hello people,

this is a question for Palmer or anyone else. what forms of advertizing do you use to get traffic to your site(s) ,,any service or site that you work well with?

things like affiliating with sites etc, sig advertising, and purchased advertising does a lot too.

Sig advertising does work - I found Sitepoint through clicking on Wayne Luke's sig line at VB forums after he helped answer a few questions for me, which ultimately led me here.

it helps to have a beefed up image in your sig to promote the link too

Right now I have a campaign going with Google Adwords. It hasn't produced any contests but the traffic and referrals have been up substantially. I'm hoping the visitors will bookmark the site (getting my awesome favicon.ico) ;) and returning in the future to post a contest.

I also have an arrangement with Jeff (ImageConstrux) in the works as well as getting listed in various business and webmaster resource directories. Some of the members of the Design Team have links from their sites as well as a link in their signature from other forums they belong to.

I'm hopeful things will pick up here in a few weeks since we recently also were crawled by Google and other search engines. That's what I have going at the moment. I'm open to suggestions. Although I prefer to use free methods of promotion, I'm willing to spend some money if I think the results will make it worth it. The profits are pretty much nil at this time so free is better :)

I'm sorry maybe I misunderstood your post. Are you looking at ways of promoting your own business? I thought you were asking how I'm promoting DO.

For web designers, The Firm List (http://www.firmlist.com/) is the best place to start. After that I'd get listed in DMOZ in your towns local section. You can also do a search in Google. Something like web design directories or something similar to find places to submit your site to. Be prepared, most of them want a reciprocal link. I need to set up some kin of links page for this site for that reason alone. It's kind of funny, I just realized I have a links directory at YourWebBuddy.com and I haven't listed Design Outpost... DOH! :)

If you create a small 88x31 button, i would be happy to link you, or we could affiliate :)
