I represent a non-profit Dodgeball tournament that is set to begin on or around February 1st. There are several goals of our league, amongst which are 1) foster social networking, 2) promote physical fitness, and 3) fund raising. You can read more details about Dodgeball Miami on our website (http://www.dodgeballmiami.com).

We envision a leauge that will grow to include several age classes, but at the moment 75-100% of the league participants will be in the 20-30 age group, comprised of young professionals and college students from Miami.

This logo project is officially only for the Dodgeball Miami logo, however I would also like any suggestions/improvements made to our "mascot." The details are at the bottom.

I would like a fun and goofy logo that might get a chuckle or even a laugh out of those that see it. I would also like to include the motto "Dodge, duck, dip, dive and uhh...dodge." in the image, which is from Dodgeball The Movie.

I don't really have any specific ideas in mind, other than general preferences:

1. Please keep the colors already presented in the website. Feel free to add any complementary accents/colors.
2. I'm partial to clean designs - clean in the sense that I don't like ornate patterns or caligraphy-like fonts.

Here are some designs I like:

Message 18 (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9491&page=1&pp=30) (again)
Message 6 (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9538)

SECONDARY: I would also like our "mascot" spruced up a bit. I am happy with what our amateur designed, but after seeing some of the ideas you guys have come up with for other clients, I've been really amazed. Maybe you can modify the image to match the logo. You guys really have some amazing talent!!!

Thanks for considering this project!

Here is my take on your project. I am a little reluctant though to use the slogan, since it is from a well known movie. I'd like to avoid any possible problems there.

Looking forward to your comments.

Many thanks,

Kassi :)

Kassi –

That looks great! I love the variation of the mascot, including how you exposed the belly and especially the “thumbs up”. I also like the integration of the ball in the logo – very nice.

A few things I would change:

The “goggles” look more like sunglasses than athletic eye protection. I’m not sure if I like that look yet – I might have to get used to it.
The mascot’s arm looks to be in an awkward position. I don’t want people to get any subconscious hints of pain!
Is it possible to make the sneakers look more athletic without having the detail distorted at smaller image sizes?
The logo (font, sizing, color, placement) is sharp and to the point. Although I like it very much, I’m interested in seeing what else you might have up your sleeve.

Thank so much for your submission!

About the slogan: I certainly do not want to open any designers to any infringement issues. However, isn't that liability transfered to me once I begin using the logo? I'm also not a for-profit business. I was under the impression that I would be allowed to use the slogan because of this. I really like the idea of using the tag line, because people may more closely associate the league with the movie, which is exactly my intention. The idea is to increase exposure. I would accept all responsibility for copyright issues, but of course if you do not feel comfortable, by all means leave it out. It will not affect my choice of a winner.

I'm glad you're pleased with the initial direction. Now that you pointed it out, his arm is looking quite awkward. I'll fix that up as well as work on your other suggestions.

Thanks!

Here are the revisions. I thickened the frames on his goggles and made the glass area lighter, added some detail to his shoes to make them look more like sneakers, and also reworked his arm to make it look more natural (his pinky finger is sticking out ever so slightly just to give him a little bit of extra character). I'm still in the process of working on some other possibilities for the logo, but thought I'd post what I have completed at this point. -- What do you think?

Thanks again,

Kassi :)

Kassi -

The new arm position looks great. Much more natural and comfortable. I like it!

The lenses are still a little dark for my tastes. Can I see what a lighter shade looks like?

Thank you again for your submissions, and I look forward to your future versions.

I'd like to gauge some interest and see if anyone else is designing for this project. I would like to see what other ideas are floating around.

Thank you!

Here is another idea for the text of the logo. I also lightened the lenses of the goggles.

Thanks!

Kassi -

Thanks again for your ideas. I'm definitely liking the clear lenses much better on our mascot.

I'm not exactly into the new logo however. I'm not sure if it's because it lacks the color variation of the first, or if it's the font. However, I do like the "o" replaced with an actual dodgeball.

Overall, I like the first logo better.

At this point I'm a little unsure if anybody else is planning on designing. Just a quick reply is all it takes to let me know!

Kassi, I really like your ideas but I've always been a fan of competition. I'm interested in seeing what other designers can throw into the mix.

Thanks for your feedback. I understand that you'd like to wait for other submissions. In the meantime, I've tried revising my last logo idea here, with a new font while maintaining the colour variation of the first logo.

