What we do:
-----------------------
We are launching a new web service that is an intelligent web
rss feeds aggregator! To explain this further: we gather news
in the form of RSS feeds from sources specified by the user,
and by using machine learning algorithms we adapt the website
according to the users preferences to show interesting and relevant
feeds based on the reader's habits. The more articles the reader
clicks on, the more personalized the output becomes.
Our name: feeds 2.0 (case INsensitive)
Our website: feeds2.com (not alive yet!)
1. "feeds 2.0" must be in the logo. Feel free to try anything like a moto,
icon or not, ...or anything else that fits!
2. We want our logo to be contemporary, depict technology, web
and intelligence! It must represent a "cutting edge" web service, be
sleek and corporate - professional looking.
3. Preferred colours are: all variations of blue, black, dark red, grey. But any
color is welcome!
4. This logo will be printed everywhere (our website, business cards,
magazines, t-shirts, background on white paper, vehicles, wherever).
5. It must be in a scaleable vector format, a large, a small
and a black & white version of it must be provided. We must
have all rights to the design when this contest is complete
but the designer may use the logo in his portfolio!
Please, tell me if you need any more information from
us. I will post DETAILED feedback on EVERY submission.
The feeds2.0 team.
CONTEST END = Thursday, December 22, 2005
CONTEST PRIZE = $150.00

Comments for:
Medigraph:
-----------------
We like that it’s plain and simple. If you focus on the text part
of the logo, you will see that the font is really simple (nothing special). Can
you provide us with a version with a different approach on the font ? The
colors are nice. The icon reminds us of real-estate businesses. Something
different that resembles news in a way ?
Ratbaggy:
----------------
Paul, thank you for joining. Your approach is… too round! Also the
top line of the word feeds, the way it is joined, gives a “speed” effect
to the logo. It reminds us of courier companies logos. The font is nice,
but a bit stretched. Can you provide us with a revision where the top
line is gone and some more color(s) is added ?
Eziey:
----------------
We liked your proposal a lot. We don’t know if you meant it to be
that way, but the two E’s the way they are positioned, reminds us of a news
paper, which is really good for our service that deals with news. Can you
make the E’s resemble a news paper even more, but still remain clear visible
letters ? Perhaps a little font change (style, size or something else) in the “2.0”
part of the logo would be nice…
djaka:
--------------
Hello djaka. The word feeds is unreadable. The joined letters hide what the
word says. We liked the “2.0” part, the way it is positioned. The way you
join the two e’s together, form a pair of eyes or binoculars or something.
Can you expand on this a little bit ? It would be nice if this could depict
information or news in a way.
Thank you all very much. We are waiting for the revisions. Any other
designers that will join the contest ?

Hello designers. Thanks to all who have joined. Comments for
your latest proposals:
Eziey:
---------
Much better! The two E's are starting to resemble a newspaper.
Can you make the two E's a bit curvier and have both the
same color that separates them from the red that the rest of
the logo has ? Perhaps the grey that is used for the E's could
change into something more "graphic" (white with small black-grey
lines) so that it resembles a news paper even more. Thank you for
participating.
Djaka:
---------
version 2: Hello Djaka. This version is much better than the previous one,
but still the letters seem quite unreadable and too connected.
Some thoughts: perhaps the "f" would be better in capital ("F").
Also, the blue color is not matching a lot this logo. How about
a different coloring for your proposal ? And gradient color does not
look very nice... Btw, we love the "2.0" part. Very nicely positioned.
version 4: Very nice colors (we love the dark red for "feeds"). The orange
is fine but can you try something else ? The arrow inside the letters
looks a bit old fashined to us.
splunking:
-----------
Thanks for joining. What we did not like in your proposal is the
italic font. Some thoughts that might look better: Darker red color
for the background, making the two e's smaller than the rest of
the letters and giving a shape on the border (outline) that depicts
something in the area of information, news, intelligence, ... The
current shape of the border is nothing that relates to anything
of the above.
Medigraph:
-----------
version 2: The envelope is a very nice idea, but we think it's
cluttered. Can you reduce the colors for the envelope and make
it a bit clearer and also make the three lines that make the F
on the envelope a bit sharper ? (I know this is a vague comment!
Perhaps you have some ideas how to achieve what we are asking)
version 3: Not as good as the envelope. Also, too much colors, and
the "feeds 2.0" is not looking good turned that way. But the idea to
show a graph is nice. Any thoughts ?
CoffeehouseStudio:
---------------------
Hello Jennifer. Thanks for joining. We did not like the hemisphere
that you put on the "2.0" part. It makes the logo a bit "cluttered".
Version 2 looks better that version 1, without the border. Some ideas:
Change the font for the "2.0" part. Also, please try a different color
for it. Dish the dots "..." and one other idea: the "ee" parts could
make a pair of eyes. Could this fit in your design without making it
childish or cluttered ?
Thanks to everyone who has joined so far. Any other one that plans to
enter this contest ?

