View Full Version : [Project Complete] Postcard/flyer design - $120
Admin code added by Abby - ( 5DU49028AM682213X )
Hi,
I need a postcard designed for a mass mailer. Also, I want to be able to take this design and use it for a flyer as well down the road. Postcard design will need to be double sided with the back having the contact info and a little more detail about what we do. I want a professional look but something that's going to get someones attention and get read! I'm not ruling out something kind of off the wall if it makes sense.
The name of my business is Easylawn, we specialize in synthetic lawns/grass and putting greens. We market towards people who are concerned about water costs and shortages in the southwest, retiree's who don't want the hassle and maintenance of real grass, people with kids and pets (gives them a play area), and golfers who want to practice their golf game. I want this design to mainly focus on the synthetic lawn with maybe a small mention or picture of a putting green.
I have no slogans so you have freedom on that as well...
ex. the grass is always greener on the Easylawn side, beauty has no seasons, no maintenance-no water-no hassle, etc. Anything catchy will suffice. I'm considering doing a 10 % off winter special.
I have many pictures I can include so if you need some more let me know. I tried to attach the front of my business card but the file size was to big.
List of what we do and contact info:

I wrote this rather quickly, so please let me know if there is more information needed. I also plan on giving good feedback to each designer and the deadline is set for Nov. 19th.

Hello Rexx,
Could you please provide the dimentions of the postcard?
Is this a full bleed design?
Different layouts for the back occur based on the type of mailing you will be doing. i.e. the bottom section could require either 1/4 inch or more. This is often required for bar-codes that the post office puts there for mass mailing.
Did you know what format the back of your card will need?
Once I know more, I will offer an entry.
Thank you, :)
Thanks for the heads up on the mailer layout as I have not talked to anyone regarding the bottome section. First things first, the postcard will be a 4x6, but I will use the same design for larger formats. It can be a full bleed but not necessary. I would design the back as if it was a mass mailer with the room on the bottom necessary...however I have not looked into that and don't know the exact requirements. I will find out.

Mike, thanks for the entries. I need to soak those in a bit and maybe see a few more revisions before commenting too much. I don't care for the ipod in the one card...the rest of it looks pretty good. In the white submission, I do not like the green graphic under "forever green" and I'm not loving that grass on the header. The text would need revised some but I'll get to that later. I think both highlight the no water, no mowing issue pretty well.

Hello Rexx,
What type of file will you be needing for the final artwork?
Thank you,
Virgil.
PSD, PUB, JPG...I can use about anything but may not be able to view it personally.

Hi Ash
Here is my idea for your project. :)

IMOT, looks good. I like the fade out in colors with the logo on the back! Front looks good...maybe a little larger on the no water, no hassle stuff (maybe make water a tad bigger than the hassle and maintenance words). Also, I'm not sure if I want that slogan or not....also not sure about that font with white outline. Maybe you can play around with the font and I'll get you my desired slogan when I have it nailed down. Good start though.
By the way, I may not leave as much feedback the next few days...my wife just delivered our second child this morning.

this is my subsimission,
comments are welcomed.

OK designers, let me do some feedback so we can work our way to a winner. By the way, I think I'm going to do the 10% off but without the winter special part...that will allow me to use the card at any time. I will probably want a asterisks on the front with a explanation on the back stating the 10% off will be applied with the mentioning of the postcard or something to that nature.
Fran...I like the fact that it shows several pictures however if I'm going to show four I would want one with a putting green. The design is nice and clean but doens't have the personality that I'm looking for. I had a design I drew up myself that was pretty similiar to yours and I wanted something different.
djaka...The metallic band is cool. I like that. Design is also similiar to one I tried on my own. At least one of the images need to show more than just the up close grass. It's clean and simple but not quite what I'm looking for. Needs a little more info to be shown whether it be a pic or text.
Bohan...hmmm, hard to say...I like it a lot but it doesn't make me warm and fuzzy for some reason. I have no things to comment on other than that. The combination of the font and wording with that one image is a tad off for me. Also, not too sure about the yellow dots around the perimeter. Sorry, I can't pinpoint my reasoning better on yours.
Virgil, I like yours a lot. It shows both the grass and putting greens with style and doesn't take up the whole front. I'd like to see the logo bigger or more visible. Don't like the band especially with the logo being one color and the slogan another. Any way you could incorporate the no water, no maintenance, no hassle stuff into the design? Maybe move the synthetic grass, putting greens, landscape, moss rock, etc down to the bottom edge freeing up the top for the no water stuff. I hope to see a revision as I like the looks of the original.
IMOT, nice. I still dig your idea of incorporating the the partial logo into the front. I see you changed the picture...can I see the newer font with another picture? What about if you tried to put two pictures(one of a putting green) maybe stacked on top of each other on the left side while leaving the right side as is....also want the 10% off deal to be emphasized a bit more than that line of text. I like the back and the overall design.
OVERALL...right now, I prefer Virgil and IMOT's designs. I think those two are a little more of what I'm looking for. Thanks guys, I'll be on the computer some tomorrow so I'll try to check in a time or two.

