(Admin code added by Palmer - 4MN85323NT372814S)

Hi all,

We are launching a web service called 'oddjob.com.au' which allows users to post listings of home maintenance/building/repair jobs. Tradespersons can then use the site to place quotes against jobs and the user can then choose a quote and enter into a business transaction with the selected tradesperson.

Please see some mockups of our site (with placeholder logo) at:

http://www.oddjob.com.au:9000/main.htm
http://www.oddjob.com.au:9000/listings.htm

Note 1: These pages are mockups, links on these pages will not work.
Note 2: These are under heavy development - we're just showing them to give you an idea of logo placement.

Thanks,

Joe

Please see our answers to the design assessment questions (answers in red):

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

The words 'Oddjob.com.au'.

What type of product or service do you offer?

OddJob.com.au is a portal for people to post jobs for builders, tradesmen, maintenance workers, handymen, etc.
In turn, people in these industries/trades are able to issue quotes through the system and communicate with customers, etc.

How long have you been in business?

This is a new business, due to launch late Feb 2006.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

What are your long term goals?

Initially this business is targeted at the Australian market. In the future other markets may be addressed.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

The deadline is 17th of February, 2006. If this is unrealistic, we will extend.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

None - this is a new business.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

We are largely targeting the home maintenance/home repair/home renovation market in Australia. This is likely to include a
a wide range of people of all ages and backgrounds.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

We are open to different suggestions, however we would like the logo to be straightforward and free of complex
graphics. Something along the lines of Ebay/Google/Yahoo. Given our audience, it would be nice if the logo could have
a hint of 'playfulness' - ie: it shouldn't reflect a very formal corporate identity!

Our web site is still under development, but I am including some static links so designers can get some idea of
where the logo will sit. On the main page, a larger version of the logo will be visible somewhere toward the center
of the page. On all other pages, a smaller version of the logo will be visible in the upper left hand corner of the page.

Finally, the text of the logo needs to be clear - we don't want the artistic design of the logo to make the text
difficult to read in any way.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

We don't have colors in mind. Please do NOT let the colors on our web site sway your color decision too much as
we are not particularly artistically inclined and it is very likely those colors will change at some point.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

None.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

Our aim for the logo (and the site in general) is to appear relatively uncluttered and informal so that people
feel comfortable with our site.

What is your tagline or slogan?

Undecided.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

We just want people who see the logo to recognise it as ours.

Where will your new logo be used?

Primarily on our website: www.oddjob.com.au (not yet available). It will also appear in some print media so it needs to appear ok
in black and white.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the quick response. I like the logo and color combination. Might need a bit more seperation between characters? Will wait to see more submissions before giving further feedback.

Thanks,

Joe

Thanks for all your contributions so far - I really appreciate the time everyone has taken! Here's some feedback:

Kekepania: This is quite similar to the submission by Michael Bleigh. We're not real keen on the color combination or the black outline.

Caroline: This is a bit too irregular for us. I guess we're looking for something a bit 'neater' as seems to be the trend for newer web applications at the moment.

Bill: We don't mind the concept of the wavy text line but not too sure about the font. We intitially played around with something like this using a Snap ITC font. Also, not keen on the star.

As a general comment, I notice everyone so far has colored the word's 'odd' and 'job' different colors. Maybe we could see some variation there?

Hi all - some more feedback.

Caroline: Thanks, I like the colors in this design. Not sure how it would fit into our site since the logo is a lot higher than the text. We'll try it out and let you know.

Medigraph: Not too sure about the builders hat icon. Our audience is quite broad and this might imply something more in the construction industry. Don't mind the colors tho.

Kekepania: I like this a lot better. The colors are great and I like the design.

We'll try out a few of these logo's on our mockups now. In the meanwhile, we're still very open for submissions - until Friday.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi all,

Thank you to those of you who submitted entries for our logo. We have decided to go with designer Michael Bleigh.

Michael, we do have a couple of minor revisions - will post about this in the revisions forum tomorrow.

Thanks,

Joseph

Hi! Thanks for choosing my design. I'd be happy to make any revisions you need, just let me know what they are.

Hi Michael,

Could we see the logo with a small spacing between the letters - possibly a very small amount (maybe 1 pixel ?).

Other than that, we've very happy with it. If you can provide this in Photoshop format, I _think_ I may be able to scale it using Paintshop Pro. If that fails, we will need you to send us a couple of versions for the web site.

Thanks,

Joseph

Here it is with some spacing. If you like this design, could you let me know whether you would want the shadow box around the logo or not in the final version? Other than that just let me know any other changes and I'll package it up for you ASAP! Thanks again for choosing my design.

That looks fine. I prefer not to have the shadow box around the logo.

thanks,

Joseph

Files sent via PM. Thanks again for choosing me!

Michael:-

As stated in my PM, I really need these files in a vector format - the PSD seems to only contain one raster layer and I can't do a smooth resize.

Also, the PSD files you have supplied are using a completely different blue color than those in the JPEG's and eps files.

We really need this wrapped up quickly.

Thank you,

Joseph
