(Admin code added by Michael - 3CA24904UM2209736)

Hello everyone, after a wonderfully successful logo contest, I thought I would use you all for my template as well. The logo, in vector format, can be found at:

http://www.thinkkre8tiv.com/SilverFinalLogos.zip

Anyway, this will be a simple one or two page html template for my website. I prefer (but don't necesarily require) a top, tabbed navigation. That is my preference but, by no means is it eched in stone. If you have a good idea for a sidebar navigation, by all means.

Required navigation links:

Sterling Silver Anklets
Sterling Silver Body Jewelry
Sterling Silver Bracelets
Sterling Silver Chains
Sterling Silver Charms and Pendants
Sterling Silver Earrings
Sterling Silver Necklaces
Sterling Silver Watches

There should also be an "About Us" link but not necessarily in the sidebar or tabbed navigation.

In either the left or right side of the page, there should be a box requesting the customer sign up for a coupon list.

I kinda liked the idea found here:
http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=164182&postcount=10

Where in the body of the page, there are tabs with "Categories" which in my case, of course, would be the navigational items cited above.

There should be a "My Account", "View Cart", and "FAQ" link as well (again, not necesarily in the tabbed or sidebar navigation).

Our shopping cart is an OSCOmmerce based cart, and, we would like a re-design of the Bestsellers box, New Products box, and shopping cart boxes.

All navigational items (even if it's a tabbed navigation) should be text based, for search engine optimization purposes. In other words, I don't want the words on the tabs to be jpg or gif files. A good example is:

www.unlimitedperfumes.com

Feel free to use stock photography, or custom illustrations as you see fit.

What type of information? It's a sterling silver jewelry retailer. As for colors, that's up to you as designers. I've provided you with a link to the logo, so, you can use that as a starting point. We will sell Bracelets, Necklaces, Earrings, etc...silver jewelry.

by all means, if you hve any questions, or if I've not been clear on something, please ask.

Hi, About colours, do you have any preference ? Can you provide us with a little
more information about the company ?

Thanx :D

Melissa,

I think the team has just become more used to seeing alot of the information in the updated design assessment: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7842

... in particular, URL's of designs that you find aesthetically appealing... I realize you have given a few, but we like to see as many as we can.

Also the 'detailed company information/mission' can help to set the theme (at least in my design mind).

Just a thought as to Will's reasoning in the questions. You have probably given enough to get an idea or two in ;)

Thanks,

SilverBasement
07-26-2005, 12:21 PM
To be honest, I"m pretty open to just about anything. I like the simplicity and usability of Amazon's navigation and, that's the type of site that we are looking to build.

I also liked the idea alot that I posted, from the Funny Stickers thread.

As for colors, other than the fact that they should obviously be somehow related to the logo, I really don't have a requirement either.

What other information can I give here to make it easier on you all?

SB

Lori
07-26-2005, 12:22 PM
Melissa,

I have read over the spec you have given, and think you have given enough to get designers going. Again, I think Will just was asking for a bit more 'background' and 'depth' to the company.

;)

By the way, Lori, I've taken a look at your portfolio, on your website, and, some of your work is truly magnificent. I really like the simple, yet eye catching and very user friendly types of sites you design. I also noticed you are in Coral Springs...we are in Miami Lakes, so, we are practically neighbors.

:)

I'm specifically looking for something user friendly, eye catching, yet subdued enough to be considered classy/elegant.

I know this is a bit abstract, but, I would love to see any ideas you might have.

Melissa,

Thanks for the compliments.

I can't make any promises to design however - I tend to stay overworked as of late :)

I shall be watching though!

I do know right where you live - not too far away ;)

I have a quick question that would help me in coming up with a design... Is your site to be geared more towards trendy "hip" jewelry to a younger crowd, or aiming more to an elegant, established type audience?

SilverBasement
07-26-2005, 01:37 PM
Not trendy in the least. It will be pretty standard sterling silver jewelry. The standards charms, pendants, necklaces, bracelets. Nothing trendy or anything like that. We are in fact aiming towards an elegant, established type audience.

Hope this helps.

