Hi,

need a logo for esources.co.uk, requirements are relatively simple:

1) Space available is 183px*58px (note there should be enough white padding around the logo as in current logo at http://www.esources.co.uk)

2) We need a smile integrated, maybe by extending the first e (red e) of esources in current logo

3) the .co.uk part could be placed vertically on the right of esources as in http://70.27.87.59/clients/zoomonga/3d.jpg

4) A Copyright circle wouldn't be bad, but small and disguised as in zoomonga logo above

5) We need to fit the motto The UK Sourcing Directory within the logo.

6) An example of a very good logo from a large B2B site is attached.

Deadline asap please.

Any questions please post, will reply asap.

Hi Ruairi,

thanks for the submission. The smile needs to be a bit more professional/subtle, more on the lines of alibaba and amazon.

Motto needs to be integrated well in the design, more or less like in your first submission.

Hi Pracus,

much better, the e smile could be smoother but that is the idea.

I wouldn't mind seeing some entries with a mascot on the left like the aliababa's logo, maybe around the e (either e integrated in the esources writing, or separate as in the alibaba logo).

Hi Pracus,

yes please, I like your work, but it doesn't match the company image. Can you think of a more serious design, I have a feeling a long smile (like in your e) projects the wrong idea.

If you look at the smile of the alibaba logo I attached, the character looks satisfied, but he is not laughing, it's a content smile. Also his eyes are closed/not there, almost as if he blindly trusted the site/information on the site.

pracus: the u smile is ok, the good thing is that each letter takes the same vertical space, but the smile is still not what we are after.

It's not like they didn't try to make you happy Stefano. At least give them some credit for persitance.

No, Lori's message had nothing to do with the expiration of your Private Client account. She was just trying to find out if a decision was made so one of the designers could be paid for the time they spent on your project. Who will recieve the $200?

Hi Everyone,

none of the designs submitted has the professional look we are after. I appreciate the attempts made, and it's true the designers have made progress in the right direction. However none of the submitted logos have the combination of simplicity and professionalism we are after, probably Pracus came closest with his message #42 submission (very simple and neat), but unfortunately also lacking on the professional side.

It is not possible for me to comment further without seeing a more inspiring submission.

SC

Palmer
11-19-2005, 06:16 AM
So just to clarify, would you like them to keep trying? Their goal really is to make you happy, they just need very specific direction, maybe linking them to other logos you like will help the designers who are having a hard time following your direction. Remember they do not all speak English as their first language so something visual would help them get on the right track.

Or are you choosing Pracus to receive the $200?

comludos
11-19-2005, 08:45 AM
I would love for them to try more options, but I don't want to waste anyone's time either. This thread started with the submission of a competitor's logo which we feel has the perfect combination of simplicity and professionalism.

If we knew what we were after we would not be submitting here.

Re winner there is no winner yet, but if you have a time limit for completion then I guess all the designers that submitted are winners at this stage.

Regards,

SC

I have a question (if you don't mind) that my help the designers.
You said in your brief, "2) We need a smile integrated, maybe by extending the first e (red e) of esources in current logo", but the one that is closest to what you want doesn't include that. (was that actually a question??? ;) )

Would there be anything about any of the entries that you would change to make more "professional", maybe giving the designers a better idea of where you would like to be?

comludos
11-19-2005, 03:12 PM
Probably Pracus's #15 and Paula's #34 come closest re e smile, problem with #15 is that the e takes too much of the vertical space. #34 is a very promising concept, but it is not as refined as we would like.

Simplicity is key, + esources.co.uk should not take up the vertical space reserved for 'The UK Sourcing Directory'.

eg

Hi,

Kassi

thanks for your submission. It looks promising, however I think using a different font for the e of esources is not a good idea because we risk that visitors will think the site is sources.co.uk.

So definitely use 1 font type only (at least for esources.co.uk). Having something like

e esources.co.uk

where e is smiling and different font and esources.co.uk in one font, may work.

We may also be interested in simply having esources.co.uk in a very good font (without the smiling e). A font that nicely matches our new design.

David

your idea looks promising. One problem:
1) the font seems to be a serif font, but we would be interested in seeing the logo with all lower case letters (esources.co.uk) with the font you have chosen above. Also could you apply it to our new design (template is attached in page two of this thread, towards the end of page 2)

2) Can you try the concept with a different font?

Looks very good, unfortunately we cannot use any of the space underneath esources.co.uk (as it is reserved for the motto or for text). Please note name is esources (not esource). The font looks really good, could we see just esources.co.uk in that font (and maybe other good fonts you may have in your font portfolio. As mentioned in a previous post, simply a very good font might just do the job.

the hat doesn't really do it, although I see what you are trying to do, and it's in the right direction. The hat however makes me think early 1900s, gentleman, posh. It is very important to bear in mind it is a trade portal, any characters/icons should have a strong relation to the wholesale trade.

