This project is to take the Logo just designed (see attached) and create a doublesided business card, letterhead that can be used for both correspondence and a business form (like invoices) and an envelope. The deadline for this is short Monday December 26 (it is now extended to December 28th). I have attached the jpeg of the logo for your review. I have PSD's and other stuff i don't understand. If you want more, please ask.

I am launching a new consulting company, Brightlight Consulting. The brand and image of the firm will be very important to us. We will focus as a consulting company that delivers services in the Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing area. This is the area of Information Technology where executives in a company need better access to information in order to make crucial, day to day decisions on company direction. We will have both Senior management consultants to help the business people understand their requirements and then architects and data modelers to help them and their IT department implement a process and technology solution to deliver the information they need in a simple to read report or dashboard.

We just completed the logo design and now need business cards, letterhead and envelopes designed and ready for printing. I would like these to all be on white paper, not on a colored stock. For background, here is some of the background I wrote up for the logo dessign...

Project Summary:

What type of product or service do you offer?

Consulting services to both business management and IT departments. The services help companies turn information into insight.

How long have you been in business?

Just starting...however in the industry for 20 years.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

We want the logo, color, font give us a credibility, professionalism and yet an approachable look that will help us establish the firm. We care deeply about establishing a longterm relationship with our clients. Our logo should also communicate trust and a commitment to quality delivery.

What are your long term goals?

I do not care how big the firm gets, but we want to develop lasting client relationships based on being trusted to take on the big, complex work they need done and delivering with a quality and thoroughness they expect from Big 5 firms, but with a more approachable and flexible style that makes us easy to work with.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

We intend to operate in the Western US, especially the Pacific Northwest. We will do business mostly with medium and large clients in the retail, financial services, high tech and transportations industries. Within an organization our contacts will be CFO's, CIO's, CMO's and COO's.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

Everyone above. We are just starting out.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

The name Brightlight has many images I like;

The brightlight that comes on when you gain insight
the brightlight that will guide you to what is lost
the brightlight that will show you the way to go
the brightlight to guide you through the dark

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

Hmm, I have always liked a dark olive color (seems sophisticated), along with a carmel or yellow(seems warm yet contemorary), but I'm also fine if the letters of the name are in black.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

Trust, quality, professional, reliable, approachable.

What is your tagline or slogan?

Under the name on our first stock card we say,
'business intelligence services" and "illuminating insight..inspiring innovation". I would like the card to have some texture on the back and the lines: "Business Intelligence Services"and then "the line "information-> insight->innovation" or we could go with the line above "illumionating insight, inspiring innovation"What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

Remember us! We are your local, trustworthy, professional, reliable Business Intelligence services provider.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

Focus: BI is all we do. Most everyone else supports dozens of consulting practices. This also gives us depth of experience.

Proximity: We hope to do most of our work in the Northwest, so we live in the backyards of our clients.

Unbiased: We are knowledgeable about all products and architectures in the BI space. Mosteveryone else has a product to push.

Flexible: We will adjust to the client, not make the client adjust to our way of doing things. We listen first.[B]

Thanks to all of you who have responded so far. I realize with the holiday season it may have been unrealistic to set a deadline the day after Christmas, so I am extending the deadline until Wednesday, December 28.

There are some good ideas expressed so far... here is some feedback:

Fran: I like the clean layout of your ideas. The letterhead in message 5 is nice, can we try a different look at the bottom besides the rays? Maybe just a line of color? The business cards in message 5 is nice, can we try the concept rotated to landscape? The message 6 business card is very nice. Can you add Business Intelligence Services on the back? I'd like bith messages on te back somehow.

Imot: In message 8, I like the business card layout. Can you play with the logo on the address side, seems too small. Also, I'd like to get Business Intelligence Services into the message. Perhaps the color section is too wide on the letterhead...

I'm still not seeing the total combination I like overall. Please keep trying...thank you!! Ask any questions you like.

Thanks for your input.... I'd like to see this with the original colors presented and perhaps change the wavey line to a more solid line. Also, perhaps without the sunburst at the bottom of the letterhead. Last, I would like to see the envelope with the design more on the left side. The right side will have stamps and that will clutter the design. thanks, mkettering

I want to thank everyone for some very creative an exciting entries on this project. thank you for all your hard work :notworthy

I have chosen Fran to finish this project. Fran was very in tune with the look and feel we want. Fran, enjoy your New Years break and we will pick this up on January 2nd. I still would like to work on your last entry. Not sure the solid line on the bottom works yet. We can talk about some ideas I have next week.

Congratulations and thanks. :D

Fran,

Welcome back!! I'm glad for the break from stationary, as I have been involved with the Web Template project taking place over on the Template section. I just gave it a week extension. If you do Web design, please feel free to join.

Anyway, Message 17 has the best design for us. Here are some ideas to help the design get closer to what we think we want:

1. Move bottom line: Can we try moving the line all the way at the bottom fo the page? Also, since I always want to highlight the website can you embed it in the bottom color line, reversed out?

2. Second idea: I'm wondering if instead of a solid line at the bottom, can I see what it would look like with a line at the bottom that fades to white at the upper edge, instead of a solid edge at the top. Still embed the web address in the solid part of the line and put the other address and phone information above the disolve.

BTW, our address information is:
24123 Northeast 45th Street, Redmond Washington 98053
Phone:425-503-1467
Fax 425-503-1466

3. Envelope: Repeat the look of the above 2 ideas for the envelope. however, I am thinking about putting the address on the other side of the envelope, on the flap, so remove the address from the bottom of the envelope.

4. Business card: It may just be my computer, but the mustard/carmel color you use seems a touch lighter than the original design. Can you try it a touch darker, just a touch. I like the business card with the colored background on the back side. On the front, can we try making the overall logo just a little larger?

