Need logo for new women's shoe design company. Name of company is 'Ann Roth Shoes'.
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Ann Roth and Ann Roth Shoes- would like to see entries for both

What type of product or service do you offer?
fun, funky, flirty shoe design with hand-crafted touches that make each pair truly unique

How long have you been in business?
6 months

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I want to create brand identity with women of all ages (initial target customer is 20-35 yrs old but will expand as business grows). Ann Roth Shoes have unique and eye-catching designs. I want the logo to embody a sense of frivolous, fun, feminine footwear, catering to the higher-income bracket. I want women to feel indulgent and deliriously happy when buying or wearing these shoes.

What are your long term goals?
To be recognizable nationally (and someday internationally) as a fashion-forward footwear company providing endless creative shoe options for women of all ages. To be the first place that shoe lovers look when seeking new, unique designs.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
I would like to have my final logo done and chosen by January 15th.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience:
I have not officially launched my website yet, but my current audience of friends and word-of-mouth contacts are young, fashionable women who favor unique, fun, feminine styles.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
As my business grows, I would like to cater to super-high income celebrities and fashionistas who want custom designs

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
rich, fun, feminine, flirty, funky, individual; would like to see some modern, and some with a more retro feel

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I've attached a logo that a friend designed and I like the color palette of chocolate, carmel, and cream colors because they are neutral and timeless yet fun and flirty. I also like 'Tiffany blue' and anything green or pink. I love love love polka-dots, so feel free to use them, but I'm more simple designs - whatever inspires you from this post!

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I'd like to see some entries with sketches of espadrilles (picture attached as an example), some with polka-dots, maybe one or two with a 1950s--retro feel; and then other varieties of whatever your creative minds think of! I would like to see different renderings of picture and words and just words (to put on shoe insole)

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
super-creative but appealing to all different fashion styles, high-class, high-quality, fun, always something new

What is your tagline or slogan?
don't have one yet but perhaps will put in a submission for that as well :)

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Ann Roth Shoes just make people happy. You can never have too many pairs; and it's more fun to buy the shoes first and then the outfit to go with them! Life is too short for boring shoes. :)

Where will your new logo be used?
All print materials and website, insole of shoes, shoe boxes. Website already contracted, but I may submit for business cards, letterhead, and pocket folder for press releases.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
I will most likely compete with the likes of Steve Madden, Betsey Johnson, Irregular Choice, Rocket Dog, Kenzie, and Jeffrey Campbell.

List competitive URLs if possible:
www.stevemadden.com
for betsey johnson shoes: http://www.zappos.com/n/br/b/643.html
www.irregularchoice.com or http://www.zappos.com/n/br/b/495.html
for rocket dog shoes:
http://www.zappos.com/n/br/b/204.html
for kenzie shoes:
http://www.zappos.com/n/br/b/1079.html
www.jeffreycampbellshoes or http://www.zappos.com/n/br/b/628.html

What sets you apart from your competitors?
Each pair is made-to-order so the styles and creativity are endless. I have lines for each season as well as hundreds of custom design options.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
fun shoes for gals who can never have too many:)

If anyone would like to take a stab, I'd like to see a rendering using a sketch of an espadrille (I will try to attach a photo as an example). It would be interesting to see what you guys do with the ribbon and the wording, etc.... thanks again!! :) :)

Hi Michael,

Thanks for getting it started! This one is not exactly what I'm looking for. I am hoping for something more girly and fun. Would love to see what else you have up your sleeve along those lines!

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the submission. I'm looking for more a bit more frill or color if there is going to be a drawing of a cake. The slice idea is cute but this one looks more like cheese. I'd love to see what else you submit if you are interested. :)
Thanks,

Hi djaka,

thanks for the logo submission. I like the shoe incorporation but it looks a bit too much like NIKE at a glance so I'd like to see the same idea with a different font maybe?

Hi Michael,

I like this one much better - it's visually appealing and simple. The red one is great but without the tagline. Can I see it with the word shoe instead, maybe written in a scrolly, girly font (or whatever inspires you :) ?
thanks!

Hi Jennifer,

I like the girly touches of both v1 and v2 but flowers or vines aren't the direction I want to go. I checked out your portfolio and there is some impressive stuff. I'd like to see something still girly with color but maybe with a sketch of a cake or a shoe.

Hi Medigraph,

I like the logos you submitted! I love the colors and use of mod polka-dots in the pink and green one but there may be a bit too much going on overall (when I picture it on the insole of a shoe). I do like the font, so can I see it with just 1 or 2 dots or whatever you think would make it simpler (but keeping the same feel). does that make sense?

