Hello all, it's time for another contest. This will be a full page, full color magazine advertisement for a new product we're releasing, called The Print Audit Rapid Assessment Key.
The full brochure can be viewed here:
http://www.printaudit.com/downloads/pdf/Rapid_Assessment_Key_Brochure.pdf
Please use colors similar to the brochure.
The content for the ad can be found here:
http://www.printaudit.com/RAK_ad.doc
As you can see by the heading, we want this ad to be an attention grabber. Make this heading stand out. We do not want to make the ad too risqu้ however, so please do not use pictures or women or anything of that nature.
We really want to highlight the fact that the key is easy to use and that it does not require any software or hardware installation.
A picture of the of the key, a screenshot and an eps version of the logo can be found here:
http://www.printaudit.com/RAK_graphics.zip
The picture of the key should be used prominently. Unfortunately I do not have it in a higher resolution.
The dimensions of the ad should be:
W 8.5 x H 11.125
Deadline: August 7. This deadline cannot be extended. Please join ASAP. I may close the contest before then if there's an ad I like.
Thanks!
Here's one from MOZ...not sure if bleed is ok? Can be fixed without too

I'm not crazy about using purple. I'd rather stick close to our colors in the brochure. Also, I would make the picture of the key more prominent. I don't like the picture of the guy either. I don't mind use a picture of a happy person/people, but I would use something a litttle more subtle. It should be full bleed, so that part is fine. Thanks.

Hi folks, it's time for feedback.
Imot, your design is too plain. I'd prefer you used the picture of the women inserting the key.
Brainstorm, good start. Leave it as is for now. I want to see what else comes along.
Graphix, pretty good, but I'm not crazy about the green blocks and the bottom part of the ad is too plain.
Thanks.

Hi Trevor!
Is there anything else to be done or it's ok as it is?
Also, could you tell me what time zone are you in? Just to be sure when is the deadline. :)
Thanks in advance.
Best regards.

Trevorh, I was going to try to enter but I don't think I have enough time to get something in. I will try but I cannot promise you I will have something in. Also what time zone are you in?

Brainstorm, I have some minor changes to make, I was going to wait until after I pick a winner. I'm not sure if I want to keep the screenshot, is it large enough to be readable in your design?
I'm in Canada, Mountain Time.

Well, screenshot looks pretty sharp at 300dpi, 100%.
It's about 3.5'' wide on the page so I'm not sure how readable it will be (lots of tiny letters and numbers), but the general layout of the program screen is visible, so it's ok, as far as I can tell.
I'm not sure if it is even intended to actually read all the data on the screenshot. I thought that it's there to give readers a general feel of the working area.
Even the picture of key (and it's really low res) looks very decent. I was worried that it will be terrible because of the size and resolution, but it's ok.
If you have any further questions or comments feel free to ask. :)
My time is GMT+2 so it's 03.20 AM Sunday. :weep:

Hi, here are the changes:
- Change the 'Instantly collect readings...' sentence to 'Automatically discovers'
Change the bullets under that section to the following:
IP Address
Device Description
Life Page Count
Color Count
Serial Number
Color / Monochrome Identification
Device Status
Toner Levels
Asset Number
Location
And much more
- Remove the screenshot from the picture and fill that space by making by making the Benefits and Automically discovers text a litte bigger.
Change the sentences under the picture of the key to this:
The Print Audit Rapid Assessment Key is an extrememly easy to use USB device that quickly collects data on networked imaging devices.
The key operates without installing any software or hardware, allowing you to assess or troubleshoot document output fleets in minutes!
In the picture of the key, if you look at the usb port to the right of where the key is inserted there's a long hair that runs to the right of the computer. Can you try to remove that?
Thanks.

I forgot one more thing. Can you put a bit of a space between No software or hardware installation required and Extremely easy to use in that silver star. Thanks.

Hi Trevor.
When I make those changes, do you want me to post layout here for you to approve or do you just need prepress file to be uploaded immediately?
Best regards.

We have time about 15 hours before i need to submit the file so we're ok. The lower right side looks a little bit empty now. I would reverse the position of Benefits and Automatically discovers lists since there is more room on the lower right hand side and the Automically Discovers list is longer. Then try increasing the font size and spacing between the items in the lists to fill in more space.
Put a bit larger of a space between the 2 sentences under the picture.
Thanks.

I thought of reversing Benefits and Automatically...but I wasn't sure that it's allowed.
I'll post the new layout soon.

Better, but still needs some tweaking. I would move benefits up to align it with the Automatically Discovers heading. Of course that'll leave more space below to fill so you'll have to increase the font and spacing to make up for that. You can remove Asset Number and Location from the Automatically Discovers section, that'll let you increase the font on the right side too. Also, can you bullet the list items with a white square or circle?
Thanks.

No problem.
I thought you will need vector file (Illustrator EPS) but, it's ok.
Do we need bleed for this one, because it's full page?
I can make it anyway and if it's not needed, they can tweak it in the magazine.
Waiting for the feedback.
Best regards.

Yes build in the bleed. The ad specs say this: W 8.5 x H 11.125

You can make the benefits and automatically sections a bit smaller again and then below the Benefits points put in big and bold:
Low, one-time fee for unlimited usage.
