(admin code added by Palmer - 8712314)

Time to get me a "real" logo for hockeyfights.com (http://www.hockeyfights.com). The font I have there now is pretty cool, but I'm looking for something a bit more symbolic now.

Styles I like:

Thrashers (bird with stick)
http://www.laughinghyena.net/LogoServer/ho...taThrashers.GIF (http://www.laughinghyena.net/LogoServer/hockey/AtlantaThrashers.GIF)

The Stony Brook Seawolves have a decent logo:
http://goseawolves.ocsn.com/
So do the Buffalo Bulls:
http://www.ubathletics.buffalo.edu/index.shtml

A side element of the Sabres "B" with the sword (sabre) through it would be a cool bonus.
http://www.laughinghyena.net/LogoServer/ho...faloSabres2.GIF (http://www.laughinghyena.net/LogoServer/hockey/BuffaloSabres2.GIF)

What I like about them: Professional looking, non-cartoony, simplistic, with low number of colors used very well.

I am looking for: smooth and modern.

I am not looking for: silly, cartoony, over-detailed or anything that may mock the element of the game my visitors love so much.

Think grit, toughness. There are quite a few sites with pictures and such if you want to look around and get an idea of concept. I'll help out with any specific questions you have.

Vector format only, I prefer Illustrator, but I guess any will do - I need to be able to change sizing of this and make some banners, slap it on a tshirt, etc. Depending on what I do with it (meaning what merchandise I sell), I'll send the winner a bonus item of their choice as well.

*** Deadline extended - currently the 31st now.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Hiya, thanks for the submission.

My feedback: not quite the imagery I was looking for. It must be hockey only, no boxing (I don't want it to seem like a sport inside a sport, as I try and promote it as part of the game; which it is). I was also possibly looking for something more unified, rather then a couple of things at once (although if it strikes my eye I guess it'd be ok), but I see the hockey player, the ring and the gloves a bit separate (despite the gloves hanging on the ring).

The font I currently use isn't so bad in terms of style, and I'm probably not looking to stray from those colors much. I also don't know if I want to caps the letters of the words. I do like seeing font variants though, because I wouldn't mind getting rid of all the shadowing I'm using (as it makes it quite hard to read when made small).

I don't mean to be overly critical, I'm just trying to be constructive (towards anyone joining this one).

Thanks again!

Very cool, starting to get some entries.

My thoughts:

ElKootcho - It's a bit too hockey generic, I am looking to get some "tough" imagery in there.

ejlain - Not bad, but maybe a bit too graphic/grusome for a logo. I have to represent the fighting as part of the game, but not quite glorify pure violence and gore (as much as some may like it) :)

ondarox - I'm not fond of the circle and the "blast"-ish background, although I don't mind the idea (I think it's just the style here). I also am not looking for a sketch-style logo. However - your concept of the fight is the best so far. A guy with his fist cocked back might be a fun thing for a few to play with. Good stuff there.

My font thoughts are the same as what I've written above.

I hope this helps all. I also hope I'm not coming off harsh (if I am, super sorry). Even though I'm not jumping on anything yet, it's really cool to see some ideas forming. Thanx!

Maybe something like this? The background is meant to represent a hockey puck. And goalies are the toughest of all!

Hi. 2 more ideas.
Thanks

Sparkie - Definitely not goalies, sorry. And I am looking for some color.

ejlain - Not too bad. Out of the 2, I like the top one better. Things I would change: definitely the color, I'm not a fan of that orange fitting into my site. I also like the font more. I do not want to break up the words, and I'm still not looking to capitalize the H & F (when the others are lowercase). If anything can also be tweaked, it'd be the legs. The legs are still a bit "land-ish". If you could look at some pics from games to see how legs look (with equipment, and then skates), that'd be cool.

If someone also wants to make one of these fight poses with just one player, that might not be a bad idea either.

I'll try and post a video or two later on so perhaps people can get more ideas flowing.

Hi guys,
So glad to see more coming :)

ejlain - I liked your first concept a bit better. There's something about the artistry in this last one I'm not too fond of (that's from a Probert pic, right?).

QSDA - Nice style on the outline there. Is it possible to see that with a straight font? Perhaps also with no background? (I'll take a guess that you used a Scott Parker pic for this).

I do like the single player pose (he's "squaring off" in QSDA's entry for those unfamiliar). I do like that, and when a guy is just about to punch. I also like the solid color inside the logo (no little lines needed for detail). My font thoughts remain the same as the last couple of messages.

Low vs Stock (http://216.197.121.165/cf/020121_low_stock.avi)
Probert vs Severyn (http://216.197.121.165/cf/981013_probert_severyn.avi)

First things first - I'm extending this another week. I'll modify my first post to say that...

Ed - cool concept. That blue is a little too bright, and unfortunately the poses of the guys aren't really hockey fight-esque (if that makes sense). You'd never really see two guys like that, and I need to represent it a bit more accurately (even if this is an illustration).

Many times in a fight guys helmets are off, you guys can have the helmets off if you want - or - have it off of one guy who's taking a punch.

I hope you don't mind if I chip in to help out here.

I'm a Red Wing fan myself, which was the home for two of the most feared heavyweights in the NHL. Ever. Bob Probert and Joey Kocur.

Here's a link to a site with pages full of Probie kicking the snot out of all kinds of guys. Maybe one of those could be edited and rasterized (??) to something that'd work.

Hi all, back from my weekend, hope you all had good ones...

I'll try and think of some specific ideas to toss around to see if anyone wants to give them a try.

Here's my first idea...
Just the rough concept.
It can be cleaned up and refined.
Can also be done in blue to match your website as is.

dmsinger
07-22-2003, 10:37 AM
ejlain - is it possible to see that with my site's colors and the current font I'm using (I'm trying to look up the name)?

westiswest - I'm looking to use a fight or a fighter's pose as a logo. That might make a cool icon somewhere, but I'm not looking for a logo like that. It is cool, but sorry.

Hey there! here's my entry. I can move stuff around if you want, but I think this way it would look good on things like Tshirts, mugs. etc. It's in Illustrator format and any change is possible, just say the word!

ejlain - Could you make a couple of more tweaks? I like the latest post of yours, but the one at the top. Could you flip the jersey colors of one of the guys (the one with his back towards us preferable)? While some guys may go at it during training camp, can't have the same jerseys fighting each other :) This is in vector format, correct?

Sorry guys, the other logos just posted seem a bit video game/cartoony; not the look I'm going for.

Here's a more lifelike one.

Christian
07-29-2003, 08:19 AM
Here's the white version. The lines may seem a bit rough on this one, but the vectored one is, of course, smooth. If you want anything at all changed or tweaked, just say the word!

Sorry, didn't appear on the other post.

This is another version. The black curves are not vectored but when vectored they will look smooth.