I tried to incorporate a symbol similar to those who would already be reading RSS (in a way doubled for 2.0) while maintaining a crisp, professional, modern look. Shown also in black and white as requested and without the slogan to show scalability.

Hello Jennifer. Thanks for all the proposals! The
best ones are versions 3 and 6. We have no comment
for you right now. Please read the comments for
all designers, and maybe you can submit a new
version of them.
eziey
---------------
The newspaper texture was a bad idea (we had)! Your best version
so far is version 2. Can you supply a new version of it,
with the two "EE" having the same color (preferably not grey,
something else) and a darker red color for the rest of the letters ?
Thank you very much.
mbleigh
----------------
The normal font looks much better than the italic one. About the
icon part, please see comments for all designers, and one more thing:
the font used in your proposal is a bit thick. How about making it
a bit more plain (one idea: use a "Georgia" - like font -> looks
asymmetric with some letters having different height, especially
in the "2.0" part)
to all designers: SOME IDEAS
-------------------------------------
How about some scattered letters of the English alphabet
(on tiles perhaps?) that somehow form the word FEEDS? The
idea behind this concept is that our users will get out
something useful and readable out of the RSS information
overload!
One other thing: the commonly adopted icon for RSS feeds in
browsers (IE and FF) now, is this one:
http://tsagas.brinkster.net/rss_icon_large.gif
http://tsagas.brinkster.net/rss_icon_small.gif
Also, the commonly used icon for an RSS feed is an orange "XML"
or "RSS" icon.
http://tsagas.brinkster.net/rss_icon.gif
http://tsagas.brinkster.net/xml_icon.gif
[ There was a contest for it here in DO:
http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7979&highlight=rss ]
Perhaps this icon (not necessarily in orange or exactly the way
it is) could somewhere fit the design.
Thank you for participating. Any other designers that will join ?

Very nice! Can you experiment a bit with the colors or the 2.0
part of this version ?
We also like your previous version (2) with the "read me feed me"
tag line. How about dishing the tag line... and changing the colors
and the icon ?
eziey
----------
Ok. The color experiments showed that ... still the best
version is version 2. Perhaps we should leave it there
for now, unless you have another idea!
djaka
---------
This font is too cluttered! Rather unreadable. Perhaps something
simpler or a different idea would be better.
CoffeehouseStudio [comment edited!]
---------------
We did not like version 7. The previous versions were better.
What we liked was the fact that the RSS icon was used
inside the 2.0 part, but perhaps the font should change and
the rss icon should have it's original color.
Thanks to all who have participated. Still accepting new entries...

