Hello All

We're after a logo for our new online business. We have pasted the standard questions and answers below.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Look forward to seeing the designs :)

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

Carsini or CARSINI or carsini. We have no preference as yet, but this may change once we see some of your designs.

What type of product or service do you offer?

A wide range of consumer products – anything consumer based, eg ADSL, digital cameras, computers, toys, loans, credit cards, etc. In short anything that you would expect to find offered by household brandnames.

How long have you been in business?

This is a new venture - about two weeks!

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

The logo is the starting point for our new venture's whole appearance. It will be an online business and the website look and feel will take a lead from our logo.

What are your long term goals?

To be a leading website for consumer purchases online and to build a brand that is recognisable and trustable.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

Monday 6 February 2006, althouth we will consider extending if necessary.

Audience Profile:

Please describe your existing audience

New venture so n/a.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

A wide range of consumers who buy goods online and who look for better value online. Our target audience are male and female (so the logo should not strongly appeal to one sex) and come from a broad demographic. The demographic is not even country-specific at this point, although we'll be initially launching in just one market (the UK). We want to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. Our audience will typically fall into one or more of the following cateogries however:

* They are interested in buying something within a given product range, but need advice on what to buy, and from where
* They may be new to buying online and need trustworthy advice and directing to suppliers they already trust, or can trust on our reccomendation
* They are experienced online buyers looking for the best price on a specific product they wish to buy

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

What type of logo would you like?

It should incorporate our name as detailed above, perhaps with some sort of graphic element. We want to be friendly/warm but don’t want anything cartoon-like: the logo needs to convey a sense of professionalism and trust. We are open to suggestions on the graphic but it may be that the text alone with the right treatment can hit the spot.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

No specific colours in mind, but we want them to be bright and friendly. The logo’s colour(s) will dictate the website colour palette. It would appear from what others in this market have done, that primary colours (or hues thereof) would best suit our needs but we're open to suggestions.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

None specifically in mind, but we will give feedback on suggestions from designers.

Communication Strategy:

What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

Professional, quality, value.

What is your tagline or slogan?

None.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

That our site is trustworthy, offering value and one that they should come back to. We want to be memorable without being over-bearing.

Where will your new logo be used?

Primarily on a website, but also on letterheads and potentially some offline print advertising.

Competitive Positioning:

Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

There are too many to list! We don't want to list any specifics here as it may indirectly influence your designs. Think about the websites you or your family might use regularly to buy products and you would be thinking in terms of the market we're competing in. Remember though: we don't want to disappear into the noise.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

It's a crowded marketplace - we are new, bright, friendly and professional. We plan to have functional elements of the site that would make us quite unique within the market, but we are not able to discuss those here right now for reasons of commercial confidence. Think "B2C meets Web 2.0" but in such a way that your parents would get what we are.

Targeted Message:

State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

We don't have a specific strapline that we want incorporating into our logo. But a description to answer the question is: Offering the best products from the best retailers at the best prices.

OK here is our feedback for each designer. Please feel free to ask us questions, it is sometimes quite difficult to put our thoughts into words.

If any new designers want to join the party now there is additional information/guidance then please feel free to do so.

Thank you for all efforts so far, we look forward to seeing more designs/developments...

Like: Colourful

Don't like: It looks a bit cartoon-like, we don't like the chrome effect. We like the fact that the font is big and bulky but the shape of the letters is a bit cartoony so perhaps change the font.

Needs to be a bit more professional and "sharp".

vertlime

Like: Strong visual element, we like the way the C is in an eye, but we don't like this particular eye.

Don't like: Colours are a bit muddy, we prefer primary colours (or hues thereof).

Could we move the Carsini text to the right of the graphic and try a different font as we don't feel that the current font makes the text stand out. Could we develop the eye a bit to something more friendly (but not cartoonish).

pracus

Don't like: We don't like the font, we don't like the colour, we don't like the shadow and we don't like the way the C is so large that it's almost an O.

I'm sorry, we just don't really like this design and I think that, it's "back to the drawing board" rather than suggesting developments to the existing design.

nhr

Version 1 - This one is professional, which we like. But it's not colourful or friendly. We like the fact that the C is different to the rest of the letters, but we don't like the current dual colour curve.

Version 2 - Same applies as with Version 1, although this one is a bit more consumer friendly.

