Hello DO Team,

This is Eran from DeCalo Fashion back at you with another logo project. My first experience exceeded all expectations so I had to come back for more!!! This new project is for a person very near and dear to me, my fiance Kristen and her sister Delayne, so don't let me down ;) Here go the details:

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo? Powdered Sugar Shoppe

What type of product or service do you offer? Unique, upscale, hand-made, and personalized children’s Décor and fashions.

How long have you been in business? Start-up

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? A whimsical, distinctive, posh brand.

What are your long term goals? To establish a successful business whose identity is memorable!

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience. Our customer base is A-List clientele. In other words, moms with expensive taste and deep pockets!

Who would you like to add to your audience? We would like to attract retail boutiques and other online websites.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? Whimsical, chic, posh, upscale, memorable.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?) Pastels, light pink, baby blue, lavender, green, etc. Anything BUT bold primary colors!

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? We don't have a particular image in mind but perhaps someone can incorporate a sack of powdered sugar, but we are open to anything… A fairy wand sprinkling powdered sugar, a ribboned wall hanging with the logo on it are some other ideas we've had…

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? That we are an upscale, chic, trendy, distinctive, unique, and professional.

What is your tagline or slogan? We don't currently have a tagline.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience? We want them to feel like they have to have our items!

Where will your new logo be used? On our online store (website), business cards, letterhead, labels, etc.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Anna’s Gift Gallery- www.annasgiftgallery.com too plain
Smartie Britches- www.smartiebritches.com don’t like the doll
My Retro Baby- www.myretrobaby.com like color scheme and font
Rosenberry Rooms- www.rosenberryrooms.com like font, don’t like designs
Polkadots and Moonbeams- www.polkadotsonline.com too plain
Baby Bee Mine- www.babybeemine.com font too plain, like the bee, like the .com
Dimples and Dandelions- www.dimplesanddandelions.com don’t like font, not whimsical enough, not a memorable logo
Toddleposh- www.toddleposh.com like the fonts, don’t like the colors

What sets you apart from your competitors? We can offer a greater variety in each category. We offer more personal choices, unlike our competitors, our designs are cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. From our product to our packaging, the presentation is more appealing. We use top quality materials on every design, and do not outsource our work, so everything is done to perfection. We are not a mass production shop, everything we send out has our own personal touch.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: Distinctive

Here are my ideas for this.

Kellyportfolio- Thanks for kicking this project off with a fabulous submission. We really do not like the blue oval, or the brown color. We really love the font used in the bottom right one in pink. We would liike to see it used in the logo directly above it, with a bow added to the can, and to the top of the plaque to make it look like a wall hanging. We would like a more whimsical bow, the one used all the way on top is too stiff and formal. Could you make the font bolder so that it will really pop against the green background? We can't wait for your revisions.

Hi! Here is the logo revised. I did use a slight drop shadow behind it to make it "pop". Let me know what you think. :D

Kellyportfolio- Thanks for those changes. The wall hanging is nice, but we think it would look better (more functional for a website, letterhead, business cards, etc), against a plain white background, similar to what you first did with this font. We do like the powdered sugar sprinkling on the words, rather than standing next to it. Thanks a lot, we can't wait to see the changes!

Here are the changes. I reverted back to the way it was when it was first done, I changed the sugar canister so it was sprinkling on the words.

Let me know what you think. If you'd rather, I can change the words layout so it is back to the way it was in the example above.

:D

Kellyportfolio- Thanks for making those changes! I think it is much better when it is free-standing. Can you play around with the words, possibly put only "Powdered" on the first line and move the can up? We would also love to see other pastel color variations, such as lavendar. Thanks for all your hard work!

Kellyportfolio-Version 2- Thanks for showing us the changes, but I think we like the pinks better, it pops more. Can you shrink down the word "Sugar," it just seems too overpowering. And, although our name sounds like we sell candy, we don't, and therefore don't want to emphasize the "sugar" too much. We do like the use of outlining, can you try that with a dark pink and light pink, or a purple/pink combo, or even pink/baby blue? We don't love the green bow though, stick with pink. We are really impressed with everything you have done so far, thanks a lot!

