We make wine for people and they bottle it and take it home. We are a classy organization looking for an elegant, yet fun logo, if possible.
Customer service is our niche as we are well respected in our city.
I would like a logo that's easy to recognize, but makes a statement at the same time. I would like to hear, "oh, Yes! I know that place!"
We have a picture on the side of our building. I'm not sure how to do it otherwise as I'm relatively new to the internet. The interior of our store is burgundy and Terra Cotta coloured. We are a very HANDS ON business and we constantly interact with and assist our customers. If we can work a human element into the logo, I'd like to see some ideas.

Hi, Michele :)
We usually ask our clients to reply some questions so that the designers have more information about the company before starting the logo. Here's the list of questions: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7819
It would be very helpful for us if you posted your answers here. :)
Thanks in advance :)

Text on main part of logo should be ..... Bella Vino!
We supply people with Wine making supplies for retail, but the majority of our business comes from making wine on our premises and having the customer come in to bottle it and take it home.
This location has been open for 1 year, but our other 2 locations, under a different name have been open for 7 and 9 years.
I hope to attract interested people as well as curious passers by. We need to inform our cisomers that the process of making wine is very easy. Unfortunately, our government has restricted us in what we can say and advertise, that often our cutomers get the first impression that they have to come in and do all the work. But how do you tell a customer that its fun, its easy with a logo? Can we get that in there somewhere?
We hope to accomplish individuality with our new logo. A step beyond the others.
Our long term goals as a company are to expand this location to full capacity and to hopefully franchise out to other cities and townships in Ontario and the U.S. Unfortunately, our name is being used in the U.S., so moving our company stateside will be under a different name. Most likely under The Wine Rack which is already incorporated within our family. So, for now and the next few years, we''ll stay in Ontario.
the deadline for final entries is January 23rd.
Our existing clients range from 25 years plus. most are in their late 40's 50's, retired and elderly. They like their wine and they often talk about dinners and hot tubbing with friends. Relaxation is the key to wine drinking. Conversation, dinner and friends.
I would like to add more 30-45 year olds to my client list.
Colours: Burgundy, because my wall is already set and interior of store is same. Gold is a trim option. My original font was Curlz and my busines cared looked really fun. But I don't feel its the right way to go, so I'm phasing it out slowly.
I would like to see a wine glass or grapes or both incorporated into the logo.
Our slogan is What a Difference the Juice makes!
Attributes I would like reflected. Simplicity, fun, with a touch of class.
Overall message to convey, Its Fun, Its Easy.
Logo will be used on all letterhead, envelopes, business cards and advertisements in local newspapers.
My competitors are "Ole Reverside Winery"
Coral Creek
Just Cork It
Cheers to You
Borelli Cellars
jakes brew
Most of them dont have logos, just font used on their names.
Coral creek's is simple, but boring. Close to my location
Olde reverside, my closest competitor doesn't have a logo.
Borelli Cellars doesn't have logo, but their slogan is :your personal winery.
Jakes has cool logo, but it caters to beer-making more than wine. Its a yellow and green ring with a big fat Jake's running thru it. Looks like a beer can logo.
Wine Kitz . no logo
What sets us apart? We are the only store that gets our juice imported from Italy, France, Germany and Australia. All of our competitors get their juice from Ontario (bleck!) and California, then they make recipes to get as close as they can to a Chianti or Bordeaux or Reisling, etc.
We are extremely proud of this fact.
Should add that we help a lot of brides by making wine for their weddings at a fraction of the cost of liquor store wines. In addition, our wines are not made with sulphites or preservatives, so, no hangovers!!
Single-minded phrase: What a Differnce the JUICE Makes!
or Qualtiy European Wines Made Here.

Note to Medigra[ph re message #12. I love this and most of the chicks like it too. A few guys are saying good things about it as well. I was worried about it being a little sexualised, but the guys said they don't feel that way at all, so, great! Could you worak a bit on the slogan underneath? Its a little too small or something. It doesn't grab me and make me read it. Possibly bolder? Thanks!

re message #12: Could you take the bun out of her hair and make it swoop down toward the title?
Also, I know the whole idea is to make the picture obscure, but if you could design the glass part to paybe make it look a little more detailed. Maybe a small pointed hand. Comments are that its hard to see that she's holding a wine glass.
Cheers!