The second one is interesting but I'm not too crazy about the sketch of the cake inside the C. I like the way the words are though so can I see the same thing with a sketch of a shoe instead of a cake?

thanks!

Hi Paula23,

thanks for the ideas. I love your submissions and the sketch of a shoe is great! The first logo is a bit hard to read with the words and shoe stacked. And the font makes it look like Coke instead of Cake. But I like the idea a lot. The second one is one of my favorites so far because of the shoe and the polka dots.

thanks!

Hi Paul,

I like this one much better. I like the contrasting fonts and the use of negative space. Can you make the smudge a different color (perhaps a rich brown or blue) and make it look like cake frosting? I somehow want it to be a bit more girly, you know?

thanks!

Hi All,

Thanks for the changes and new submissions! I like them all!

Going backwards, Paula23 V3: this is one of my top 3 favorites so far. I'd love to see it with an espadrille instead of a high heel, if you feel like it. I attached a picture of an espadrille as an example. Also - see bottom note for text change.

J.Johnson V4: a very cute idea and I like the fun and colors, but it's a little too literal for what I'm after, and if you read the bottom note, I probably can't use it right now anyway....

Gig V1: I like the idea, but the shoe isn't quite right. I'm wanting to see the ribbon of the espadrille and bit more fun (polka dots, girly colors, etc) in the logo if you feel like giving it another shot. See bottom note for text change.

djaka V2: thanks for trying again on this one, but I just don't think it's the overall look I'm after. I want something with rounder edges and more flirty details....

J.Johnson V3: very cute! I love the brown and pink color palette - I'd love to see this same logo using an espadrille instead of a high heel if you wouldn't mind... see bottom note for text changes.

M.Bleigh V3: nice idea! I love the candle at the end of the ribbon - very clever. The tagline is cute too. But I'd want to see a bit less detail in the overall picture. With the shoe, there's a lot going on for a shoe label; and I'd want to remove the plate (although it's a creative thought, it's a bit much for what I'm after)... also, see bottom note for text changes which will change this logo a bit.

I think that catches up my feedback on everything so far. Please let me know what questions you guys have - these are all very creative and I'm looking forward to more submissions!

On that note, can I see the following ones with Ann Roth Shoes instead of Cake Shoes? My lawyer is still looking into it, but I may have to wait and use Cake Shoes at a later time... Right now my company is registered as Ann Roth Shoes. The brown logo with the dots attached in my original post was the logo I was using before deciding to add the Cake brand.... I'd love to see what you guys come up with using the same ideas here (polka dots, bubbles, espadrilles) but with Ann Roth Shoes instead of Cake. I'm bummed to have to wait, but if anything I will just re-submit for Cake after it's certain that I can use it. For now, I'll need to change over to Ann Roth Shoes so I'd love to see what folks come up with along these same lines of fun, flirty, girly details....... and any new ideas you have are welcome!
The ones I'm particularly fond of and think would work with Ann Roth Shoes are:
- Paula23 V3 (using an espadrille instead of a high heel if you can)
- Ratbaggy V2 (using a different color instead of rust - maybe chocolate brown or pale blue?)
- Medigraph V1 (your original is the most visually appealling so I'd want to see it with Ann Roth Shoes - maybe it will work?)
- J.Johnson V3: Love the colors. (Can I see it with Ann Roth Shoes and and espadrille?)
:)
Thanks again, all! I'm looking forward to the new logos using my name. As soon as I'm sure that Cake Shoes isn't taken, I'll pay the $150 again and re-submit so I can use one of your brilliant ideas as my next line of shoes :):)

I love the font in Version 6 but I'd prefer a different espadrille (I really like the one that Paula23 used in her latest logos so something more along those lines). But I do like the layout of your Version 6, so thank you!!

Wow- what a treat to see all of the submission today! thanks! and thanks for making the recommended adjustments. You guys are good!

My favorites so far are Paula23 Version 9 and Medigraph Version 4. This is going to be a really tough decision and there are many days left before the Jan. 15th deadline, so feel free to keep submitting ideas!

Thanks again for all the awesome creativity. I'm inspired!
-Ann

PS - I didn't realize we weren't allowed to send private messages while the project is still open. I was just trying to cut down on all my blabbering if it didn't apply to everyone. Sorry! I will post everything here from now on.

On that note, Medigraph: can I see the espadrille sketch in Version 4 with a closed toe (instead of open). It's a minor adjustment, but I am just curious as to what it will look like. If you want to put a stripe or polka dot on the 'fabric' of the shoe, that might be interesting to see (like in Paula 23s most recent sketches). But overall, I love the cleanness and simplicity of your latest submission, so I want to keep that feeling.

thanks all!!

Thanks for the new submissions, guys!