Wow. What an amazing start to this contest. A couple of questions, and comments:

1) I absolutely LOVE the left handed navigation and the images you have used. Are the words themselves (Anklets, Body Jewelry, Bracelets, etc), images, or are they words? I'd also like the backgroung color to change, with whatever category they are in (Anklets, Body Jewelry, etc), much as in a tabbed navigation. This is for usability purposes.

2) I don't care too much for the look or placement of the shopping cart up at the top right.

3) I don't see a box for someone to sign up for the mailing list.

4) New Arrivals should be changed to something like "Deal of the Day" or "Deal of the Hour" or something to that effect.

5) Would like to see some other ideas for the top and bottom, as the little swirly thing above my logo doesn't really necessarily convince me. Also, the logo emblem should be to the left of the words as in the vector files that were posted.

6) I might, possibly want the "Best Sellers" and the "Deal of the Day" section to appear ABOVE the section that you ahve placed at the top. I'm not completely sure about that section yet.

This is a wonderful first submission. We really like the elegant, subdued look, and the beautiful layout, as well as the gorgeous images that you have chosen. Thank you SOO much.

DZiner, were you able to get the logo files, finally?

will
07-29-2005, 07:46 PM
Finally, it's done. I based the entire concept in the colours & font of the logo. I wanted to provide you with the maximum space to hold jewelry so I used a top bar. I identified each link with the characteristic element of each category. All these elements where made by myself so they are completely original. The picture of the rings are royalty free so they are meant to be used as well.

SilverBasement
07-29-2005, 08:24 PM
Another beautiful submission however, I still don't see the Mailing List Sign Up box and, let me know also if the top menu bar is text based, or graphic based, cause, as I mentioned, it needs to be text based.

Also, you used the incorrect logo also (don't worry...same colors, so it won't require anything altered) but, please download the correct logo from the link provided.

Also, is there some way to make the navigation change colors, depending on which category you are in?

Ok, to answer your question about the text based links. I know that oscommerce sites are extremely customizable, but I am not an expert by a long stretch. Yes, they can be text links which are customized with CSS. See what I mean here (http://www.yencreative.com/silver/test/test.htm)
Just a quick example, the links are text.

Here is my entry. I think I got all of your requirements in there.

I added what I think is a neat little area above the new products. I think there is common misconception among the general public about the difference between plated, sterling and fine silver and what each actually is. With the right meta tags, you could draw in even more people who are just curious about sterling silver or silver in general.

I have included a second background option as well. The black is more striking, while the lighter color is more elegant.

I didn't want to include an actual cart on the page. I don't think it's really necessary to constantly display it. However, if it is a must, it could easily be added along the left side.

If you could provide some pictures of some of the jewelry that you will be selling, that would be really helpful. I borrowed that ring image in the header from another jewelry site and wouldn't be able to use it in the final design.

SilverBasement
08-01-2005, 08:17 PM
Another EXCELLENT submission. I"m not crazy about the stock photo with the woman (I think there are probably much better, more appropriate stock photos), but, the the style is simple, elegant, and I like it alot.

I would like, in addition to the stock photo change, possibly a SLIGHTLY different type of tabbed navigation where the tab changes color depending on the category (I know you did that here), where maybe the color also borders the rest of the page.

But, another EXCELLENT submission, thank you.

SB

JeremeDavid
08-01-2005, 09:26 PM
Are you opposed to people in pictures in general, or the romance theme, or just specifically that woman?

Here is another photo with a couple.

On the note of the border. That would certainly be very easy with my design as the border would be CSS-based just like the menu.

If you don't like this current photo, could you provide me with a little direction towards what you might like to see?

I want to thank everyone for their hard work, and, I do think (still) that this is the most talented group of designers I've ever seen. As hard as it was to pick a winner, we decided to go with:

will: Post number 56 (the one with the borders).

Will, I would like to see some revisions:

There should be a "Home" tab. I don't know if that's going to make everything else too small. Maybe you can show me the tabs with AND without the little icon next to each word.

The "Mailing List" thing should be changed to read "Discoun E-Coupons."

