Hey everyone,

We have a client who is looking for an identifiable cartoon for a series of newsletters/publications called "Sneaky Little Tricks". He's looking for identity much like the little penguin on Penguin Books, or the "face" on the "...For Dummies" books.

He's looking for a little guy in a trench coat with dark glasses and a wand, OR a little merlin-type character, so let's see both of these ideas. He's envisioning a small guy, sort of "midget-like" (his words) that is very easily identifiable even if it's a small image.

Any clarification, just ask.

Looking forward to your ideas and designs!

What is your deadline date? We recommend 7 to 10 days.

Hi,
I am not sure if such a thing is what you meant by a "merlin-type" character, feedback appreciated :).

Thank you for all of your ideas so far! Sorry about not setting a deadline, let's say Monday, Jan. 30, although it is very likely our client will choose a winner before then.

Thanks!

Just want to let everyone know, our client had a family emergency last night and is out of the office today, and possibly tomorrow, so it will be a little while before I can get feedback from him.

Thanks for understanding!

Hey everyone - thanks for being patient. Our client is looking more for what Alex submitted the second time, and what Christian submitted. He asked me to give you a link to take a look at the guy at the top - something that's cartoony, and will be easily identifiable with anything else the illustrator would put it on:

Just a note, our client is not looking for something "animated" in a technical sense, but in an artistic sense and animated character comes across very strongly.

Let's see what ideas you can take from that suggestion from our client.

Thanks everyone!

Here's a more animated version of the previous design :)

A question to the client: what would you change in my second entry in order to make it better? :)

good question, I'll try to get his feedback ASAP. Sorry for running past the deadline, between his family emergency and our office move, communication has been scarce. Thanks for yoru patience every one!

Ok everyone, thank you so much for your patience. Alex, regarding your question, our client said that the wizard looks much more menacing than sneaky, like he's lecturing a little kid instead of revealing sneaky little secrets.

Christian, our client also likes your concept (most recent submission) but feels like it's not quite identifiable enough, like the features of the face/hands are like sections of color rather than a real "character".

Let me know if you need more clarification.

Thanks again!

...how about this one? :D

That looks good Alex. Has everyone else dropped out of this? No one else is going to offer ideas?

Alex, is it possible to make him look a bit more mischevious? I guess a cross between the menacing one and this newest one - smiling but with eyebrows furrowed a little bit...? Let me know if you need any clarification

Heya, I'm definitely still in though not sure as to what the client meant. Does he want the character to be less abstract? More fleshed out? More 3dimensional?

...sneaky little Gandalf

Hey Christian, yes I do think the client wants it more fleshed out than abstract. Sorry I didn't make that clear, he didn't either but now that we've seen some of these, let's give that a try.

Alex, that looks a lot more like the expression we're trying for.

Thanks guys!

Hi Zepo,

Can I get a new deadline date for this since we are well over the original target?

Thanks so much :)

Heya, here's the next one! If you can get the client's thoughts on it before deadline I might be able to make a third design. :)

Ok, once again, my sincere apologies for the delay, our client is a pain to get a hold of. He would like to award Christian for the latest submission. Alex, he really liked your wizard but after Christian snuck that last one in, his looks more sneaky and yours looks more magical. He did want to see both types of images - I really appreciate everyone's ideas and patience.

Thank you!

:D Great! Does the client need any revisions? Or will he just be needing the color and black and white version of the design?