Dear designers…
The 22nd of December has come. We like your logo proposals
very much, but we are unable to decide now which one is the
best for us, because many members of our team are on
holidays! For this reason we decided to extend the contest for
another week and a half and also raised the amount $20.
Contest now ends on: Tuesday 3 of Jan of 2006
Contest prize: $170 (US)
Comments for the previous proposals:
mbleigh
----------
For some reason Versions 4 and 5 that you posted earlier have
vanished from designoutpost! Still, from what we were able to
grasp version 4 looks very interesting. Could you please
remove the cube that contains the rss icon? Also the color
change of 2.0 (blue) looks interesting. Can you please
experiment a bit more with the colors or the 2.0 part ?
Still we haven’t seen any revisions of Version (2) with
the "read me feed me" tag line. How about dishing the tag
line... and changing the colors and the icon (as we asked in
our last comment)?
CoffeehouseStudio
---------------
Versions 8, 9, 10 are very nice. We still like the fact that the
RSS icon is used either inside the 2.0 part or on top of the
word “feeds”. The scattered letter approach of version 10
might need some improvement. Could you please experiment a
bit more with the font of the word feeds?
Thanks to all who have participated!!! Anyone else that wants to join ?

Hello and happy holidays to everyone!
Comments for:
Mbleigh
-------------
Your version 3 is very nice. Can you place the “2.0” part on a box
somehow, because it seems to hang in the air now.
Coffeehousestudio
----------------------
Version 12 is much better than 11, although the script font seems
like too ordinary. Perhaps some coloring will give it more life
and perhaps the rss icon could fit even larger in there.
Eziey
-----------------
Idea: combine your versions 2 and 9. Keep the EE’s that form a
newspaper from version 2 and use the font and RSS icon from
version 9…
Aaron
----------------
Thanks for joining. The black and orange lines tie very well
together. The “feeds” part is too simple. How about a different
font for it, and also try using black background around the “feeds”
part too (somehow) ?
Unorthodox
--------------------
Nice idea! Trying to fit the curves of the rss icon to the letter “F”…
But version 1 is too “complicated” and version 2 is becoming very
tall. In your 2nd version, can you try to fit the rss icon with both the
letter “F” and the first “e” from the word “feeds” ?
Happy New Year!

Hello eziey.
Your best version so far is version 2.
(First of all dish the rss icon on letter "D" completely)
We would like to experiment on the colors. Use the same
color for the two E’s. We are not sure what colors look good.
How about trying some combinations of light red and green for
the E’s and perhaps the same color for the "2.0" part.
Also, please supply us with other combinations of colors. Gray and
red also look nice but they need to be worked a bit more.
One final thing: the letter "D" in this font is not quite readable.
Perhaps a similar font would look nicer.
I hope I’m not confusing you :)

Hello eziey.
We have decided on the main colours:
black for "2.0"... Black or a dark grey for the "EE"
and red for the rest of the letters. Also, the line
that separates the "feeds" with the "2.0" must be
darker, probably black or dark gray.
Can you supply us with some variations of the
above colors (from very dark red to very light red) ?
Also, with and without the shining that version 8 had...
One final detail. Perhaps the two "E"s look better a bit
smaller. We are not sure thought...

Hello dear eziey.
We finally decided! Your best version relies
on FEEDS315.JPG...
COLOR numbers: 1805, 425, black. No shining.
Before posting the final files, we would like
to see a big version of this logo, if possible.
400 pixels wide for example. We would
like to see how the bigger version looks like. The
vertical separator line would look much better
if it always stayed thin.
And one final thing. We know that this is not
in the original requirements list, but we only
thought of it now!. No offence of course if
you don't want or don't have the time to do it. We
are all too busy and that no secret.
We would like an .ico for our website. [ico: an image
16×16 preferably with a 16m color palette]. We have an
idea for it: "F2.0" based on your logo of course!
Please do not feel obliged to post it!

Sure... No problem at all about the icon.
Go on, send the files whenever you are ready. What
files exactly will you be sending ? Photoshop psd, Illustrator, other ?
Do they need an extra font or something ?
About the small version of it, it must be around 130 to 150 width
and 30-40 height.