Instead of "Offers." It should read "Featured _________" The blank should be replaced with "Anklets, Body Jewelry" etc. I probably won't put every one on the home page, but, if you could include the image in what you email me, that would be great, so taht I can change the featured category on my own, as I see fit.

The "New Arrivals" should be changed to "Deal of the Day" and, another one that is called "Hourly Specials" or "Hourly Sale Items."

I would also like a Search Box (possibly above the E Coupon List). Also, I would like to see how the tabs look with the category highlited, depending on which category you are in.

Also, please let me know if this is going to be a fixed width or a dynamic one...I don't know the technical lingo, but, you know how some sites are certain pixels wide, and others say "100%" or whatever.

SB

SilverBasement
08-09-2005, 12:34 PM
Will, one other thing that I would like to see changed. We won't be offering rings at this time (maybe in the future), so, the graphic next to the "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" could maybe be changed to a pretty silver bracelet or necklace or something of that nature.

SB

will
08-09-2005, 12:47 PM
Thanx a lot SB for choosing my concept. By now the width is fixed but if you need it to extend 100% I can work on the proper changes for that. First I will provide you with a new image for you to check everything before I start the coding (if that is ok with you :D).

Ok, some impressions:

Can I see how it would look with the color of the tabs reversed? Grey for the inactive and Blue for the active?

Also, I might like a little bit of an outline, where the color of the active tab follows, around the page, the border, similar to www.unlimitedperfumes.com doesn't need to go around the entire page, but, something that gives it a bit more structure.

Would like a few options (if you don't mind) for the graphic in the section of "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." as I'm not in love with the cross.

Excellent work, as usual.

Here is the second review. I placed a border around the design and the buttons. About the jewelry to be placed in the banner I am afraid most of the pictures that I have are from gothic jewelry that are amazing but I don't know if you want to use them. Maybe you have some picture of jewelry you are actually selling, that can be better because if somebody wants to order that you will actually be able to provide it. Also I added the Free shipping text in the top.

Don't really see the border that I'm looking for. Maybe I'm calling it a border incorrectly. What I'm looking for, is a continuation of the active tab, as in www.unlimitedperfumes.com, which will make it clearer to the user, what section they are on.

Will, you must hate me, and, I'm sorry to be so picky, but, we are going to be throwing alot of time, and alot of marketing money into this website, so, we would like it to be ABSOLUTELY perfect. I just had another idea.

You know that dark blue border that goes around the entire template? Well, I thought that maybe, from the section where the tabbed border goes, DOWN, we could change it to the same shade of blue as the tab, so that it looks like the tab, and it's color, outlines the entire site, from there down. What do you think?

And, again, thank you SOOOO much for your hard work, and sorry to be such a pain in the butt.

SB

will
08-11-2005, 05:44 AM
SB, Please don't worry at all, I understand the customer needs and will do my best to make the proper changes. Let me know if I understood well, you want that the 1 pixel border that surrounds the white background of the site uses the same colour as the highlighted blue tab ? If so, you want to increase the size of the border or keep it 1 pixel ?

SilverBasement
08-11-2005, 05:47 AM
No, I want the dark blue section that surrounds the entire site (it's more than one pixel...it's aobut an inch wide), to be the same color as the tab. I also want the section directly under the tab that your girlfriend figured out yesterday, to be a bit thicker (not TOO much thicker), and, I want the one pixel line under the tab that divides the tab from the section under it (that yout girlfriend figured out), totally removed.

What I mean is that little section directly to the left of the "Home" tab and directly to the right of the "Watches" tab, that is a different color, should be removed. And, everything BELOW that, should be the same light blue color as the part underneath the tabs, and everything ABOVE that, should be the same dark blue color that you used before.

I think that is a little clearer, right>?

Perfect, but, is there a way to make it the EXACT same color so that the tab, looks like it flows into the section below it, and that section flows into the page outline? The page outline seems to be a shade or two darker. Is there a way to make them exactly the same color?

Also, let me ask you a question. When you make this fit 100% the width of the screen, the entire blue section is going to be seen AROUND the whole website, right? How wide is that section right now? And how tall is it in the bottom? Cause I might want to make it a bit smaller so as to have more room in the main, middle section.