I have to be honest, I am really leaning toward Medigraph's V4.... if anyone wants to submit something like that - very simple with a sketch of an espadrille, that's cool. Otherwise, I'm happy with it.

All of the design submissions are awesome! I will definately be using this service again for future projects!

Medigraph: can I be super picky and ask to see V4.1 with a more rounded toe and can you put the polka dots on it like you did in V4.3? I am so happy with your designs and you are very talented. I just want to see it as many different ways as I can before I make my final decision..... thanks!!!

Thanks for the changes, though I much prefer your earlier versions....

We are almost there! Let's go back to v4.1... I hope you don't mind but I played around with it in my extremely basic drawing software... can you make it look more like that? (attached file v4.1)?

Oh... and one more thing :) , can you make the ANN ROTH much darker and the SHOES just a little bit darker? I like that SHOES is lighter than ANN ROTH, but if you can just darken all of it keeping the same ratios, that would be great!!! thanks again!!

Hi Medigraph,

thank you for the new submission. but it isn't what I'm looking for.

I really want it to look just like the one I posted, so if you can use 4.1 as your starting point, that would be great. What I loved so much about your original logo was the 'chalky, sketched' feeling; and in V4.5, the toe area of the shoe is too defined. I've re-attached my rendering with notes. If you can take 4.1 and make the changes that I did (and noted), that would be great. Let me know if any of it doesn't make sense.

I've attached my notes on your 4.6 and compared it to the 4.1 that I edited... let me know if it doesn't make sense. Otherwise, I think we are almost there. The more you can make it look exactly like the 4.1 I edited, the better.

By the way, I like the rounded toe - good improvement!

Hi Medigraph,

Ok, I'm not sure how to communicate this to you. I don't mean to sound frustrated, but I don't think I am getting my point across. 4.7 is still not exactly what I want. If you can go back to my notes from 4.6 and look at the 4.1 that I edited ---- that is EXACTLY what I want it to look like.
4.7 is a bit too messy where the line looks overly smudged. If you can maybe start from your 4.1 and look at what I did to it, that might be easier than changing the latest editions b/c they aren't as close.

Sorry to sound harsh. I just really love the logo but I know exactly how I want it to look and it just isn't there yet.... but I know you can do it!

Can you just copy the 4.1 that I edited and save it in a better format? Let me know how else I can help. thanks,
Ann

Ann Hi,

Because v4.6 was the most closer to what you want, I worked on that. This time, I enlargened my work to fit your edited versions. This is because as you enlarge the raster images posted on the forum, some details are inevitably lost which are already OK in the vector format that I work with. As I will send you the files in vector format (so that you will be able to enlarge them without any detail lose), please let me know what is OK and what is not on this post - v4.6.1. Then I will be able to tell / work on what is possible and what is not.

Thanks :)

Hi Medigrah,

Guess what?? I LOVE it!! Thank you SO much for hanging in there with me. I am SOOO happy with the final outcome. Can I ask for one more tiny thing? Can you move the words up just a bit closer to the shoe? I just want to see how that looks on the shoebox....

I can't wait to hand it over to my web designer. Do you know if I have to wait until my original deadline of Jan. 15th or can I cut it off now so I can get the right format of the logo I chose?

I will read on the site and see what the rules say....

What I'll want for the final logos are: the pink one and the black one like you've been showing me; as well as just the words ANN ROTH SHOES in the same format that you have them (this will be to send to my shoe manufacturer so they can stamp it on the inside of the shoe)... does that make sense? I will ask my web designer what format she wants the logo in.

thanks again!! You have made one girl very very happy in this world and have designed the PERFECT logo for my company. :):)

Hi Ann :)
I'm glad you loved it. Here's a version with words closer to the shoe.

As far as I know, a client may announce the end of a contest anytime, but again better to check rules. And for the file formats, I 'll be sending them in vector format (easily resizable to any size), but if there are additional formats you like them in, please let me know.

Hi Medigraph,

thanks for moving the words closer. i am going to meet with my web designer today, so I'll ask her which is better.

the logo looks FANTASTIC! I know I said I was finished, but I just noticed something and I'm wondering if I can see one more change??

See my edits attached...

I don't want to change anything about the shoe other than the darkness of a few lines. I'm sorry I'm so picky!! I really really love it though and am so happy you submitted for it!!

Hi Ann,

I worked on these, but unfortunately if I am to do these modifications, then all our previous modifications will be overriden -I had to change/ignore all the previous effects in order to provide what you want- as these two effects use different type of brushes. In other words, an effect you want on a particular line couldn't be applied if you also want another effect on the same line. Let me show you how it looks, but as you see, all that small touches you like are gone :(.

