Hello! After the great job on my business card (here's the <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8484&page=1&pp=30">link</a> ), I'm back for an advertising postcard design. Two sides, full color both sides (or black only on the addressee side, but I wanted you to have the option of color, because the printing cost difference is not all that great.

I'll include a copy of my business card as an attachment to this post (I can send you the actual file which I received as an attachment, if you want it) I'd like my business card to be incorporated into the postcard, with a dotted line (i.e. cut it out and save it). You don't HAVE to go with this idea, its just one way I thought I might include a business card, which is otherwise hard to do with a postcard!

Here is a <a href="http://www.amsdirectnw.com/postcards.html">link</a> to an explanation of postal requirements for postcards.

I'd like the postcard to be 4" x 6", and this is what I'd like the postcard to say:

No Sloppy Wall Patches!

Bakersfield Wall & Ceiling Repair - for professional wall patches that don't look like a patch!

Open-Wall Surgery? Better see the patch-ologist!
Plumbers, electricians, HVAC and cable installers know that sometimes you just have to open up a wall to run a pipe, duct, wire, or make a repair. Tell the customer not to panic - it can all be put back together seamlessly. Just call Bakersfield Wall & Ceiling Repair, and let the healing begin!

Hole in the ceiling unappealing?
A mis-step in the attic can be hard on the shins, nerves, and the ceiling below! We can't do much for your shins and your nerves - BUT we can fix the ceiling like it never happened! We'll do a professional job, in a timely manner, and clean up after ourselves. Just knowing that is a little calming to the nerves, wouldn't you say?

Property managers and rental owners love us too!

Hole in the wall? Give us a call! (555) 835-0623

Bakersfield Wall & Ceiling Repair - "when the patch has to match"
lic.583000 since 1989

Visa & Mastercard accepted

I don't have any pictures, so any pictures you provide will be used.

I haven't received my business cards yet from 4bizprint.com, but their communication and response has been great so far, so I'm planning on using them for the postcards also. Here is the <a href="http://www.4bizprint.com/faq.php?action=display_faq&faq=2">link</a> to their file requirements:

Like the business card design, I want this to stand out (i.e. be "eye-catching", or "dynamic"), so that it doesn't get tossed in the trash with the rest of the junk mail. I like a little 3D effect, and was very pleased with the logo handling on the business card, for that reason.

My return address for the card is:
Bakersfield Wall & Ceiling Repair
6613 Peggy Way
Bakersfield, Calif. 93307

This card will be mailed out to electrical, plumbing, and HVAC (air-conditioning) contractors, and cable installers. I can probably condense the text some if you find it crowds the card too much.

The deadline for this project is September 12th.

May I cancel this offer and get my money refunded if there is no interest in my project? I think a printer could probably do the layout for me, if need be, to get my cards printed. Thanks.

This project has been posted eleven days without one entry. Is there something wrong with this project that I'm not aware of?

what picture would you like to be put in the design?.. any reference?

bogglins
09-09-2005, 07:45 AM
is this one sided post card?.. what is the size? 4"x6" or 4.25"x6"?
any bleed requirement?

Huckleberry

4x6, two sides, http://www.amsdirectnw.com/postcards.html for description of postcard parameters, no bleed requirements I'm aware of http://www.4bizprint.com/faq.php?action=display_faq&faq=2.

Picture? How about your hand-holding-the-business-card picture, put a broken line around the card with a little scissors icon? Maybe a picture of a doctor - holding a plumber's wrench - for "open wall surgery"?

Or a picture of a foot sticking though a ceiling for "hole in the ceiling unappealing?" - I'm sure you creative types can morph up some graphic images to buttress the text (thanks for showing up, btw).

Here are some picture ideas (these pics can't be used, as they are not mine, but I'm only using them to show ideas).

<a href="http://www.fotosearch.com/ISI106/decde019/">link</a> to picture of plumber's hole in wall ("open wall surgery")

<a href="http://www.bluishorange.com/ceiling.html">link</a> to picture of hole in the ceiling ("hole in the ceiling unappealing")

<a href="http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/GeneralManager?&catalog_id=2000000003844&design=clean&language=en&action=GetProduct&page=ProductDetail&product_id=1000939025&action=GetPoint&point_id=3000000167160">link</a> to picture of the type of tool (reciprocating saw) that would typically be used by a plumber or electrician to make a hole in the wall. This type of image could be used with "open wall surgery".

<a href="http://www.homestore.com/hs_media/images/homegarden/homeimprovement/howtos/howtos/chele170fig7.jpe">link</a> - this type of pic could accompany the text where it says "sometimes you just have to open up a wall to run a pipe, duct, wire, or make a repair"

Just a few suggestions, as I said, I'm open to your creative input. I don't own any images myself.

Thanks for your interest in my project.

<a href="http://www.photostogo.com/store/Chubby.asp?ImageNumber=531824">link</a> to doctor photo. (for "open wall surgery") - could you take a pic like this, and add a plumber's wrench or reciprocating saw, like the doctor is holding it? Its OK if it looks faked, that could even make it funnier. Just an idea, seems like this is a hard one for everyone.

are you sure want to include the business card in the design?.. the business card size itself is around 2"x3.5" (don't remember)..
this will take much of design space..

My first try, sorry about the late entry but it was difficult finding images.

Pieter - I like the idea of including the bus. card, its not mandatory. Its just one way of encouraging them to keep my phone#, since most construction offices have bus. card files, but not postcard files.

Cazeyman - late entry? You're the first! Sorry about the images, if I had known it was going to cause such a problem I would have held off until I could include some digital pics from my jobs. I guess I was hoping you could get creative with something from your files. Any way, thanks for the entry, I may have a few suggestions but gotta run right now, I will get back to you on it.

yeah, actual pics would be helpful, I would like to do a version with maybe multiple pics if possible, i just couldn't find anything I liked.
_thanks again

Cazeyman - Forget multiple pics, your entry is fine - I like it! Just needs a little fine-tuning. Could you do the scissors and dotted line in white instead of black (maybe make the line a little thinner). Could you make the picture and the red band go from edge to edge (eliminate the 3-d shading on top of the red band). The red band could also go down the right side of the card, to fill that space in.

Also, do you have an icon for Visa and Mastercard you could work in there by "Visa & Mastercard accepted"? On the back you can eliminate "Bakersfield Wall & Ceiling Repair, for professional wall patches that don't look like a patch" under "no sloppy wall patches". And the blue paragraphs with the red subtitles - just start the blue text on the same line as the red subheading, don't start a new line for them.

Lets try that - and I think we're on the way!

Huckleberry

cazeyman - very nice! Could you make the name "Bakersfield Wall & Ceiling Repair" a little smaller on the back side, so that you could make the text in the two paragraphs a little larger? Thanks!

Anyone else have an entry?
