(Admin code added by Palmer - 6R9713439Y0809131)

Overview: We have recently leased a new large building, and we in the process of opening up a pet supply store. Our company name will be PET FOOD MAX. We have a lot of plans for the future with our funding from investors, we would like to open one store per year. We are planning to become a franchise and market ourselves well. So, this being said, it is VERY IMPORTANT for us to have a strong and memorable identity (company logo). We would like to have a SIMPLE logo like every other large franchise in US. In addition, while you are designing this logo, you must keep in mind, that we have to build a large 16 feet wide sign for our logo to place on all of our store buildings. So, what that means is, the logo can not be VERY COMPLEX, again keep in mind that it needs to be easy for the sign companies to create a large store sign out of aluminum metal.

Colors: ITS UP TO YOU! Brand new company and store, so we have not sat down and determined our company colors, so ITS UP TO YOU whichever color you like. KEEP IN MIND, logo should not have any gradients of colors, all colors must be SOLID!

What we are looking for:
A. FONT: We would like a nice thick/bold professional font. Outlines are cool:
(link: http://petfoodmax.com/logos/pfm_example1.jpg outside outline goes from black to white then to the solid font color. You are not forced to make the font like this, just an idea. Also this logo is very detailed.. we like.. but too much for a sign)
B. ICON/LOGO: We would like you to place a cat and dog in the logo. So, simple illustration outline of a cat/dog would be nice.
C. Take a look at: www.petco.com - www.petsmart.com - www.petfooddepot.com - www.petfoodexpress.com
These companies above have VERY NICE franchise type logos, BUT do not copy their EXACT logo. An illustration logo is fine, something cute, fun, simple... just not something so detailed! I

File Types: .AI, must be a VECTOR type logo.

Disclaimer: We would like to require FULL RIGHTS to logo.

EDIT: I have been looking at all the past contests regarding all of the pet sittings business, all those logos are awesome! We like the illustration work on 90% of those!

Paula23; Thank you for your submission. I like the idea/concecpt, but we do not like the illstration too much, its the look of the dog/cat. We like the effort and idea you put it in, nice creative approach!

Here is my idea,
The 'MAX' part is bigger so, it will be distinctively set that this is maximum, or the best for pet food. Also it will be stand out and will be noticed from distance (if you plan it to be placed in top of building). The colour can be discussed, if you prefer other colours instead.

here's my first try... hope you like it!

Thanks for the submission, but its too detailed, we are looking for something more simpler. Also please use a more professional bold/thick font. Great start though!

Designers,

Keep in mind, that we have to make a store sign out of the logo, so the text has to be displayed horizontal like: http://www.nightdriver.com/images/event/Kascar_Building_sign_gif.gif

We can not have a small logo in a shape of a circle with our text in it, that is too small. A icon/illustration in a shape of a circle with our name to the side of it and displayed horizontal would be fine.

Samoyloff, thank you for your submission. I am not a big fan of this type of concept, of a cat in a dog. I have seen that concept often on this web site. But, I do like your thinking!

:)

I just noticed your second design, I do like your idea of illustration a dog/cat in a circle shape! BUT, this would be a hard logo to make a sign out of, very detailed illustration of the cat/dog.

well, here's a second shot at this... hope this suits you! :)

I really like this, VERY UNIQUE. Can I see this concept in a different look, but save this design. Can you design this same concept, with a more fun/happy looking cat/dog and without any drop shadows. Also, can you show couple more fonts?

I really do like this concept! Its very unique! Keep up the great work! :P

hi, thanks for the feedback. i made some changes and tried to make the pets look happier. i added some fonts options, tell me if you'd like to see more, and if you do, let me know what kind of font are you looking for. i've made a one color version of the first font option (black, at the bottom), tell me if you want to see another font in this version. i also took the shadows away...
hope you like this!! :)

Samoyloff, my partner likes your concept as well. The idea of the cat/dog hugging and looking so happy. He asks, can you please show us other color combinations as well as another illustration concept?
We like the idea of a simple illustration like:
http://www.art-dept.com/illustration/lundberg/portfolio/images/update0205/Bo_dog.jpg
http://www.husse.com/startimages/logo.gif
http://www.eagleid.com/images/Cat&dog.gif
(Please keep in mind to use a solid one color for the illutsrations.) We are basically looking for nice/fun out illustrations of a dog/cat.