To Kassi re Message #18. This is a big favorite! Could you please change slogan to Quality European Wines Made Here, all upper case, and make that print a litle darker?
I'm really impressed by all of these designs and having a hard time choosing. We're getting very close!
Oh yeah, Please take the oak leaf off of the bunch of grapes and replace with a grape leaf. I'd like a mixture of grape and oak leaves on the whole thing, if you can.

Message to Medigraph.
I love your design with the woman holding the wine glass. I'm getting mixed reactions from others. Because we want to franchise in the future, do you think the woman may be sexualizing the wine making process? Should we incorporate a man into the design as well, or will it look too much like "He said, she said"?
Can you modify one thing on the design, and make her hair swoop down to a point as opposed to a bun?
Thanks
xoxo

Hi Michele,
As answer to your question: The reason I use a woman is basically related to the product/brand personality of wine. I conceptualize wine as a feminine product, such that beer is masculine, to give an example. Product personality is extremely important to convey the very basic idea about the product and the brand, so that consumers can form brand associations without any confusion. In this context, using a woman does not mean that this wine is consumed only by women, but it conveys a message of mildness, warmness, being nurturing (nature-grapes), and the European look gives an idea about the product's origin. Finally, it is "Bella" Vino. This is how I perceive your product, and therefore I don't recommend incorporating a man :)
I hope the revision you asked is close to what you have in mind:

Hey kassi!
Not quite a grape leaf yet, you're getting there.
Also, after further reviwe from friends, your logo is looking like a favourite. Can you put a wine glass on the left of the B? I'd like it to look somewhat like the design from message # ....hold on I have to go back and get it. I'll get back to you

I haven't chosen a Winner yet. My "Mommy" and her beau are on vacation, and yes, like a good girl, I appreciate her opinion and his. Yeah it sounds wimpy, but its forever, just like the logo.
so, I need a few more days. They are back on Thursday and I will be holding a dinner party (with lots of wine involved), with friends and family to choose a winner. I'm sure there will be a few tweakings required, but we'll have a winner all the same by Saturday or next Monday.
Medigraph, pracus, Paula and Kassi are looking good, but only one will come. I may opt to buy another design just to use on my website and just for having the option, so there may be two winners.
I'm a Libra. You know what that's like!?! Can't make up my mind to save my life. The balancing act is just a front for our insanity!

To follow are three different samples . . .
Version 2a: The same as my most recent samples except a new attempt at the grape leaf.

Version 2b: I added a wine glass before the "B" as requested and also has the new grape leaf attempt incorporated.

And lastly Version 2c: I added the wine glass between "Bella" and "Vino" just to experiment with its placement.
Looking forward to your comments and hoping I'm closer to what you had in mind for the grape leaf. Again, please feel free to request any further tweaking or changes you would like to see made.
I'm going to go to sleep now, and dream about grape leaves ... LOL!

Dear Pracus,
Viewers would like to see wine glass spilling wine into the V instead of the bottle because the bottle is still too small. It looks like a chocolate lequer bottle because the area is too small to fit a big bottle in. No insult intended I assure you. But please try a wine glass.
Thanks!

Here's how things played out:
I was unable to get the latest updates, so I will forward e-mails to everyone who was at the dinner party and more if possible, because I like a lot of the changes.
I asked everyone to give me their first, second and third choices.
So, for each designer that was cosen, I will list the 1,2,3 votes.
Kassi version 2b= 1,1,1,1,1,2
Medigraph version 2&3 = 1,3,3
Pracus version#3 = 2,2,2,2,3,3,1,2,2,3,1
Pracus Version #4c = 123
Paula version 2 = 1,2
AFter we thought about it, some ideas changed, so I need to tweak a couple. I will get back to each of you re possible changes.