Dave

The idea looks good, but it needs to be refined. Think outstanding logo, reliable, trustworthy, the smile needs to convey these feelings. Most of the smiles so far convey hungry, yummy, funny.

Eduardo

Looks professional but as mentioned in a previous post we need to have esources.co.uk all in one font, and then if you are going to use a different font for the e, display as:

e(in different font) esources.co.uk(all one font)

Fabian

Funny, but a step backward. The font of esources looks great, the character is however way off. With the right character on the left it could very well be a winner.

HI Eduardo,

definitely a step in the right direction, you gave us an idea. How about an e over an s (as in es for esources), placed in such a way that they indicate some sort of interaction (as in interaction between buyers and sellers).

something like

es esources.co.uk

Integrating a smile within the logo would be a plus, but I realise it might be hard.

I am attaching our favicon (not really too relevant, but could give you some ideas... or maybe not, anyway I have attached it).

Hi Eduardo,

just use es (don't put that smile in between). Also think trading of goods between buyers and sellers, that's what the es should convey, not a love affair :)

Maybe use arrows, let me attach an image of what I am thinking about.

SC

PS: love affair doesn't look that bad after all, love between buyers and suppliers, hmm, if ever, but it's original.

You can either try this overlapping e and s idea (maybe with a border), or the option with the arrows (which I tried to sketch on top left of image attached below).

First designer to submit gets the idea. Ah, do we get a cut of the price money? just kidding, we need you guys, please submit your best shot.

1) e in red (as well as left hand)

Eduardo sorry for lack of reply, we just checked your logos but we couldn't really see the strong relationship with the genre of the site. Your style is very good, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a match in the designs submitted so far.

PS: #99 is a good idea, but when placed on our template it gives the impression of enticing the user to leave the site (left pointing blue arrow). If you have something with arrows in mind that is striking we will consider it.

Hi Fabian,

looks better. I would align the red e with sources (looks a bit tilted at the moment), and as you said improve on the handshake.

If possible we would like to see the design with .co.uk on top (as you have done), as well as on the right of esources (as shown in our test image post #109).

Anyway a winner, thanks all for taking part.

PS: the left hand looks like it has a short sleeve, while the right one looks like a glove. Our preferred current version is post # 112.

Hi Fabian,

posts #111 and #112 are very close to what we need. We need exactly what you see in those posts, but with the right hand in blue (and joined with the S) and probably the e with a longer red "sleeve".

Post #118 revision is quite close to the above, but you seem to have schematised the hands too much. I have attached our current best result.

Just to let you know the E is not a font but is in fact handdrawn, if it is still not right it will require a total redesign, which is fine.

I await further instructions

Hi Fabian,

thanks for getting back to us. The issue with the design above is that the red hand looks squeezed and the e should look like the italic e of the font you are using. I realise you have to draw it by hand or convert text to image, which changes the look.

The style above is ideal, but it needs to look crisp and top notch to be used. If you are going to test with other handshakes, bear in mind the lines should not be too sharp (the handshake lines in your #122 post looks a bit strong, the hand shake reminds me a bit of communist russia ... ).

So the handshake style is fine (contour thin lines, no fill, probably the red hand should be noticed better, looks too squeezed) and the e. Otherwise the design is great. Look at the alibaba logo in the first post, it is very smooth. The handshake you are using I found it on google images quickly, maybe you can find a better handshake to go with the logo.

Thank you for your patience, hopefully this is more on target on what you would like the final design to look like.

This may seem strange but the backhand (Blue) is the most exposed part of the handshake as it shows the thumb and fingers holding the other hand. ;)

Who would have thought a handshake could be so complicated

I'll be available most of the weekend if needed :D

Cheers
Fabian

Hi Fabian,

I appreciate your effort, however the design attached is still far better. Can we have exactly this design attached but with the right hand blue.

Also please try with other thumbnails for the handshake.

Hi Fabian,

real good, only two minor issues:

1) the red e together with both hands needs to be rotated anticlockwise by approx 2 degrees (the e needs to be in line with sources)

2) the blue hand looks like a glove, can you make the bottom leg of the S thicker to fit the blue hand (just to test how it looks)

3) The red e looks almost perfect. It is not 100% smooth though (view image attached).

Otherwise we are almost there, it's a shame you didn't test with other handshakes, but otherwise it is looking more like a professional logo. Once the above issues are resolved we can wrap this up.

Fantastic

Could you please private message me your email, and I will get those files to you.

Legally I cannot give you the fonts, but I can give you the links to were one would need to be purchased and the other is freely available.

Cheers
