Project Summary
The Youth Network is a project to link up the various youth organizations and spheres of Vancouver through all ages events. Policy/political discourse will be integrated into those events via the web site (discussing & voting which organization should host an event, benefit from it, and get the PR).

What text should be included in the main part of the?
We’re not clear that text should be a part of the logo per se, we’d like to see more graphical arrangements with Vancouver Youth Network underneath or otherwise as a relatively seperate thing.

What type of product or service do you offer?
We are official youth advocates for the city of Vancouver and are looking to help organize and form more coherent youth communities and bring attention to the various (and often disparate) youth spheres, organizations and issues in the city and region.

How long have you been in business?
6 years, but this is actually for a new wing of the office, the Youth Network, which is meant to, through social events, bring together the various youth spheres in the city through all ages events and policy discourse (via the website).

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
We hope to help form approchable and fun social networks for youth around political discourse and organizing.

What are your long term goals?

To have a wide and powerful youth network that can easily communicate across itself, share resources and organize around any given issue relatively quickly

Audience Profile
Please describe your existing audience?
Generally engaged or desiring to be engaged youth. They are often politically active with high levels of policy analysis and intelligence. Culturally adept, worldly and cosmopolitan from a fairly “new age” city.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
We’d like to add generally disaffected and underground youth. I guess these people could be construed as slackers/drop outs. We’d also like to bring in “geek” youth who have good policy wonk heads and care but need to be welcomed/engendered into friendly, informal policy discussions and politics.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines
Most importantly perhaps, we want the logo to interact with a splash screen/web site theme that is basically a diagram of network connections and nodal hubs as in End Point Multicast models. The splash screen will go up the left side of the page and then along the top with the central cluster in the upper corner. It’d be nice if the logo could also act as a node when reduced. http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/networks/hivgc.gif is a good example of the type of graphic that will compose the splash screen/theme for the web site.
We’re basically looking to create a youth social ‘scene’ based on political/policy awareness, so we are looking for something intelligent but fun, intriguing and a little edgy but official.

What type of logo would you like?
We would like an exciting logo that depicts networking or Hive Mind thinking and gathering. Elements coming together to make a strong, coherent whole.

We kind of like the following logos:
www.youthworkers.net.nz/
Good graphically but not necessarily what we’re looking for conceptually, doesn’t have the edge either.

www.networkleeds.com/index.pl?z=1&s=109
Like this comes close to conveying desired concept (nucleus metaphor might be useful) and would work well as a node in the web site theme. But hopefully it would be something with distinct elements forming the whole.

http://www.srvyouth.org/
Speaks relatively well to the concept although not creative enough.

www.frontlinestores.com.au/youth/contact.asp
It’s got the edginess we’re looking for and could be construed into the concept we’re looking to communicate

www.exosphereexhibitors.co.uk/
Ya, pretty cool, I’d like to see some done around this, including galaxy like double spirals although be careful of not making it to hypnotically cultish.

www.phidelity.com/ph2/Collage/front
this is fairly representative of the kind of design in the region right now.

http://www.imageecology.com/events.html
As is this. And some sort of concentric circles might be a good thing to play with as we are very concerned with linking of disparate spheres in this town of many neighbourhoods and cliques.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo?

We’re looking at red purple blue kind of spectrum but aren't sure.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Nothing specific as of yet. Want to see some versions of the various elements comented on above in the ‘What Kind of Logo Would You Like’ section.

Communication Strategy
We want it to convey a network of young people creating a greater whole, a powerful and fresh whole. We're looking to do this around social party type events and the web site.

What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/networks/hivgc.gif
We would like it to communicate that we are the center of youth discourse through socializing in the city.

Where will your new logo be used?
This logo will mainly be used on the web site in conjunction with a network theme (see Perception/Tone/Guidelines or for example of web site theme http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/networks/hivgc.gif) although will be widely be used throughout Youth Network communications including a newsletter.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
We don’t have competitors, we have a Vancouver, West Coast culture who’s spirit we wish to tap into with this logo. That culture can kind of be encapsulated in yoga - new age crazes, “Fun City!”, and Left Coast pinkos. We are looking to bring together diverse peoples as this is a very diverse town.

Targeted Message
We want it to convey a network of young people creating a greater whole, a powerful and fresh whole.
