Background: My partners and I recently decided that we wanted a new logo for our orthodontic practice (I recently joined the office and now we need to update it to reflect my addition). We have seen other logos and design work done on this site and think the designers are superb!!! We are really excited to see the ideas that you all come up with.

Prize: $200.

Requirements: Logo.

Deadline: Monday 6-27-05 (3 weeks from today)

Profession: Orthodontist (braces, straightening teeth).

To give you all a little sense of what we are potentially looking for, we came up with a few variations on the design of our logo.
One idea we had included some type of integration of the first letters of our last names (E, H, and L) and having the logo be the incorporation of just these three letters, with our full last names spelled out under or beside it: Drs. Ellenikiotis, Harner, Low and Associates.
The second idea included having the 1st letters of our last name on three teeth possibly with braces with our full last names spelled out under or beside it.
The third idea included the 1st letters of our last names with a "perfect smile" similar to the one on our website with our full last names spelled out under or beside it.
Although two of these ideas incorporate teeth or a smile with teeth in the design, I am hoping the designs don't seem cheesy or look unprofessional - although some orthodontic offices only treat children and have a kid-type feel to them, our office caters to both adult and children and has a more sophisticated feel.
Our website (www.myperfectbite.com) incorporates various shades of blue and white (however, the colors don't have to be limited to this as we might change the overall look of our website based on the logo!)

I was wondering if there is additional information needed that might help with the design of our logo... I realize the deadline is not for a couple of weeks, but I am really looking forward to seeing some unique designs. Please let me know if you plan to work on this project and if there might be more info that you need.
thanks!

Samoyloff - We like the design. Is there anyway you could jazz up the letters a bit (faded colors or not block)?

Other Designers - We are looking forward to seeing your entries - thanks

Hi Eziey
Thanks for your entry!! I like the clean lines of this one. It definately has a professional look - which we like. I am wondering if you could redesign one so that the letters are a bit more stylized (maybe something like the C in Clinique)

Anyone else interested in joining? Just over 1 week left.
I should mention that we really want to use our logo for branding. The logo should stand out by itself so we can use it on T-shirts, hats, and other promotional items where we may not want to spell out all of our names and orthodontics. So, it needs to be recognizable from a distance and a design where people will associate the logo with our practice.
Thanks...looking forward to seeing your ideas!

i tried to capture your message...
that you want the logo should "incorporate teeth or a smile with teeth in the design, I am hoping the designs don't seem cheesy or look unprofessional - although some orthodontic offices only treat children and have a kid-type feel to them, our office caters to both adult and children and has a more sophisticated feel."
..and should also memorable..

Hi everyone,
We are pleased with the responses

Samoyloff - We really like the entry with the gradient effect in the lettering (eh101a) - it gives a little depth to them. We also like the subtleness/simplicity of the actual braces within the smiling lips. A variation on that design we were thinking might be to flip the smile horizontally and have the wire/braces run directly throught the middle of the E, H and L. Then the smile portion could be shadowed behind the letters or within the letters using a gradient to have the smile in them. Let me know if this is unclear.... I will search the web for some examples of this if needed.

Eziey -
We like your entry (eziey 2) and were wondering what it would look like if you inverted the curved surface (so that it doesn't look like a frown but rather a smile). Also , would there be a way to have the letters stand out a bit more - add a second color, a shadow or a gradient effect?
Thanks

Bogglins - Thanks for entering the contest. Your definitely included the design elements we asked for, however we thought it looked like the mouth was eating or getting ready to chew the letters. We were wondering if you could change the design to have the teeth together (as if the mouth was just smiling rather than eating) and then having the letters somewhere else. The smile/braces could be a small portion of the overall design with the letters taking the predominant role or the smile braces being the majority of the design and the letters being smaller - we'll leave it up to your creativity.

Other designers - Another idea one of us had was to create a design by merging the letters together (similar to the T and W of Tiger Woods logo).

Thanks for all of your designs they are great. We are looking forward to seeing more additions

Hi Drew,

Sorry, but I don't think this idea will work. Here's something I tried - and letters got lost, the whole logo is too busy and ugly now. Sorry.

Thanks for the feedback,
Alex.