Hi Rexx,
Thank you for your feedback. I'll work on the changes. Any chance to post here your logo in a vector format (.ai, .eps)?
Thank you,
Virgil.

I'll try to fix the submission,
I agree with Virgil, that it would be better if you could also post the vector format.
thanks

Hello Ash,
Here are the changes I've made to the front of the card. Ples feel free to ask for changes if you think there is a way to twist it more to be close of what you need :)

I looked for my logo in a vector format and find the attached files....however it doesn't open or appear to be what I thought it was. I've enclosed the whole zip file of what the logo designer sent. please let me know if it works???
Virgil, can you take out the red border line. Decorative rock can come out as well.
IMOT, I did provide my logo files, if you can use them! Please highlight the synthetic grass, putting greens, etc on rev_1 like you did on rev_2.

Thanks for the submissions everyone....after showing them to my wife, we are on the verge of choosing Virgils pending a few changes we would like to see and also seeing a layout of the back.
Virgil, I prefer the one without the grass background stuff on the bottom. However, please use that on the back which I have yet to see. Also, I would prefer "the grass is always greener banner" to be all one color perhaps white, or metallic looking. Finally, we are not sure of the graphic under the no water, no maintenance. Anything else you could do there? Please post once you've got something for the back. Thanks!

Hello Rexx,
Here are the changes as you requested, I preferred to use a much simpler graphic on the front(instead of the one you asked me to change). I can even remove this new "triangle" too, as I think it can look good with or without it. Let me know what you think,
Virgil.

Virgil, we still don't have what I want. I see now you've changed the green on the top, I don't want that. I want the card to look exactly like post #26 except for these two things:
1. "The grass is always greener on the Easylawn side". I want that to be the white or metallic look all the way across the card like on post #30, but not on the top like #30.....on the "grass is always greener on the Easylawn side" part. If you look at #26 you'll see the far right on that slogan has that. Actually I think it's white. I'm not sure how to explain this more so you understand what I'm saying. No graphic in that area just the color change all the way across.
2. The area under the No water, no maintenance, no hassle.....I don't want a triangle like on #30 or the swervy thing like on post #26. Something else that won't interfere with the white/metallic area that were trying to fix above. Maybe you can do some underline that looks cool but not too abstract like this ______. Something a little more stylish. If I don't like that, we'll leave it the way it was on post #26 as I don't mind it too much just wanted to see something different.
I'm going to PM this to you as well.

Hello again,
No problem here, I will work on the revisions in order for you to be happy with the outcome :) Do you mean something like this?
Virgil.
Yeah...that looks good. Just noticed we need to put a "s" on putting greens and change the spelling of synthetic. Also put moss rock ahead of waterfalls. Change red font color on back to white and include something stating the "*present postcard for rebate" ....and we are good! :) Oh and if you don't mind, I want one copy with the 10% off and one without it(don't forget to take off the postcard mention on back as well). Thanks Virgil, I think we are close.

Backside :)
Virgil, I think the front is good except please add Boulders to the end of Moss Rock. Please change the back to all black text except the cities and contact info on the bottome (which can stay white). I don't like the all white as I thought I would. You can also take off "and southern New Mexico" and just leave that line as Las Cruces. That should allow you to make the font on the cities, phone numbers and web address bigger. Hopefully that will be the final revision as I don't see any other changes. Have a nice Thanksgiving and I'll keep an eye out for your changes. As I've been doing, I'll PM to you as well.
