(Admin code added by Palmer - 08B177735A)

This is a project on behalf of a client. The following information is about the client offering.

Company name: BestBuyLocal

Company profile: The aim of the website is to provide easy access to local shops - the kind of shops that may not (individually) have spent the time and effort to have an on-line presences. The site will be launched as a offering in the United Kingdom and will allow users to navigate to a specific district and view products for that area. Note: if you're showing any prices in examples can you make then in sterling (i.e. £) not dollars.

Domain name: www.bestbuylocal.com

Project Scope: New site

Intended audience: The site must have a wide appeal and simple, clean layout and navigation.

Mood: We are looking for a dynamic feeling site - but one that is trustworthy. We're open to some innovative designs (i.e. other than the standard "sqaure boxes". Having said that we've described a fairly standard approach below - but that's because we're not desginers! )

Color psychology: Bold colours (from the logo) with lots of white space

Dynamic elements: Contact form, news, login, online catalog, shopping cart (we'd like a version of the logo used as the image for the shopping basket)

Resources: we've attached a version of the logo for the site Logo; and the clients mock up of the home page (please don't be constrained by the layout in this)

Websites you like: the client has mentioned the following urls; http://www.panasonic.co.uk/;

Deadline: 6th June 2005

Details: We're looking for 2 pages delivered as psd files

1) Main Page

Overall design - header, footer; main content
Header - logo; registration; search; shopping cart summary (top right); menu (home; newsletter; contact; about; help)
Main Conent - A brief welcome to the site; Map image size of 200 (height) by 250; panel ads; news panel

2) Browse Page

Overall - 3 column, Header, Footer
Header - logo; registration; search; shopping cart summary (topright); menu (home; newsletter; contact; about; help)
Left column - treeview navigation; node accent graphic
Middle column - 2 rows of product panels (model;description;max price; min price; image); list of other products (model;description;max price; min price)
Right Column - panel ads

Hello
Do you have logo at .psd or .eps?

Hi Aliska,

Thanks for the quick reply. The logo is currently in the final revision forum as the client is looking for a couple of changes (very slight, mainly text placement). Hopefully we should have a final .psd we can post in the next day or so.

Certainly the image and colours are not changing.

Attached is a first go at a the home page. Please let me know if this is the direction you are wanting.

I'm having a issue with the Browse page because I thought I knew what you wanted, but then I read your description closely and decided I didn't know what I thought I knew! I'm just not clear on exactly what the browse page is for and therefore having a hard time getting my head around the best way to design it.

Could you verify or correct my assumptions:

- The browse page is displayed after the region is selected.

- The individual shops are not shown, but instead a select or featured listing of products available in that region is displayed.

- The product categories are displayed for the visitor to choose from in the left hand navigation.

-This browse page is not a specific category page listing the products for sale in that category, but rather an "intro" page for the region and a base page to start the search for products.

- The page should feature two products and list the rest (or a featured group)

Now comes my confusion...what is the min/max price for if my assumptions are correct? The min/max triggered, to me, that the page was to be the page that was displayed after a category was selected and a list of products was displayed in a comparision pricing type environment.

If you could clarify for me, I'll get the Browse page done for you ASAP.

Hi InternetONE,

Thanks for your entry. An excellent start.

To try an clarify the browse page .. the idea is that after a user selects a region they will be presented with the initial browse page. This page will contain a tree of categories on the left, and a selection of "featured products" in the centre of the screen.

When a category is selected from the tree, the same page is displayed with a reduced number of "featured" products specific to that section, plus a list of products in the section along with their [minimum] price. I think the mention of a max price may have been misleading and can be ignored.

So in essence, if your design for the browse page shows the treeview on the left and some ads on the right, plus a few "featured products" and a list of "standard products" with a price, that would be great.

Hope this makes more sense, but if any further clarification is required please let us know. :)

Thanks.

OK guys - long overdue feedback.

Firstly, thanks for all the entries. We continue to be impressed by the quality of the work produced by the designers at designoutpost.

We're going to extend the deadline on this until the 13th June. The forum got off to a slow start, and the client wants you all to have a chance to respond.

In order of submission...

Cathy: the client liked your overall design; the background images etc. The design also incorporates all the features we asked for. The treeview page was also appreciated. However they felt that the "shopper" image was maybe a little prominent compared with the map. Are there any other image combinations you could show? Maybe a couple of smaller ones whilst repositioning the map?

Pod: the clean symmetrical lines of your design went down well. Compared with the others it was simpler and "to the point. The
client liked the idea of the large graphic - just wasn't sure of that particular one (although the sky blue works well as a
backgound). How would you envisage the design of the "browse page"?

Lalit: once again the client appreciated the general symmetry of the design although the client was not sure how "cohesive" it
felt. We think they meant that the colours didn't seem to be in harmony and, although the design is almost symmetrical - it's
not quite. We understand why some of the white space is there, but perhaps the client found it harder to visualise.

Aliska: your design was thought to be the most "business-like" one and it struck a cord with the client. The colour scheme is more subtle - which is quite a feat given the logo! The client really liked what you had done with the map. Was the map supposed to overlap the menu bar? Although perhaps the lady with the clipbord is too business-like for what is basically a retail site. If a different image was used it might give more of a retail flavour without losing the business edge. There were also no panel ads in the front page? Could we see some? We realise that you were showing the information from the client mock-up - but realistically, some of that has to be sacrificed.

einfusion: the client didn't really take to this design. When exploring it with them the problem seemed to be the header. The way the image is presented the header looks slightly unfinished - particularly the top right hand. Is it possible to to see the design with that part enhanced?

Anne: we did get a chance to include your designs in the review - just! The second design includes all the features that were requested and that went down quite well. Some comments were made about it being overly green and that it detracted from the logo. The client appreciated what you were doing with the colours - and it does kind of work. Could we see the large green area of the header toned down a little; perhaps more blended and/or shaded.

Once again thanks for your entries and we look forward to the revisions. We're keen to help the client reach as early a decision as possible!

Hi Pod,

We've got a few requests from the client if that's ok. He's played around with your design (sorry :) ) and has sent us the attached image of what he's wanting the home page to look like.

Could you please work your magic and come to a happy compromise? It's mainly just the size and position of the boxes :)

There are 2 "Be a market leader" boxes on the page at the moment. The client is wanting one boxes for business signups (the current box is fine for that) and the other box to be a customer/user signup with a new picture.

If you could change the heading and subheading of the 2 boxes to the following it would be great

Be a Market Leader!
Improve Business Performance

and for the customer box

Full of Features!
Keep informed of Developments

You can just leave the list with the ticks the same in both boxes at the moment.

Could the text in the blue box at the top be changed from "We will show you where" to "We show you where" and from "Select Region for Options" to "Select Region for Local Options"?

The client also very much liked the bag on the green background done by for the header by Anne (Message #20) and was wondering if you could find something like that he could use as a footer (where the white space is at the footer at the moment)? If you can't it's not a major issue.

You'll be glad to know we think the inner page is fine as it is, once we apply the modified header from the front page to it. :)

Hope this all makes sense. If not, just give us a shout.

Thanks for all your hard work. :)

Hi pod,

The client's just been in touch again and said that if the design works better with just 2 ad panels and the news panel then that's fine. Whichever works best. :)

Hi NVable,

İn my option this design is better without a large footer....
but if necessary I can design both versions for you (but first I must ask Anne for using her idea)

Thanks

Hey Pod,

I tend to agree with you about the footer, I don't think the site needs it, but it is something the client is keen on presently. So a version with and without would be ideal :)
