If you'll do the other three to the same standard and the surround the project is yours.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing your work,
Louis
PS attached is a sample page so you can see the need more clearly.

So here are all the icons, be sure to post any changes you might want, if any. :) I'll do the border or unifying graphic after we've settled on the icons.

I have contacted the client and we are ready to get this one wrapped up with the winner - here is the email from Louis:

Dear Lori,

My appologies. The desginer got delayed and in the meantime the project got put on a back burner and I forgot about it. I hope you understand.

I would like to choose Christian. (Indeed I like hi style very much and may use him again in the future).

I was looking to see how I could close out on the project and it is not evident to me.

Thanks,
Louis

And my email back to him:

Louis,

Thank you so much for your reply.
I would like to move back to the thread where Christian can be privy to our conversation, so I will post there.

All you need to do now is make sure that you lead Christian to design all icons that you require while in revisions and have him deliver the files to you when you say they are good :)

Please let me know if I can help in any way :)

SO - Congratulations Christian - can you please help Louis to make sure he knows what he needs to do to complete this with you? He has attached a word doc above that I think may have specs on all the icons he requires.

Thank you to you both!

Thanks Lori.
Sorry, Christian... it went clear out of my mind. Your work looks very good to me. If you could put an i symbol for information on the 'page is information' icon.
Originally I asked for a boarder/unifying graphic as well. In view of the time delay I understand if you would prefer not to or if you were to ask for an additional $20.

By the way, I don't know how to close out on this project!
Anyway we'll come to that later.

All the best,
Louis

Louis,

All that you need to do to 'close' is receive your files from Christian (when complete) and then come here and post that you received them. I then move it to the Project Archives :)

Thanks again for being so quick to reply to me, and do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything at all.
