(Admin code added by Palmer - 205114B)

Hello all, we're hosting a logo contest for our company, ROOP Audio Labs LLC. We consult and design audiophile and home theatre systems for our clients. Additionally, we are representatives for a select few audiophile component manufactuers. We primarily cater to the Manhattan / Hamptons clientele, and are located within NYC. Additionally, we provide acoustic treatments to restaurants/lounges/orchestral halls.

I'm looking for a logo that's sophisticated and elegant, but still appeals to the 20-45 age group (let me know if I'm out of line in my demands yet) :) ). I'd prefer to have an icon for the company, with the words written in some deviation of a font that I can use to author the website content. The prize right now is a guaranteed minimum of $135 (it's been paid; hopefully Palmer will verify soon).

UPDATE: we're planning on having a website at www.roopaudiolabs.com - and will also be hosting a contest soon for the template :)

Thanks everyone

Rupesh

It's verified. Thanks Rupesh, and best of luck to you.

In case I'm being unclear - ideal examples of companies that have logos I would like to emulate include: Apple, Goldman Sachs - of course, those are idealistic examples. I'm not asking for the same caliber from the deisgners.

Thanks again

I was going to use this character for a personal project, that I just don't have time for. It was originally designed with a euro / japanese club feel, not sure if that is too far away from your clientle.

Rupesh,

Good luck with your business. Here's the initial concept. Feel free to suggest any necessary changes.

Firstly - everyone thank you all for your submissions. I'm very, very excited already based on the quality of all of these submissions ;).

Also, to provide some further info: we will plan to badge all of the components we sell on the back with our iconic portion of the logo - sort of how cars always have the sticker on the back over the light of the dealership purchased from. However, this sticker will only be the company symbol without the words "ROOP Audio Labs", and so some sort of graphical representation will be required. If this means additional funds, we'll look into adding some more prize money.

I am going to go and research costs for printing business cards with logos - I know a vector format is required, but am not familiar with the pricing structure for gradations of a single shade (ex: light to dark orange) - and if that is any less than a full color business card. If anybody out there knows about these things, please let me know.

Addressing logos in reverse order:

Victoria - the logo is clean, the font clean and contemporary, but there is no graphical icon that is part of the logo.

Ondarox - thank you for the submissions - they're both done well. Your more recent submission is too elaborate with the icon, and the font is a touch too modern for our tastes. Regarding the first submission - I like the clean lines and simple look, but feel the speakers are too boxy and stand out too much from the logo. While I'm not averse to graphically representing the "O"'s in ROOP, I think I would like something more low key.

Keegan - I can definitely see that logo being used in a trendy club/lounge. I think it's too loud for our purposes, though.

geiger - I like these logos quite a bit. It's fun, simple, and extremely clean. I think I'd like to make a few minor stylistic remarks for the head, but I'll get back to you.

Thanks everybody, keep them coming. I'm going to post the template contest very soon - already the quality of these submissions makes me confident in raising the purse for the offering for the template contest, and maybe the logo contest as well.

Rupesh,

Thanks for the favorable response. It's all still very much customizable. I'll show you a one-colored version in a second.

geiger,

Alright, well color-printing costs are alright, so feel free to use as many as you'd like ;). Additionally, can you try making a few sytlistic variations? I'm not sure how I'd like them to be made, but I'd just like to see slight variations if possible. I think I'd also like to see a version where the headphones are more distinct from the head, so the separation can be seen from further away.

Thanks

Sure, I'll get right to that. In the meantime, here are a few versions of the original logo in colors, etc.

The last one will give you an idea of single-color printing (faxes, etc.).

Here's a couple variations. On the second image, I both made the head smaller and separated it more from the speakers. Perhaps I should leave it the same size and just remove it a bit more than initially, but let me know what you think :D

Here a go...an abstract look. Any feeback is helpful! Thanks.

Jackie can you make your entries a little bit smaller width wise? You can resize it and replace the attachemnt with the smaller one. Those of us with smaller resolutions have to scroll sideways to see all of it.

Thanks :)

Basically the same, except this one has an EQ in the left lens, and the Graphic Display in the right.
Please advise.

Unfortunately I'll be leaving Thursday morning for a 10 day vacation. This could cause a small problem if I do win, but I have a few suggestions:

1) I leave my final design with somewho who, if I win, will send it to you.

2) You wait 10 days

3) [admin edit]Not allowed according to the designers rules[/edit]

I'll continue to make revisions today. Sorry for the troubles.

Wow! Quite a few nice entries in the past few days. Again, thanks to everyone for the effort. Here is some commentary in reverse order:

geiger - showed the entry to my partner. He also thought the design was excellent, but isn't as enthusiastic for it as I am. The cheif complaint is that the logo is too "fun", and will not be taken seriously by the affluent, sophisticated crowd that we cater to. I don't agree with him on this one, but we must both agree on the design in order to accept it. Not sure what to say, other than to ask if you can make the icon more serious, or come up with another angle?

ondarox - I definitely like your newer entry much more. I appreciate the idea of having an "R" stylized to represent the company. However, I think the "R" designed below is a little too contemporary.

cre8or - thank you for the submissions. They're both well-done, but I'm definitely looking for something more conservative. I'm not sure the idea of a robot-head type is something that will appeal to my clients.

ubergerlgeek - wow! this entry is great. I did have some questions though - could you tell me how many discrete colors are used, and also if there is any shading involved? Ideally, I would like the business cards to have raised lettering and a raised logo, but I can't do that with more than 6 colors. but I love the clean look, the gradient shading of the EQ. I'd like to see one in blue as well, if possible.

Victoria - this is the best implementation of graphical "O"'s I've seen. about as low key as you can get in implementing speakers into the O's. Would it be possible to see a version with a capital 'R'?

jmberra - thank you for the entry. I'm not sure this is the look we're going for. The abstract icon is large, and doesn't match our style. Thank you though.

Again, everybody thank you. Keep up the excellent work!

I'm not sure if there's too much I can do in order to make it more "respectable". I did bring it a bit from the headphones and change the eye shape so he's a bit more serious.. Here's what I suggest you relay to your partner:

Today, many of the most successful companies are reverting to a stylistic approach to their corporate identity. In the age where computers are everywhere, you'll start seeing more and more desiring a more "fun" look. A prime example of this is UPS who recently updated the logo to the one shown at http://www.ups.com/ . Your clients want to know that you're current on things and you're in the technology business. I'd suggest showing how "in style" you are.

Let me know what you think. BTW will the Palmer-issued-files arrangement work for you? Today's my last day...

geiger,

Your latest design looks great - I will forward the information you cited to my partner. if I could ask you to leave the final version (most recent) in both blue and the orange you displayed with Palmer, then I have no problems.

Thanks

Rupert,

Here are the designs I'll have ready for you. If there's any additional modification you'd like, let me know and I'll take care of it tomorrow. There's three colors - orange, blue, and grayscale. Also, three styles - complex, simple, and solid. Notice the glare on ROOP text of the first two styles.

Just realized, does ROOP come from your name, Rupert?

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

ubergerlgeek - can I see version 1 of the logo in blue?

geiger - yep, that's where the ROOP came from; except my name isn't Rupert ;)

Thanks!

Haha, pardon me. I know it's terribly rude to forget a name :(

I suppose I'm all finished with the files. I'm sending Palmer your username/password for my client system at http://www.sitespin.com/clients . Should you select my design, he'll send you the login information so you can download 21 files - including 9 web images, 10 working files, 1 high-resolution print TIFF, and the Angostura (ROOP) font.

Let me know if you'll need anything and I'll get back to you today. :D