5. Question, what does a company usually do for page 2 letterhead? Is it blank, or does it have the footer look and feel at the bottom?

Thanks and I will look forward to your revisions,

Mark

Hi Mark,
here is the revision for the version 1.
I made the line on the envelope smaller because I'm not sure it's possible to put something on the bottom right side for your country postal regulations. Could you maybe check it with your printer?
About business card, which information you need write on? And also for the letterhead which email address?
I used a darker pantone for mustard (#1385).
Thanks
Fran :)

For page 2 letterhead, usually it has a smaller logo and same graphic feel without any information.

OK, very good. I think we like the solid line better on the letterhead. the web address is brightlightconsulting.com (all lower case)

You should be able to put the line across the bottom of the envelope, with the matching web-address. also, we will not want the email address of info@brightlightconsulting.com. we just want people to come to our website and they can contact us there.

I like the address on the flap.

Business card. some of my team thinks the business card is still a bit old fashion, especially with the more contemporary look we seem to be going with on the website (see the template forums for our Website project). I do not want to make big changes to the card, but perhaps we can look at some font alternatives. We really have not standardized on a font for the company, website and business card. Can you show us a number of fonts that may give us a more contemporary look? Also, maybe experiment a little with the back of the card. Maybe with some comparitive ideas, we can see if we want to be more daring with the back of the card.

thanks,

Mark

good ideas...OK, so to elimiate some stuff...I don't like the card with the black section at the bottom. Also, I'd rather not have a card with three colors, due to the expense. how about if we tried the olive and mustard b-card without the red line at the top? also another idea, what about the olive green line at the bottom being the same width as on the letterhead? along that line, can we also try showing the front of the card with the mustard line on the front with the web address in it?

Also what is the name of the 2 fonts you are showing us? any other candidates? We are getting close... 8^)

Wow, lots of choices! Which one of these is the original font from the previous versions? Its hard to tell on a computer screen. It seems like Univers.

Also, can you tell me what the font is on the logo?

Not sure about the green strip on the front of the card. Can I see the line in the mustard shade across the bottom of the front?

Last, your red, green and mustard card is popular with my team. Can I see a version without the red strip, but with the green strip at the same hideth as on that version. And a version with the red stripe, in the original font from all earlier versions.

Excellent work. Thank you

Fran

Hi Mark,
these versions are with the original font (DIN Schrift) of the earlier proposals.
I could ask to your logo designer which is the font he used.

Very nice, so I would like to see a couple of things to finalize a couple options. We like the top option, but two requests:

1. Can we see the top option with the red stripe across the top, like in the third option.

2. Can we try a different arrangement on the text on the back. Business Intelligence Services would be in the mustard section above and in the green section below we would want:

INFORMATION --> INSIGHT--> INNOVATION

Those are supposed to be arrows, which suggests that informaiton leads to insight leads to innovation. Use your own judgement on the style and spacing of the arrows.

I am showing your work to a printer for feedback tomorrow. Thanks Fran,

Hi Fran,

While I have been off line I have been shopping printers and I think I have found a good printer to work with. He is willing to do a mock up of the card on this brand new high end digital printer that will allow me to afford 4 color on the card. He promises it will look just like off-set(we'll see...)

Anyway, he would like to get a file of the business cards in the Native file format of what ever program you used for the design, as well as the filew for the logo and the fonts.

In terms of design, I'd like to add one line to the first version so in the mustard area it will say

integrating information
illuminating insight
inspiring innovation

Business Intelligence Services will still be across the bottom.

also, if you can return my information to the card.

Let me know. I will also want a file for the letterhead and envelope.

Thanks,

Mark

Well it turns out you were right. The printer has said the mustard line all the way across the bottom is a postal department violation.

So, can we revisit the envelope and consider a different approach? I'm open to any ideas. Maybe look again at the partial line, long enough for the web address along the bottom. The rule just says the lower right half of the bottom must be clear. Another idea may be to put the line going vertically up the left side of the envelope...if that doesn't crowd the logo.

Anyway, the printed mock up looks great!

Thanks,

Mark

Can I see option 2 a little wider? The web address looks a little too constrained. al;so, I'd like to see it with the address on the otherside. I'm told by the printer, my cost goes WAY down if I don't bleed and put the address on the same side as the Logo and mustard line. Thanks,

We like the last offering, but I'm wondering if we can try a few changes or options.

1. Can we try moving the Logo over to the left a bit...it seems to be hanging out there a bit by itself.

2. Can we try the address line up under the logo? Either as one line or split into 2 lines.

3. Can we also see if by any chance a non-bleeding verticle line with the webaddress works? This would also require the address to be on the front, either under the logo or on the bottom.

Also, My partner is asking if we can get the business card and stationary sent to us as a .psd file as well as the native files, when we are all settled on this. This way we can look at it on our computers. We also want to check the colors.

Thanks Fran,

Mark.

Hi Mark,
here are some proposals for envelope.
Of course I can give you the psd files, but just for viewing, because the better thing for printing is always the vector files.

The first revision here is the right choice, I like the vertical line and this will make a great envelope.

Also, Can you please layout my partners card and send a file on it. He has more information and want to make sure it will all fit to your design;

I alway like it better when the email address is directly under the name/title, but I will leave that to your design instincts.

Once I see this I will ask for a new file with this card and the stationary file. Thanks ever so much Fran... :) :)

Very good. I think we will go with the first alternative of those three on David's business card.

So, can you zip up the vector file on that and the PSD as well as the stationary with the new envelope design (the verticle non bleeding line) and send that from private mail? Thanks again!!

I am trying to get the printer to run cards today.