Hi Alex
You are right. It does look too busy, especially with the pink portions in between the letters - it does make it hard to see the letters.
After looking again at your other designs again, we like eh101, but we were wondering if you could change the pink portion of the lips to the same blue or a lighter shade of blue.
Thanks again for trying out our idea on this last one!
Drew

designers -
sorry for not being able to reply for a while... I was away from the office for a few days.
Anyway,
Alex - thanks for giving us the design in one color. Although we have seen many iterations of this same design... it is just not happening for us. We really like the work you have done for other projects, but now we realize we would prefer to have designs that don't have teeth and smiles in them. We think they seem a bit unprofessional for our type of office. So having said that we hope we can still have you submit a new design or two - see the general comments in the next posting for the direction we would like to see the designs go in.
eziey - we really like the simplicity and clean lines of your designs, and now we are wondering if you could combine the design of your 1st submission with the gradient effect of the 4th submission.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi designers,
After reviewing the designs thus far we realize that we really want to focus on our 1st idea - the incorporation of a logo with just our initials (without smiles, or braces) We think this type of design would look more professional for our type of office. However, we still want something that is clever and stands out.
I have attached a few pictures of logos that we think look professional, are clever, and have a simple/clean design. These will give you some ideas of what we are after. We also like the designs eziey has given us.
Looking forward to seeing your ideas.
Thanks

The idea behind this composition lies in the meaning of interaction.

Thanks for joining in Galin!!
This is the type of new direction we want the designs to go in.
I really like the concept of interaction. In order for our patients to get the best care, we really have to work together and have great TEAMWORK!!

Any one else thinking about contributing designs??
We may extend the deadline now that we have narrowed our scope of possible designs.

Thanks for joining in Jason,
We are going to extend our deadline... see next posting
In regard to your design, the toothbrush figure isn't working for us.... we like the fact that you created a unique design with the letters themselves (something that we would like to see more of). However we would like to be able to "visualize" each letter a little bit more clearly... we are not sure if some type of shadowing might help (as in the "eaton", "iti" or "kmpg" logos I attached last time. Also we think that the backwards E might be a bit too confusing for some people to realize what it is. Let us know if you might have some other ideas or if you can improve upon this one.
thanks

Hi Designers,
Just wanted to let you all know that we are going to extend our deadline to July 8th. We are doing so because we realize that we don't want obvious smiles or braces in the final design of our logo (something abstract or very subtle might be ok). Anyway, we attached a few ideas of some logos we liked a few posts back, and hopefully, this can help you all come up with ideas.
Thanks again for all the good ideas so far.

thanks Jason - We like the idea... we were wondering though what it looks like with the colors inverted (right now it seems hard to distinguish the E) We thought inverting the colors might help (or you might have a better solution.
Thanks, Andrew

Jason - Is there any way the logo in message #32 can be altered so that the white portions are blue and the blue portions are white (invert the colors)? We would love to see what it would look like because right now it is difficult to see that the E is really an E.
Thanks

Hi Eziey,
We liked your 5th design the best. We were wondering if we could see it without the tagline "advanced care for the whole family", but have it centered with the text on the side. In addition. We were wondering if we could see it with the three blocks and letters looking more square than rectangular (shorter and fatter). thanks,
Drew

thanks eziey,
would there be any way to have 4 images all posted together so that we can compare them?? We were hoping to see image #5 as it is currently posted, image #5 without the "advanced orthodontics...." tagline, image #7 as it is posted currently, and image #7 with the "advanced orthodontics.... " tagline.
Thanks so m uch for your help!!! I hope this makes sense.

Thanks Eziey,
We like the more rectangular looking letters (thanks for working on the other ones). Although we like number 11, we now realize that there is no way to tell if we are orthodontists (only Drs.). So we were wondering if you might be able to make a design where instead of completely omitting the tagline, just putting in ORTHODONTICS (so it would read "EHL ORTHODONTICS" with the "ORTHODONTICS" listed underneath the 3 letters. I hope I am describing this well enough for you. We weren't sure whether it would look better with the same font as the present tagline, or if it would look better with all capital letters (the same as the "DRS. ELLENIKIOTIS, HARNER,....") we will leave it up to your good judgement.
Thanks Eziey,
Andrew

Hi Eziey,
Thanks.. it looks great. I think we are ready to get the final versions of the logos. We are hoping that you could send both the color and black and white versions of the logos in the latest versions of illustrator, photoshop, and jpeg formats. In addition, we are hoping that you could send versions 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. I know we are asking alot, but could you also make a version #12 but with the more square blocks. Thanks you so much. Please let me know if I am asking too much!!
Thanks again,
Drew

HELP~!!
I Eziey... I was in the process of getting business cards printed with out new logo and realized there was a spelling error. On the versions of the logo that have the tagline "Advanced Orthodontic Care for the Entire Family" the word "Orthodontic" is misspelled!! The correct spelling is "Orthodontic" not "Orthodonthic".
Please let me know there is anything I need to do in order to have this corrected.
Thank you so much
