Hello!
Please visit the following links to gain more information about Popdex, if you have never seen the site before.

Inspiration:

Basically, Popdex is both a current events / weblog search engine & a link popularity aggregator. My motivation for needing a logo comes from my desire to launch this search feature soon:
http://search.popdex.com/
Note: the search.popdex.com site doesn't work yet, but you get the idea. I'm moving towards a full-blown page layout that stretches, instead of having everything cramped up in a two column table structure like the main Popdex.com site is setup now. Think Google search results. The background color is going to be plain white, so the logo should look best with a white background, and you can safely assume that it will always be on a white background.
Logos that I like:
http://www.google.com/
http://www.feedster.com/
This one's okay:
http://info.com/
Less is more... you get the idea.
The text should only say "Popdex", i.e. not "Popdex.com" and capitalization is up to you. Though generally I seem to like either "Popdex" or "POPDEX" but with the all-caps toned down so it doesn't look like the logo is shouting at you.
As far as little info-graphics or other little things to add on besides the text, I'd be glad to see what people can come up with. The only idea I have in this department (and I'm open to anything you can come up with also) is somehow incorporating the "green bar" as seen on Popdex.com. A full green bar symbolizes "relevancy" in my mind, so I like the idea of incorporating that somehow.
ps. Even though the cash amount for the prize is only $50, I will be awarding links & publicity to the winner, in the form of announcements, links, etc. on Popdex. You will get exposure in front of my several thousand daily visitors, most of whom update their own Weblogs. The winner's link will receive permanent placement on Popdex.com, so take this into account as well if you are deciding whether it's worth your time or not to submit a logo.
Edited: oh yeah, almost forgot about a time frame. If you submit your logos now, hopefully I'll see one that I like. But if you need more time, I'm probably looking at 3 weeks from now, maximum, which is July 18th, 2003.
Feedback -- I didn't know if I was supposed to do this in a reply or here, so I did it in both places.
V + E + R + T:
I also really like your designs. I'm not sure which of the three I like the most. Maybe v. 3 or a variation thereof.
fusionminds.com:
You've got the right idea.. Those are all very simplistic designs, which I asked for. I guess I'm liking the "green" color theme at least somewhat, even though that's not a requirement.
ElKootcho:
I still like your #E the best, with #F close behind.
Ondarox:
I thought I might get a submission like this one... I don't want to copy too much off of Google now!
RadicalSEED:
Very nice design. I just don't know what it's saying to me. Like if it's the right type of design for Popdex...
The_Dude:
Yours is right up there with ElKootcho's of my favorites list so far. Yes, you got it right.. Less is more!
