Hi again, all. This one is maybe a little different, but not too much so.

I'm looking for an alternate, personal business card, since my primary consulting business is very focused on one vertical market (airlines), and it's occasionally awkward when people ask me about other work.

The basic information I have is as follows

Deadline: Nov 22, 2005 (let me know if that's too short a time)

Card Type: One sided
Bleed: Sure, if it looks good
Medium: pdf, eps

Name: Curt LaMontagne
Address: 1011 2d Ave NW, Calgary, AB T2N 0E8

Job Title: Technology Strategist (Alternatively, could just say something like: Strategy | Technology)
Tagline: Agile Strategic and Technology Consulting for Turbulent Environments

Primary Audience: business executives, senior government officials, politicians

Attributes: Professional, executive, upscale, innovative, smart, creative, clean, agile

Tone: I'm not a designer (not by a long shot!), but my work does impinge on design, so I'd like the card to obviously have the sort of design touches in terms of balance and colours that I'm incapable of achieving by myself. I'm not afraid of a little drama, although I tend toward minimalism and I love white space. My intention is to have the cards printed on a very heavy, high quality, non-gloss stock.

Colours: It's been my experience that most of the cards I've seen have a gray colour component, but I'm really, really open on this.

Samples:

I was really struck by the card bogglins designed for Anne, but I'm not sure I'm secure enough in my masculinity to have my name in pink :) http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8770&page=1&pp=30

I also liked Fran's stuff for M Partners. http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7235

Hmm, you might get the idea I'm fixated on red from those two. I'm not, it's more their layout and overall impact.

Let me know if I missed anything.

For a nice change, this is entirely my project, so I should be able to give really fast feedback.

Thanks, everyone.

Curt

Hi Fran, thanks for being the first to jump in.

I definitely prefer the horizontal to the vertical example. The teal is nice, but I'm not so sure about the other colour. The lower bar seems a bit thick (vertically) to me, too?

I should also mention that the contact information does not have to be exactly as I titled or formatted it, I just wanted to be sure everyone would know what was what. I mention this because the contact block seems a little too busy. I'm really open to letting you try different approaches; you could dump the whole toll free US/Canada bit, for one typical example, if you think it would look better.

What do you think about moving my name and job title up to align with the top of the contact info block? Would that unbalance things?

Cheers,

Curt

Welcome, djaka! My first impression is very positive for your overall approach.

The main issue I have is repeating the tagline on the front and the back. I like the back as is, so I'd remove it from the front. I'm not sure where that leaves your front side design in terms of layout/balance changes.

Fran, I definitely prefer the layout for the bottom sample, but prefer the light blue from the top sample to the green. Could you also maybe try the bottom layout in the light blue, and perhaps also a couple of other mockups in that layout but with different alternate colours?

kaimere, thanks for your entries. Unfortunately, none of them are really working for me. I appreciate your thinking of the tie-in with the turbulence/sky thing, but it's just not the overall effect I'm trying for, sorry.

I think this clean lay out will be go perfectly with the very heavy, high quality, non-gloss stock.

Wow, great work Fran and djaka. Thank you both so much.

I have to say I'd be very happy with either of your designs, but I'm going to go with djaka's.

Cheers, and thanks again to both of you.