Another question, and, again, I can't apologize enough for being such a pain but, if in the future I wanted to add another category (like rings, for example), is it even possible, considering that the tabs are already at full width? What is your opinion on this?

Hi, SB, sorry but I had my Yoga class, couldn't missed it :D

Let me see:

1) yes, the blue background will be seen and can be reduced so it doesn't occupy so much space.

2) If in the future you want to add a category you will simply have to add a new column to the table I am going to use and it will resize automatically the site to fit your needs. Since the site was created for 800x600 but I am sure you would like to focus on 1024x768 there will be plenty space for several categories. :D

I will work on the changes tomorrow morning if it is ok with you since this was a long an exhausting day but I promise I won't let the morning go away without a new review ;D

No problem at all. But, when you say that the site is for 800x600, I don't know if I like that. I would like the site to be dynamic in size, rather than a fixed size. Not sure if I'm using the right lingo, but, instead of the 800x600, I want it to be 100%. Is that alright?

SB

will
08-11-2005, 06:26 PM
Of course it will be 100%, what I meant was that what I am posting has that size but if you consider that what you are seeing is the smaller it can be, 100% will leave you a lot of free space to place a good quantity of new tabs :D

aweseome...thanks...I am really excited about this and I absolutely love your designs...I'm excited to get the website live, and, if you ever need a reference, please feel free to give out my information (I will email it to you once we are done so that you can give it out if you ever need it).

Ok, figured it out. It was missing the "S" in designs.

Will, this is perfect, except I would like the background boarder around the page to be SLIGHTLY thinner, so as to not use up that much good, valuable space. What you can do is cut it in half (if it's 50 pixels on each side, make it 25 on each side).

That looks perfect. We can go ahead and finalize this design, as we said, dynamically sized to 100%. As we had talked about, I would like the "Feature Anklets" sections to come one in each of the categoreis, so that I can insert them as I see fit.

I'd also like a "Deals of the Day" and "Hourly Specials" option for the left, as well as the same options for the center of the page, in case I choose to put it there in the future.

Looks like we are finished, and, I want to thank you for your hard work.

Cool, I will also add coded html versions with some extra buttons so in the case you need to add a new tab your programmer will always have a reference on how to do it.

Ok, then, it's who must thank you again for choosing my idea. I will start coding and surely by tomorrow you will have the final files right into your PM :D

Take care,

A couple of little, tiny, minor things. The tabs at the very top should read:

"Policies","Contact Us","My Account","View Cart"

Will, you are going to kill me, but, my wife noticed something. I like the look of the highlited tab in post number 95. But you changed it later. I would like the same highlited tab as in number 95, with the other sections being changed to match the tab. I think what you did was you changed the tab to match the other sections.

Please let me know and, I'm sorry again.

SB

Mmmm, I don't know if I can make it look like you want. The tab there has a spot light that makes it look so cool, but if you want me to integrate it into the rest of changes you requested then I will have to change that spotlight and sooner or later the rest will be affected coming closely to our last change.

Let me give it a try and I will let you know what are the posibilities :D

note: and don't worry at all, I understand perfectly that everything has to be perfect :D

SilverBasement
08-12-2005, 06:52 PM
You can leave the tab, and the underneath section to the tab the same. The only thing I want you to change is the section around the entire page, to match the section under the tab.

SB

SB, really I am lost on what you are requesting. If you can be nice and explain me again what you liked and what you want me to change all in one post and with the number of the thread you are refering to, I will make the proper changes to reflect that but got really confused on what to do next :P

SilverBasement
08-12-2005, 08:08 PM
Ok, go to post number 95. Keep the look of the highlited tab, and the color of the section underneath the tab, but, the order that goes around the sides should be changed to match the color of the section underneath the tab. Let me know if this makes sense.

You got it, but, I want it to flow perfectly so, I need you to remove the little dividing line that divides the sides of the template fom the section underneath the tab. I want it to flow smoothly.

Wow, I never thought this would be so difficult. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong in explaining this.

The colors are PERFECT but it needs to flow perfectly.
