(Admin code added by Palmer - 40B03347NA817003N)

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

BATH GEMS™ will be included. I would like a graphic added that will be 1) simple 2) clean 3) identify the products we carry

Ideally this means that BATH GEMS™ plus the image will readily identify that we provide bathroom fixtures to a degree that we will not need to say BATH GEMS™ FIXTURES ADD BRILLIANCE but rather BATH GEMS™ ADD BRILLIANCE

What type of product or service do you offer?

Bathroom fixtures including curved shower rods, faucets, vessel sinks, and vanities. We import these products from China and the common ingredient is that they are trendy eye candy. Please visit our site at www.BathGems.com and/or stores.ebay.com/bathsafetyplus

How long have you been in business?

Since 1990

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

I want to have a clean logo that will be easy to associate with our products and will convey the idea that our products are metro-cool.

What are your long term goals?

To have something simple enough that it can last through whatever iterations our business takes.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

Do-it-yourself homeowners. We are naturally attracting wholesale customers because of our prices so that is why I now want to have a brand that carries with the product that is not necessarily our company name (Bath Plus)

Who would you like to add to your audience?

Everyone.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

I want BATH GEMS™ to be associated with design and style.
Maybe a Euro association.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

Black and white invokes a Crate & Barrel sort of trendiness. I am also partial to royal blue which invoke a water theme.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

Not really but I dont think anyone should go overboard associating gemstones or a gem theme into the logo as the association is really only tangential as in both are beautiful.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

As stated, metro-Euro-trendy

What is your tagline or slogan?

Add brilliance

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

You dont need to know trendy to be assured of getting trendy with a BATH GEMS™ product.

Where will your new logo be used?

Within my listings on Ebay and our website. Also, on our product packages as we switch from the manufacturers generic package designs to our own. Finally on postcards sent with our orders.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

www.homeclick.com ,other Ebay sellers, Moen, Grohe

What sets you apart from your competitors?

We are importers so we sell cheaper than our online competitors. Also, instead of taking a shotgun approach to inventory we only carry what is "cool".

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Providers of affordable cool

Finally, please go to http://www.bathgems.com/productpoll.html and take my poll.

Thanks,

Steven

I wanted to add that I am usually partial to the early entries that I can give some feedback to for revisions. So dont wait until the end of the project to make your entry.

Steven

P.S. Please go to http://www.bathgems.com/productpoll.html and take my poll.

Hi Steven,

Here are a couple of design concepts for you. The first one is more reflective of the inventory you sell and the second is more meant to communicate quality fixtures.

If you like the designs, but would like to see any revisoons, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you,

Dave

Your icebreaking submission makes this drama-client very happy.

I would like the image aspect of the logo to 1) be very simple 2) maybe be more abstract 3) be in a line drawing style (i.e. monotone with the text)

Here is sort of what I am looking for. The top one is a poor attempt to conjure up the form of a sink. The bottom one is a pathetic attempt to create a deco, minimalist, abstract faucet line drawing.

I will expect much better from you professionals. :wizard:

Hi Steve, here´s a BG merged in a fluid and elegant way. Please, if possible, i would like to see your comments about it.

Thanks,

Henrique

Hi Henrique,

I agree that it is fluid and elegant. It reminds me of a logo for haircare products though, like Loreal. I am not sure I see the B and G. But it is more like an archetype logo like I am looking for. Can you try for a bath product association?

Thanks,

Steven

Pracus,

Its got Yin, and its got Yang. I would like to see an association with bath products, even if it is a very loose and artistic association.

Also, I think I like the thin font better than a heavy font and also all caps.

Thanks,

Steven

Henrique- Very nice. I think you are on the right track.

Tonya-Very tight design. I like it a lot. Clean and simple. Needs the TM. Do you think you can add the word STYLE or BRILLIANT without losing the tightness and simplicity?

Is the word "style" (or "Brilliant") meant to be like a tagline?