Please could you try developing these further to make them a bit more colourful and friendly. Perhaps some other graphical element could help here?

cazeyzman

Version 1 - We don't like the blue oval background and would prefer a white background. Also we don't like the text shadow in the first design.

Version 2 - We don't like the reflective text colouring in the first design.

Both: The fonts are a bit cartoony, can we be a bit more "sharp" looking. Because most of our letters are rounded, this is affecting how we see the fonts.

We're unsure about the trolley, but want to develop it a bit more before we decide on it. At the moment it has the feel of a "cheap supermarket".

OK here is our feedback to the new designs and the revisions made by everybody.

We are still hoping to hear back from CZ with some revisions.

We will look again on Sunday at where we are and narrow it down to two designers before making a final decision on Monday.

Thank you again to everybody for your designs and your patience :)

djaka
We don't like v1, but we do like v2. Could you try it in some different colours for us. Maybe some form of graphic/effect to the left. At the moment it's a bit too simple.

Medigraph
This is a bit too simple for us. It's nice, but very simple. If you're prepared to develop it, we'd like to see something more unique and with different colours than the orange.

vertlime
I'm afraid we don't like this one... It's too "coffee shop" for us. If you could develop the eye a little more that would be good.

NHR
We like these a lot... Can we try v1.1 with other colours - again, more bright and friendly.

Can we develop the arrow in v3 - so it's closer to the text. And with different colours as the current one is too dark.

thinkkre8tiv
You have done exactly what we asked, but we don't like it! That is our fault, sorry. We do love your other designs, but these ones don't appear to be in the same genre. On your website we like (amongst others, but we'll keep the list short):

<img src = "http://www.thinkkre8tiv.com/images/logos/magna.png"> <img src = "http://www.thinkkre8tiv.com/images/logos/xi.png"> <img src = "http://www.thinkkre8tiv.com/images/logos/liqbit.png">

We would love it if you could start again but use the above as inspiration (although don't use the font in the 3rd one as it's unreadable!).

gig
It's a good start, but we don't like the stars or the fact it's dark. If you could do something more colourful with something else instead of the stars that would be good to see.

The eye is much better in that vertlime, but the font has gone too blocky now - looking through your gallery, we spotted a logo for EnerClear in green and blue that had a font that looked a little better. You might want to try that, or perhaps something completely different - up to you.

Also, we've noticed a lot of people have concentrated on dark blues, oranges, etc. which just don't seem to to hit the spot for us. Perhaps you could try something brighter (or in the case of those trying orange, something completely different)?

Hello again

Thank you to everyone for their time, patience and designs. We would now like to ask two of the designers to make some small revisions before making our final decision in approximately 24 hours time.

Our two finalists are NHR (v1.2) and Medigraph (v2.0/2.1).

The revisions we require are:

NHR - please don't change the design, but could you resubmit with some different colours? It may be worth trying different colours for each letter, but we're not sure.

Medigraph - please could you revise the design a little bit. Please make the arc of circles end just above the C, so that the C is almost the final dot. Also make the arc a bit less tall. And, as with the one above, please could you try some different colours - maybe each circle in the arc a different colour?

Thank you again to all those who submitted designs.

Hello again

It's been a very very very difficult decision. We like both concepts and have really struggled to come to a final decision.

However, we do need to make a decision and... we have decided we like Medigraph's design. So Medigraph is the winner.

Thank you to all who took part, especially NHR - it was very close.

Medigraph we do have some revisions we'd like to try out before finalising the design. I'm not sure if we're meant to post these here or send them to you privately - maybe you or one of the Admins could confirm.

Thanks again

Hi Medigraph

Please could you try the following three revisions before we decide on our final variant of your design. The first two are colour revisions and the third is a development we want to try out:

1. Repeat Version 2.3 but using the colours in djaka's version 2 design (Message #15 in this thread).

2. Repeat Version 2.4 but using a completely different set of colours. We're not too keen on the red/orange or the blue/green that's been tried already.

3. Can you try doing one of the two above with the circles as 3d spheres and the letters as 3d so they come out from the page rather than being so "flat".

Please ask if you have any questions.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for those. We are nearly there :)

1. Please could you do v2.5 No 1, but with all the dots in PMS390 (but leave the dot on the second i in PMS234).

2. Could you then apply the same effect as you have done in v2.7 No 2 (Right) to this one but retain the PMS234 and 390 colour. Also remove the drop reflection.

Thank you
