Hi all,
I'd like to have a new graphic logo and text logo made for my site, sharewareauthor.com. At this point, I have no idea what the new site will look like, but I generally tend to go with blue themes.

For the logo, I'd like to have a picture, from behind the monitor, of a guy coding in his underwear. I'd like the logo to be almost cartoony... sort of in the style of the flash cartoons that are all over the place these days. I'd like the graphic element to be done as VECTOR art, and I can accept files in either Illustrator CS, Fireworks 8 or Flash 8 formats.

The text logo can be done as raster (as long as it's large enough that it can be used for print work and still look good) but vector is preferred.

Here's a rough sketch of what I'd like:
http://www.liquidmirror.com/sharewareguy.jpg

Please DO NOT use that as a direct template... First off, I stink as a sketch artist, but second of all, it's a little to realistic looking. I'd like the final logo to be cartoony - a bit funny looking.

I would like to see:

Some kind of funky print on the boxers. Maybe Hawaiian palm trees... I don't know. Not too busy. Just enough to make it look like they are in fact boxers.
A little bit of a hairy pot belly hanging over the waistband.
Some indication of hairy legs (not nearly as graphic as my drawing - yuck!).
If it can be fit in, maybe some patched up socks with a big toe sticking out of a hole in one.
It might be cool if you could fit in a few soda cans on one side of the monitor and maybe a bag of chips on the other.

I would NOT like to see:

Any of the upper body. This is an anonymous coder. :D The desk and monitor should obscure anything above the belly button.
Too much detail. Remember to keep it kind of cartoony.

The idea here is to have the logo be kind of funny or light hearted. But I do want it to look professionally done (in other words, not sloppily done, like an amateur - I could do that myself ;) ).

Let's shoot for an initial output size of 150 x 150. I figure if I want to go smaller, I can creatively crop, resize and remove some of the busier details like soda cans, etc, myself.

As far as the text part of the logo, it should consume maybe 10% of the project time. I just want something fairly cool looking, but nothing overly complicated.

At this point, I'm really open to any creative ideas you guys have. I certainly don't have a final picture in my mind, so if you've got some good, funny ideas, either run them by me here in the forum, or just let 'em fly.

Let me know if you need any further information. I'll set a deadline of two weeks - February 13th.

-Mike

OK, one from me :)

Hi Medigraph,
I like this as a first attempt. Great job. A few things I'd like to see...

I'm not so sure I like the hair on the legs and gut. I mean, it looks good, but I don't think it's what I'm looking for. The best analogy I can give is from the old Tom & Jerry cartoons. If you've ever watched them, every once in a while, Tom's hair would be pulled up or off his leg, and what was underneath was this slightly stubbly leg with a few curley-que hairs, here and there. A bit more cartoony than the hair you have there.

I'd also like to see a little definition in the back of the monitor. If I didn't know what it was, I wouldn't know what it is. ;-)

I'm wondering if a little bit of a gradient glow around the monitor might be kind of cool...? What do you think?

The bag of chips is pretty cool... can we experiment with making the bottles look like cans?

I'm looking forward to your revision, and hopefully some competition, too. :-)

Thanks for your submission, Titania - I really like it! :-)

A few things I'd like to see, and then I guess I have to make a choice, since no one else has entered a submission.

I'd like to see him in either socks or slippers. The shoes look great, but they seem a little out of place.

Let's minimize the hair on the legs a little. Everyone I show it to says "Yuck" when they see that much hair. Just a few strays here and there.

I need to see a color version of the logo at the smaller size... it will rarely ever be seen at the full size you created. If you could show me a color version the same size as the black/white version, that would be great.

I also need to see some nice text. Doesn't have to be too fancy or spectacular - just something nice looking.

Thanks for both of your efforts. You both did an amazing job (much better than I seem to be able to do, myself).

I think Titania's image captures more of the funny, cartoony feel that I'm looking for.

I'm going to pick Titania's original post (Message #6) as the winner with one revision... Even though you got the site name wrong (it's sharewareauthor.com) and in a font I'm not too fond of, I'd like to have you focus on one other thing, instead...

Let's hide the original shoes layer in Illustrator (in case I decide I like them better, later), and I want to see your best effort at "fuzzy bunny slippers." I think this might be a funny addition. If you're not sure of what I mean, just go to images.google.com (http://images.google.com/images?q=fuzzy+bunny+slippers&hl=en) and search for fuzzy bunny slippers.

I'd like that in lieu of the text logo, which I'll take care of myself.

Congratulations to both of you - they are equally excellent pieces of artwork.
