This probably won't be the most creatively challenging contest but we need a logo for a small mortgage company looking for a professional image that can grow with them. See details below.

Logo Creative Brief Worksheet

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Initials - FMS
Company name - First Mortgage Source
Logo with an without tagline – America’s First Source for Mortgages

What type of product or service do you offer?
Residential mortgages

How long have you been in business?
Since 1998

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
New company name and logo; the goal is a rebranding that will won’t alienate previous and current customers but will establish the company as a stronger force in the mortgage market

What are your long term goals?
To grow the business to become the primary resource for credit challenged borrowers

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience.
The audience is wide. The company works as a preferred lender for several builders and also specializes in helping homebuyers with credit challenges. The typical borrower is fairly low-tech and generally works in the service industry. There is also a large number of minority clients.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
The goal would be to attract potential homebuyers especially those that may not realize they can qualify for a home while conveying a professional image,

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
The logo should be a design that highlights the company name and the acronym and incorporates an image that relates to the mortgage industry.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
The current logo for the company is blue on white. So we may want to keep the same color scheme so as not to confuse our current customers during the transition but we are definitely open. However, these should be conservative colors (deep purple, blue or green)

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Some sort of image of a house or anything else that strongly associates the company with residential mortgages. I prefer not to use dollar signs. Again, I’m open to creative ideas.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
The logo should reflect a professional company that is well-established and in business for the long haul (this business sees a lot of fly-by-night operations).

What is your tagline or slogan?
America’s First Source for Mortgages

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Our company can help all types of borrowers and should be the starting point in the search for home financing.

Where will your new logo be used?
Website and business cards (and potentially other promotional materials)

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Many of the competitors logos are simplistic and cheaply designed. We understand the value of a professional logo can create an image that conveys professionalism and longevity in the business.

List competitive URLs if possible
http://www.ctxmort.com/
http://www.national-mortgage.net/
http://www.fmlending.com/
http://www.cimginc.com/welcome.php
http://www.charterfunding.com/

What sets you apart from your competitors?
Being able to find loan products that other companies can’t find to help credit challenged borrowers get financing for a new home. Also, ensuring that someone is always available to help them and serving as a financial counselor.

I'm worried that perhaps my first post was too lengthy. We are really in need of a simple logo for a small mortgage company.

It needs to simply include the company name First Mortgage Source and either include or highlight the letters FMS.

Not picky on colors or fonts. I had a thought on the logo being embedded within a home outline. But other more creative ideas are welcome.

My only restriction was that we use conservative colors like a rich or deep blue, green, or purple. Think financial.

Please help!!!

Liz - thanks for kicking things off.

Your design reflects what I was thinking but I'm not sure how I feel about it now. A few thoughts - can we somehow make the FMS letters not cut off? Perhaps a different house design or a different font. You chose a very standard font but I'm not opposed to something more creative.

Also, the blue is good but the gray is a little drab. Can you think of another way to add some color?

Thanks,
Fadra

Taldo - this has a nice clean conservative but modern feel. I actually think my client will like this one. Do you have any other ideas for incorporating the "1"? It just feels a little awkward in this design. Also, I'd like to see a few other color choices just for comparison. One of the reviewers thought the "FMS" got a little lost. Maybe space it our a bit or provide more contrast?

Thanks,
Fadra

How about something clean and simple..

Taldo - I would actually like this better if we maybe dropped the "1" altogether. Is there something else you could incorporate into the house design if we drop that?

I'll be showing this to a client tomorrow and have additional feedback for you then. Thanks!!!

DesignGeneral - thank you for both submissions.

Nice use of color in both. I might have some suggested color changes after I show my client.

I like the first design but fear it might be a little too abstract for the crowd we are working with (althought it might be something we would be interested in for some other logo work we plan to do). I see an "F" in the design but I'm not sure if that's intentional or not (I think it is) but I'm having a hard time relating to the rest of the design.

The second design is a nice play on the house idea and incorporating an "M" for mortgage. Other than some other color possibilities, this looks good.

Thanks,
Fadra

Taldo - I like the additional color. Can you make a few final changes for review? I'd like to see a color other than orange - client requests RED.

Also, highlight the word Mortgage instead of First.

Thanks - this looks great!

Tonya - thanks for the entry. I like the idea but find the the graphic and lettering looks a little modern while the company name looks more traditional. Can you try for a more consistent look? Also, I wouldn't mind seeing just a little more color or contrast.

Thanks,
Fadra

DesignGeneral - I like this design but fear your roof peaks look too much like mountains.

Could remove the second peak, center the first peak over FMS and add an additional vertical line to frame the letters?

Thanks,
Fadra

i played with your company name.. "first" mortgage source..
the roman symbol of first is "I"
and used the colors that make it looks like a professional and credible company...

Bogglins - very nice design. This looks great for a bank but may be a bit too formal for the small mortgage company. I'll definitely pass along to the client.

Thanks,
Fadra

Thank you for everyone who entered a design. We were so pleased with all of the entries.

The best fit for us right now and the winning design is...

Taldo - Version 5

I'll be starting another logo contest soon and hope to see you there!

Fadra