Much better guys! Kassi, what about just using the cat/dog head, instead of thier whole body? Fabian, can we see the same concept, but in one solid color (rather than grey and white colors for part of the cat and dog).

All staff members of Pet Food Max are reviewing everyones logo, and commenting. We will vote at the end, for the best one!

Keep them coming designers :) !

Titiana, can you duplicate our existing logo, and just replace the 2 "O" with the cat/dog...?

Can we see this same concept, but with a different illustration type look? We REALLY like the idea of the dog/cat hugging and looking so happy. Can you make the illustration like the example "pet pal" like that type of illustrations?

Here's my entry :)

Mark, awesome UNIQUE concept approach. I like your thinking, but can we see a concept design with a cat/dog as part of the logo? We stated that in the guidelines, that is what we really wanted to see the most :)

WE ARE IN LOVE WITH THE PET PAL concept you made
We really like the design work of the cat/dog... and then the fun approach of them grabbing the letters and etc... its awesome.. if you can make something like that for us - I think you will make it into the final 4, for all of staff members to vote on the winning one.

Some of our staff members like your concept, but they ask, can you make the cat/dog look a little different, more like the pet pal logo we attached? Staff members really like your idea of the cat/dog happy and hugging.

Here's my revision :)

Can you remove the ball graphic, because www.petsmarts.com logo has that concept, and we will run into legal problems with it

And what about seeing a concept without a large doggy bone? Last favor, promse :P - Because that will be VERY hard to make a sign out of...

Received via private message...

Hello,

Thanks for your submission. Can you make your concept design of the cat/dog more roundish and less detailed (more simple like the PetPal logo)?

Thanks

No problem; here ya go. Just so you know Private Messaging is not allowed until a designer has been chosen.

Thanks, look forward to your feedback

Sorry to bug you Mark, ha - but is it possible to make the illustration of the cat/dog more like the PetPal concept you designed? We are in LOVE with that illustration

Mark

I'm not sure how to do that without plagiarizing my own work? I really don't want PetPal to come to me or you with a lawsuit. I'll see what I can do, however it can never look the same.

Mark, VERY NICE! Let me ask the sign company if they can make a sign like that... because usually a sign is made out of one block letter at a time, its not a single long piece.

Thanks

petfoodmax
10-22-2005, 10:55 PM
Mark: We can not make sign out of that, because the sign will be made out of single block letters, and your logo contains slanted text and they are bunched up.
Sign will be like this:
http://www.nightdriver.com/images/event/Kascar_Building_sign_gif.gif

If you made a logo, that was like samoyloff (illustration of dog/cat on oneside, not touching the letters, it would be easy to make a sign out of)

Hmmmm, I find that hard to believe.

See attached.

Look at thier sign, see how each letter is a single block? Your logo's letters are all combined/touching each other. They need to be seperated.

Mark
10-23-2005, 12:55 PM
But your sign touches

Anyway, no problem. I'll do a straight version as well.

Revisions Request: Please place the cat/dog to the left of the logo (we are going to use our existing logo, and place the cat/dog to the right of it). Please create a fully body of the dog/cat standing, keep the doggy bone and dish in the illustration.
Please make the dog/cat hugging each other, in this structure: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=178747&postcount=11

Thats all, please send us the .AI (vector format)

Thanks Mark,

Couple of things:
1. Remove the "black dots" from the dog. Just leave those spaces that are occupied with dots with the white bg.
2. Make the feet of the dog a little smaller, they look a bit too big.
3. Can we see the logo in color? (different color combos?)
4. Can you move the cat to the right a little? (just a little, they look to crutched together)

No need to display the company text, just attach the illustration. We will use our own text font/color and etc.

Mark,

PERFECT! But can we see different color combination of colors (rather than simliar colors that you have used above). Maybe somethine that will match our logo? What do you think about these combos:
1. red/blue
2. greenish
3. Darkish Blue/Yellow

We just need to work on the color combo.
