Hello
Could you provide us with some more info:
1) some sites that you like the look of
2) some competitors sits
3) navigation links for your site

I wanted to specify that the map is not a nessisary component to this design contest. Only the box that surrounds the map "module". For now you may put text inside the box with a stock photo - if you see fit.

I made two designs for you. Here is the first one.

Here is my second design. I thought an edgier layout would appeal to a younger group. Despite it's rigid appearance, the layout can be coded to be fluid and fill anything 1024x or larger.
Let me know if you would like to see any revisions for either design.
I'll give it a try soon :D
Hi, here is my idea. Since you have a lot of great colorfull entries I wanted to go to the academic aspect of your site. Maybe there is too much white, maybe not. It has a simple navigation and an easy to read structure. Let me know of the changes or posibilities you want to explore in the idea if it suits your needs.

No problem, Jay I'll work on the changes. All the stock photos I used came from http://www.sxc.hu/, it's a great site where all the picture have incredibly high quality and are completely free. Some require that you ask permision to the photographer but still they are free.
Note: The police officer photos came from a cd a colleague has that is from the royalty free photodisc collection. Hemera is always a good place also to find some cool images at a very low cost as well ast istockphoto.com, but on this last one the photos aren't royalty free but only for personal use, at least on the last time I checked their disclamer.
Ok, Jay here is the design updated. I think I haven't forgot anything but let me know if you want anything else to be worked :D Let me know if the fonts are too big and if the 3D are not too much.

Give me some time to figure out if we need any more changes.
Thanx Jay !! Let me know of any other change you want me to do to the design.
Since the colours in the jpg might have been ruined a little here is a png version of the site so you can see the intensity of each element: http://www.willdesigns.com.ar/lawenforcements_idea1d.png

Will,
I would like to see a few things changed/added.
Add a bottum to the site, similar to the top but instead of pictures include site links. Then fill the dead space between the modules and the bottum...
Can you make a link divider? It is a feature built into mambo that allows you to divide the links into different secions.
Jay
I added the bottom. I am afraid I'm not familiar with mambo features. :(

JayShoe

ok,
I was thinking of making the bottom more like the top without the pictures... So a line of stars / links and copyright info inside of the blue color you have been using / and then another line of stars.
Also, the lines that you have on either side of the center section dividing the links and news from the center... can be removed.
And, in the "the future belongs..." header, can you change the link from enroll now to "Watch Video".
If that works out right, I think we're done... However, can you include a copy with the text layed out like in post #32 so that the programmer knows how the doodle will look.
Thanks,
Jay Shoemaker

I guess I can just show him post # 32..... haha... let me know...
Sure, I ll make the changes and also include a coded html for the post 32 so your programmer doesn't have to figure out and simply use those files. Before I code I will upload the final version for you to review it :D
Here is the update:

Jay don't forget that I am waiting for your green light in order to make the original files :D
JayShoe
08-05-2005, 05:14 AM
Will,
Everything looks great, you can send the originals over to my e-mail or you can PM it to me. Please include the finals in .eps, and in the original. Also, can you send me the original picture files for other parts of the site?
Thanks,
Jay
No problem, I will start building the source files right now. One question: Did you mean eps or psd (photoshop) ? Also what other pictures files do you need ?
JayShoe
08-05-2005, 01:01 PM
eps, that way I can convert to psd or whatever I need... In fact can you save it as .AI also so I can look at it in Illustrator.
The stock photos used in the header and on the pages... I liked them... Can you include them?
Thank you,
Jay
Jay, these are the steps I am going to take:
1) The original file was created in Ulead Photoimpact 10 so I will export the files to keep everything in layers to Photoshop (PSD).
2) From photoshop I can export an .eps file, but I really don't know if it will keep the layers intact or will create a flat image.
3) From Adobe Illustrator you can import the .eps.
Personally I recomend you to work with the original file in Ulead Photoimpact since there you will have EVERTHING editable, from the shapes to the texts with borders, etc... Or to do it with the PSD. Adobe Illustrator is not meant to create websites but only graphic design no matter what adobe says about this. Every type of design has it's own software. Ulead Photoimpact costs u$s 90 and is as powerfull (or more) to build websites than Adobe Photoshop. Everything in my portfolio was made using photoimpact so that tells you how much I trust the software.
Nevertheless I will prepare the steps above but I wanted to tell you the risks you are running with by using the wrong software to do this type of design.
And of course I will include the full size images as well as the fonts used :D
JayShoe
08-05-2005, 05:31 PM
Ok if you get me the psd, and the photoimpact original I can do what I need with it… Don’t worry about the eps.
Are you sure that photoimpact can not export .AI?
JayShoe
08-05-2005, 05:47 PM
I can get a copy of photoimpact... just that and the psd...
E-mail or PM it... Just if you PM it tell me in here so I get notified.
THANK YOU!!!!!

Jay
Hi, Jay, sorry for the late response but didn't receive the update of this thread :P
I am afraid I prefer to do what I do best that is web design. Graphic Design is out of my area of expertise and I am sure I wouldn't be giving you 100% of what you may expect.
By the way, I was cutting the template and a doubt came to my mind. You mentioned before that you were going to put an animation in the top or a rotation of the images from the top. If that is so let me know which one is going to be so I acknowledge the best way to cut the top images to fit your needs and to let the coded html ready for your programmer.
Also will the site extend wide to the fullsize of the screen or will it have a fixed width ?
Thanx a lot for the invitation anyway. :D

Will, it's already Monday and I haven't gotten the files. I need the files ASAP so that the project continues to move forward.
Jay
They will be ready in 2 hours Jay. Sorry for the delay. I will code it so you can replace the top images with animations or whatever you need but keep the background intact.
JayShoe
08-08-2005, 11:33 AM
Actually, I appriciate you cutting it up but I don't think that we need it cut like that... My programmer will cut it up (I believe).
Jay
Ok, then in 2 minutes I'll upload the .psd and .ufo :D
plus all the images, fonts and the previous version of course.
I am uploading the files, in 11 minutes I will send you a post with the link :D
JayShoe
08-08-2005, 12:19 PM
I assume the ufo is photoimpact?
Yes, I uploaded the files and sent you a pm with the link. If you have any problem with those or need me to code the page let me know. All the information about the content of the compressed file is in a readme.txt. Also I planned to use some code for the menu that is included in a link there.
Jay the Stock Photos has been delivered also. Let me know if everything is ok.
JayShoe

Will,
No problem... You did a great job and I appriciate that...
How much of the programming do you have done? I may be able to use it if it isn't too much trouble.
Thanks again,
Jay

I found a tutourial on how to code templates into mambo and it doesn't look that hard.
If you can, I would appriciate it if you coded the template like you were going to previously and then I might be able to do it myself.
Will, if it's ok with you.
Jay
Sure Jay, no problem. It's the way I deliver the projects. :D I forgot about mambo, because I was going to use css to make the rollover of the vertical menu, so you can still keep the links editable. Anyway your programmer can replace that if he/she considers it to be a problem with mambo. I'll put hands at work immediately.

There will be no scrolling pictures...

Jay I am sending the html coded through PM. Plz. post a message here when you have received everything for the Admins control :D
Thanx again for choosing my concept :D

Hey Admins,
This project is finished...
WILL,
Man you did a great job packaging those files for me! Your design looks great in a browser too. I'll send you a link to the finished product when I'm done in like a week or so.