Paula-We really like the way you put all the letters in blocks in Version 1, especially with the light pink/dark pink combo, but we don't just sell to girls, so could you play around with the colors a bit? We also would like to see some kind of icon, perhaps a fairy wand, powdered sugar sack, or can, or anything else that you think would fit with our brand. We love the font in Version 2 with the boxes underneath. Can you try to add something a little more whimsical, perhaps the checked boxes in a swirl pattern, or make it into a wand. We love the stars above! Thank you for your submission, this is really starting to look like what we are trying to portray!

Thanks Kelly and Paula! We really want to thank you for all the interest you have shown. We would like to know if any other designers are working on a submission as our deadline is approaching. All entries are welcome! We love looking at this stuff!

Kellyportfolio- Thanks for the color variations. We really like the words on three separate lines, and the blues, purples and pinks. We like the wand, but prefer the powdered sugar can instead.

Paula- Version 3- We love the idea of the sack, but it looks too much like a pot of gold. We don't like the green and gold color combo at all.
Version 4- love it, but softer, pastel colors are necessary. Also, when it is in black and white and smaller, it is difficult to read, is there any way to make it more legible?
Version 5- Again, we love it, but the colors have to be pastel. Can you try a pink and green combo? Also, the pot needs to be more like a sack made of cloth, rather than a hard pot. We'd like to see a heart instead of a star, with a PS in it on the sack. These revisions that you have submitted really look great!

Paula- Wow! You blew us away!
Version 7- Love it!! Can you add the sack from version 8 to this, take the heart off, and replace with the PS blocks on it instead?
Version 8-Love it!! Can you shrink down the word "sugar"; it seems too powerful and screams Candy, not decor
Version 9-We are leaning more towards a combo of 7 and 8.
Thank you so much, this gets better each time you post!!

Hi Paula,
You gave us so many awesome choices, we're confused!! We are trying to decide between Version 10 and Version 12. We love the blocks in Version 10, but we think the bag might be too much with it. We really love the heart bag though. Is there something we could do with the scoop? We don't love the shape, maybe just nix it all together, close the bag and tie it with a bow, maybe to look like raffia? (sp?) Maybe we're driving you crazy, we're sorry!!!

Hi,
Here is a combination of the 2 designs.
I agree, it looks better without the scoop ( less busy)
and ties with a bow.
I'll be happyto make any firther revisions :)

Thanks,Paula

okay, Paula, it's us crazy indecisive whackos again. LOVE the bag! but, we think it goes better with the other font. Can you just put the new bag next to the other font? Also, we would like to use the heart with the stitching as our signature, stand-alone icon. We just love it! Could we also see the bag a hair smaller? We don't want it to be too overpowering. Thanks so much! :D

Paula - We sorry about not replying sooner. The truth of the matter is that we're absolutely torn! On the one hand, we love the powdered sugar bag, on the other, we also love the block letters but the two don't seem to go together. What to do, what to do. Perhaps you can shed some light on which of the two designs you like more? We are leaning towards Version 14, but many of our friends say they like 13 better. What do you think? Why did you have to make it so difficult for us to choose? You are too good at this!

Paula23
09-15-2005, 10:29 PM
I guess if I had to choose, I would go with version 14 mainly because it's much simpler and still retains the "heart swatch" as a stand alone icon. If I were going to go with version 13 ,I would drop the bag and leave the letters/squares as a 2 color logo.
If you would like to see any variations of these ideas let me know :)

Thanks,Paula

Hi Paula,
We decided to go with version 14. We like the bag with the gradient/glow (the top one) and love the heart. We were wondering if the font you used in the logo is something we could get access to, as we might want to use it as a branding tool throughout our website. What file formats will you be providing us the logo in? Can we have it in both EPS and PSD? Ultimately, we want our designers to be able to retro fit (resize, change colors, etc.) the logo for different applications and uses. Thanks so much, we really love your work.