Hi Medigraph,

Are you sick of me yet? I hope not! Thanks for the latest change. I see what you are saying about it changing the 'small touches' but I now like both equally well! I like the small details you worked so hard on in 4.6.4 but I also like the strength and continuity that the darker line adds in 4.6.5.....

I am going to sleep on it and let you know tomorrow. Either way, they are both FANTASTIC and I will have a logo that I LOVE. Thanks for all your hard work!

Hi Medigraph,

Ok, so it looks like 4.6.4 is the winner! Thanks for trying the other stuff.

Before you send me the final version though, can I see 4.6.4 with the ANN ROTH just a bit lighter (closer to 4.4)? I know I asked for it to be darker, but I'm wondering if maybe now it might be too dark? Let me know if there's no 'in between' if you would have to go back to the much lighter version.

Thanks!

Hi Ann,

I send you two versions, one is less lighter, and the other is more lighter. Please let me know what your idea is :).

Hi Medigraph,

Thanks for the new versions. Let's go with 4.6.4.1. I love it the way it is and I need to stop making changes or we're both going to go crazy!

I know my original deadline was 1-15 but I am ready to be done.

I wrote to the administrator of the site and I have to give a '24 hr' notice before I officially cut it off..

So... THIS IS MY 24 HOUR NOTICE FOR ANY LAST SUBMISSIONS. AS OF 11:55PM JANUARY 12 I WILL OFFICIALLY BE CLOSING THIS POST.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who submitted designs. I liked all of them in their own way and you are all very talented. I will definately be using and recommending this site from now on.

As of now, my final choice is 4.6.4.1 Medigraph. I will confirm once the deadline is over.

thanks again!

Hi Ann,

I am glad that you are satisfied with 4.6.4.1. It's been a pleasure for me to work with you. As you make the final confirmation on Jan 12th, I'll be sending you the final files.

Thanks,
Cem

Hi Medigraph,

Before we go with the final version, can I see 4.6.4.1 but with skinny (thinner) letters, more like they are in 4.2 (but keeping the letters close to the shoe like they are in 4.6.4.1)?? I'm sorry but I think I like them better if there is a way to keep them skinny and dark (black not grey)....

let me know what you think. thanks!

For the final version, the vector format is fine, and do you mind also sending it to me as a pdf, tif, or jpeg so I can view it on my computer?

Thanks again for all of your hard work!

Here it is and I think thinny letters are better :). I'll send you the files in those formats also.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. 4.6.4.3 is THE ONE.

Thank you so much, Medigraph!!! You did so much and it turned out to be EXACTLY what I wanted. Thank You!!

Do you need my email address to send me the files? I'm not sure how that works....

I'll provide you a link to download the files here as soon as possible. They will be too big in size to send with e-mail.

OK Ann, please download the files here >> (http://www.mayamedikal.com/ar/arfinal.zip). This zip file includes ai and eps files (vector) plus pdf and jpgs. Let me know if there is anything I can do further.

Thanks,
Cem :)

Thanks Cem!!

Could you also attach a PDF of the black and white logo?

Other than that, everything looks great. Thanks again. I'm looking forward to using this logo EVERYWHERE!!

Let me know if I can send you samples of where I use it for your portfolio (business card, shoe box, etc). I'd be happy to.

Thanks,
ann

I ll be attaching the PDF in about one hour.

I ll be glad to receive them, would you like to send the logo implementations as pictures or the originals? If you are going to send the implementations as pictures you can send them to my contact e-mail on my portfolio site. If the latter is the case you can also use my contact address on the same page.

But i have to warn you that i live at the other side of the ocean :). So if it is going to be difficult nevermind. Thanks for your attitude.

Best Wishes

Hi Clem,

Anatolia is in Turkey, right? That isn't so far. I think I could at least mail you a business card and/ or postcard :). I will take a picture of my shoe box and email it to you, how about that?

I just realized that the PDF (the only one I can open) has a small pink box and the word 'magenta' at the bottom... is there any way to remove that?

Thanks Clem,
Ann

Ann,

Please download the B&W pdf version here (http://www.mayamedikal.com/ar/annroth-bw.pdf). (Right click + Save As will also work)

And no magenta version of the color one here (http://www.mayamedikal.com/ar/annroth-nm.pdf).

You are right about Anatolia ;). It will be great to receive a business card and a photo if it will not cause any problem for you.

:)

Hi Cem (sorry I misspelled it last time :)),

One more thing? Can you send me the words ANN ROTH SHOES like they are in the logo, but without the picture? I need to send that to my shoe manufacturer to put on the inside of the shoe... eps and pdf formats will be great.

thanks!