Many thanks,

Kassi :)

Awesome, some more ideas!

Imot - thank you for your participation. I love your concept and design. I like how you integrated the ball in both the mascot and the logo. Thanks as well for including the slogan.

A few ideas for another revision if you're considering further participation. I don't know what it is, but kassi's mascot looks more "athletic". I know it makes no sense to call a fat guy athletic, but something about it screams 'DODGEBALL'. I think it might be that your logo's stance (with his arms spread widely apart) gives the wrong image.

Could you also try to make your logo more cartoonish? I want to have somewhat of a goofy flair to the logo.

Again, thanks so much for your submission!!

Kassi - I don't like that latest font too much. I think the only aspect of it that I don't like is the capital "M" in miami. Were it not for the curvature at the bottom of the two legs of the letter, I would probably like it much better. Wierd how a single letter can have such a dominating presence.

Hi, here's my try. It's a bit of a different look.

Here is an updated version with a new font that I think works very nicely with the mascot. What do you think?

Many thanks,

Kassi :)

Here's something else...

Wow! It's so exciting to see all this participation - and so near the deadline too!

imot - I very much like your second version. I think you nailed the font - very close to what I was looking for. Can you make the logo bigger in relation to the mascot. I would also like to see the placement of "Dodgeball" above "Miami.com." This is not an absolute requirement as I'm still considering all concepts, but I'm just curious to see what it looks like. Can you also play around with the color variations? I like the updated bandana on the mascot, but I'm still leaning towards Kassi's rendition.

Bethie - Hello and welcome! Your design definitely caught me off guard. It definitely strayed somewhat from the norm and I love it. However, I don't particularly care for the stars on the ball. They overwhelm the rest of the design and steal the focus away from the logo. I would also prefer horizontal placement of the Dodgeball Miami.com logo rather than a diagonal orientation. Could you also try a different font. Please read what I wrote about imot's font - it's fantastic.

Kassi - I think we're very much nearing a final verion with yours, it's almost perfect. I'm extremely happy with your overall design and concept. However, this latest font is too "bubbly". I very much like the font that imot used in his second version. I would like to see your variation.

Aron - Hello and thank you so much for participating. I must say, although I like your design, I don't like the blue color you chose. I would like a color scheme that goes well with the website. Also, could you add some dimension to the mascot? He appears to be a little "flat".

Thanks again to everyone. Let's get in some final versions! I'm very excited to integrate these designs into the final website. It's going to be very difficult to decide.

It is time...

Thank you all so much for participating. I really enjoyed all of your ideas and designs. They are all wonderful.

However, we feel that the design that best captures Dodgeball Miami's spirit is Kassi's design. Congrats Kassi, and thank you for all your hard work!

Thanks for choosing my design! Are there any further changes you would like to see made or are you ready for the files package?

Thanks again,

Kassi :)

Could you make the "G," "E," and "A" in "DODGEBALL" lowercase? I like how the two "i"s in Miami are lowercase. It adds character to the logo, if that makes any sense. I'm curious to see this final design with and without the white/black outline around the logo. After that, I'll be ready for the files.

Thanks again, you've been so kind. :)

Kassi, I also have a small project for a "1-2-3" balloon which illustrates the three steps to get signed up for Dodgeball Miami. I need something simple, but matches the site. Maybe the three steps embedded within a dodgeball? In any case, I enjoyed your designs and it may be easier for your to do this, since you can integrate some of your previous ideas. I would like to start a new thread and would like you to participate. I anticipate that the contest will not last longer than a few days, and I will end it early when I recieve your submission. Is $40 reasonable?

Here are the three steps, in case you want to brainstorm:

1. Get 5 friends.
2. Register.
3. Play!

Kassi

Sure I will have the changes in the text for you today as soon as I can. I'll also show you how it looks with and without the black outline.

I'm definitely interested in working with you on the balloon icon designs. You can either start a new thread and hold it as another contest, or I'd be happy to work on it with you exclusively. The choice is of course yours. Regardless, thanks for the heads up ... my brainstorming has already started. ;)

Up late, huh? Hehe.

I love them both - I can't decide. Can I use both, but for different areas of the website?

Yeah, I'm usually up pretty late.

Sure I can provide you with both, no problem. Are there any further changes you would like to make, or is everything to your approval?

Many thanks,