Kassi'
Yours obviously got the most votes. When we held your's up next to Paula's and looked at it froma distance, Paula's stood out and was easier to read.
The font you are using is Very Savoie faire and we love it. Is there any way you can perhaps keep the same idea but spread it out or make it slightly more upright to make it easier to read? I want to try it, but I love what you've done so far.
Also, I was your change to the glass, but can you goe een further left with the glass and slightly taller? The viewers wanted to see the script be more burgundy than purple as well.
Good luck!
Cheers!

Paula,
We love the wine glass but they didn't like that the slogan was too light. They don't like the rainbow effect. Also, Can you change the slogan to Quality European Wines Made Here.
Another comment they had was they were concerned about whether or not your idea with the font may go out of style? Not sure.
michele
01-28-2006, 11:09 AM
Pracus,
A lot of comments about yours, but one big one that the Grapes hanging off the V makes it look like it says "Wino". They didn't like the "Bella" being so small. But liked ti spilling wine concept.
If you'd like to modify, that would be great!

Re version 3c:
A tone of "Oh, I like this one! It says it all. Mom likes the glass sten around the I and that you fit everything into a small space. Still don't like the colour of the green though. It looks too seventies and afraid it might become outdated.
Any ideas changes, please forward.

Re: version 23;
Mom like it, but didn't vote for it as it looks like a peel and stick label. I like it, so I thought perhaps you could get rid of the border and perhaps fade into the edges instead. Or will that take away form the design? Your thoughts, please. Sen some ideas if you're not bored of it yet.

How do I pick up a private message?
I'm duh about all of this.
Anyway, my requests are, I'll try to make it brief:
i got a lot of flack for choosing this one. I love it and have done some more homework with customers, and so far I am winning my argument.
However, they did make some suggestions which I would like to try out.
I know that your idea was that woment make wine and drink it, but I have an overwhelming # of men who make wine with me too.
Can we try to put a man in on the other side?
Just quickly to get an idea.
Also, the version i chose was the wrong one. I wanted the one with the font like in version 3.1. If a problem, please let me know.
Can you make the slogan larger or more bold? If you need to got o two lines, that's fine!
Look forward to your response,
Have a great night!

Hello Michele,
With respect to your requests about the revisions you sent via PM, here they are:
This first shows only the girl, with the font of version 3.1, tagline size increased to make it recognizable, the size of the glass is also increased and made bolder.

In this second one, in addition to all the revisions above, a man is also incorporated. I put him next to the girl, otherwise using the image without the text becomes impossible, and confuses the viewer about where to focus at.
Regards :)

I was just given some advice that her nose is too pointy and the shape of her face is wierd.
Is there anything we can do?

Here's a revision to fix the nose and the face. Yet this is a stylized drawing, and therefore everything may not be as real as life :)

Dear medigraph,
I'm ready to look at this again. I was getting a lot of comments re the logo looking too girlish, but I don't care about that, other comments that its too cartoonish. A number of good comments as well.
So, could you please move the girl to the left of Bella Vino so that there's not a lot of wasted space in the top left corner.
My brother in law tried it that way with a cut and paste and I quite liked it!
I will want to put this sign on the side of my building after doing a bit of surveying.
Because I chose this design, I'm not sure if we can change it very much, yes, no? I dont want you to be overworked. When you feel we've surpassed the payment limit, please notify me. I will either decide on finishing and perhaps paying for a new one depending on how the survey goes.
Anyway, if you can make that one change, also inclue the wesite address in it, I will check it out Wednesday or Friday.
Until then,
Take Care,
Michele

Hello Michele,
Good to hear from you again. The revision you asked is below. As you also have stated, I don't think that more changes are possible as we usually go with one or two minor revisions after a design is selected. This is already the 10th revision and as some four months have passed since the deadline, I'd rather prefer a finalization on the project.
Thank you.

Awesome!
Could you make the font Lucida Calligraphy just to see it?
That is the font we use on our T-shirts, and we like it, so if you could please try it and we'll choose either one.
Ciaou Bella!

O.K. My new employee just thought we should also try putting the words to the left of her head to use up the blank space, and still have her hanging off the right side of the logo. This way, the last thing th viewer sees is still the logo of the girl.
Can we try thiw as well?

And with the girl on the right. If you are settled with any, I'll prepare the final file package, so that you (or Abby) can upload it for your flyer project.