Tonya,

Yes, I want to use it as a tagline although I may not use anything (undecided) so the designs should also stand alone like yours does.

Your thoughts on using a tagline at all are also welcome.

Here's the design with the "TM" but no tagline.

I like Tonya's design the best. I want to work on one minor thing but it definitely is the design for our logo.

Thank you to everyone for participating.

Hi Tonya,

Thanks again for getting into my mind for a project.

The only thing that bugs me (as in very minor bugging, I love the logo) about your design is that the TM symbol as part of the S in GEMS throws the overall balance of the logo off. I like it much better without the TM in the original version because the BATH and GEMS have equal weight. With the TM as part of GEMS, however, it looks out of balance. As if a piece of GEMS was missing.

Can we try to figure out a different placement for the TM?

Also, what format can I get this in where I can change the colors of the positive and negative so that I can place it on various pictures and have the background show through in the negative? I might want to reverse it as well so that the positive becomes the negative space. Is that what a vector does?

Thanks,

Steven

Thanks for selecting my design, Steven :)

Yes, with the vector artwork I'll be providing, you can easily swap the colors around. But, that's assuming you have a vector program, such as CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator. I'll be giving you other file formats as well, and if you'd rather, I can just prepare a few color variations for you.

I'll see what I can do about the "TM". What I had done to try to keep GEMS as centered as possible, was cut away some of the top of the "S" so that the "TM" tucked in a bit. I've got a couple other ideas for it, so I'll work on those and post something later today.

I have PhotoImpact and according to the manual it can open and work with vector files. The main thing I want to be able to do is use the black part of the artwork and place it on whatever color background I happen to be working on. Maybe this is possible with a .gif set with a transparent background?

I understand what you were doing by making the TM as part of the S and I think it was a really good idea but it just keeps catching my eye and making me wish there was no TM at all because it affects the artwork balance.

I guess this is the same reason I stopped collecting comics when they put the barcodes on the cover.

:D

Here are 2 alternate TM placements. The first is a bot more traditional, with the symbol in the upper right, outside the design. It doesn't interfere with the design at all, but not sure how you feel about it hanging out there on the outside.

The second one is another way to incorporate it within the design itself. Personally, I like this one, but it has the potential to detract from the graphic. What do you think?

http://homepage.mac.com/tonyagoodnow/graphic_files/bathgems/bathgems3.gif

By the way, I wasn't sure which tagline you prefered, so I just picked one to use for these samples. ;)

Tonya

Here are a few samples to show how the logo looks on different backgrounds with colors flipped around a bit:

http://homepage.mac.com/tonyagoodnow/graphic_files/bathgems/bathgems4.gif

The actual vector file will not have a background, so if you can open a vector file and create a gif from it, you'd be able to do what I just did above. I can also create some transparent gifs for you if you'd like.

I like the TM inside the faucet better. Can you cut the size of it down by 20%?

I liked "THE ESSENCE OF STYLE" the best.

Thanks,

Steve

Tonya

These are 80% of the size I'd been showing, and I've changed the tagline.

http://homepage.mac.com/tonyagoodnow/graphic_files/bathgems/bathgems3b.gif

One thing to keep in mind about vector artwork is that size is irrelevant. Whatever size the image is in the file can be increased or decreased without any print quality loss (small web images are another story!). So size only matters in whatever GIFs or JPEGs you need. Normally, I provide 2 or 3 sizes of GIFs and JPEGs in addition to the vector artwork (.ai and .eps) and a high resolution JPEG. You'll get the everything in color and B&W and I'll also make sure to give you the logo both with and without the tagline.

If you need any additional file formats or any specific GIF sizes just let me know. If, for example, what I just showed you is a good size for the logo, I'll be sure to include one that size.

Once I hear back from you I'll get the files together.

BathSafety
09-20-2005, 05:56 PM
Yes, I think these sizes are good. If you can make sure one of the files is a tiff at 300dpi then I can use it on my postcards.

Thanks,

Steve
