Hi from London England

I need a new logo for my company which designs consumer profiling software for Broadband TV ( increasingly known as IPTV or TELCO TV). The successful design will capture three key elements.
1) We have something to do with TV
2) We have something to do with advertising
3) We are technically leading edge.

All that needs to be set in a futuristic context because our marketplace is still very embryonic and wont really become mainstream for another 2/3 years
You can also check out our existing website for more detail on what we actually do www.thezapcorporation.com.

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
The Zap Corporation Ltd Advertising Solutions for 21st Century TV

What type of product or service do you offer?
Specialist software for profiling households on Broadband TV platforms

How long have you been in business?4 Years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Create a more professional look with a more high tech logo

What are your long term goals?
To become a successful Company and give something back

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?Feb 28 2006

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Large corporates who are already in or are about to enter the embryonic world of Broadband TV ( now increasingly called IPTV ). SBC are the best example in the US

Who would you like to add to your audience?
ISP`s (Internet service providers ) and digital cable operators like Comcast

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

What type of logo would you like?
Something striking that captures the essence of the business plus its futuristic and high tech nature

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
The existing Company colours are a mix of green and yellow and black. I think they provide a certain differentiation but I am open to suggestions for change. I would like to see some suggestions using Gold ( instead of the yellow) with the green and black although clearly that’s not too far removed from where we are already. Beyond that I`ll try to keep an open mind on colour.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Yes. We are about -

1 Broadband television - hence the TV set on the existing Logo

2 New ways of Advertising using personal profiling – hence the existing strap line
3 Avoiding Zapping – hence the Company name.
What Zap aspires to do is create a change in the zeitgeist of advertising. At the moment everyone hates ads. Why? Because of the dreaded three I`s - irrelevance, intrusion and their interruptive nature. Zap technology will contribute a step change in those areas by providing a targeting capability which ensures that ads are delivered only to suitably qualified prospects for the products in question. That’s the thinking behind what we have at present – a television set with a Zap flash which represents something different happening on the screen

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
That we are very disruptive high tech, leading edge and innovative but essentially driven and concerned by the essential basic human components of getting advertising right for personalised consumption at an individual level.

What is your tagline or slogan?
Advertising solutions for 21st century TV

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That we are about a dramatically new way of presenting ads on next generation TV

Where will your new logo be used?
Website, letterheads , biz cards

Competitive Positioning: Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
I hate to ever say this but at the moment we have no direct competitors that I am aware of

List competitive URLs if possible?
The closest would be www.visibleworld.com and www.navic.tv who are working the same space albeit in different ways

What sets you apart from your competitors?
We create profiles based on the specific characteristics of individual households

Have some fun with it and feel free to mail me with any questions.

Hi

Keen to help out with this project though I have to ask ...
do you REALLY want all "The Zap Corporation Ltd Advertising Solutions for 21st Century TV" in the MAIN part of the logo?

Cheers,

Hi Paul

As you can probably tell , I haven`t done this before so apologies for the shaky instructions. You`re quite right of course the actual Logo only needs to include the strapline " Advertising Solutions for 21st Century TV " although I would like the font , style , colouring etc of the lettering which is used for the Company name to be overall consistent with the new logo . That was the reason why I included it.

Cheers

Thanks Caroline , could you try these changes please.

1 Substitute satdish with a TV set
2 Create 5/6 faces gathered round watching the set - must be a different mix of age/ sex / colour. Faces could just be outlines as long as its enough to suggest a bunch of DIVERSE people watching the set.
3 Create something on the opposite side of the TV set to suggest a series of different inputs coming into the set to align with the different types of viewers - maybe colour coded to align with the faces would work. You could use wavy lines or something but try to keep the whole thing looking as High Tech as poss.
4 Change all text fonts to a mix of black / gold / green - whatever mix of those three you think looks best.

Do you think that`s manageable without all looking horribly busy ??

Will review again over the weekend

Many thanks and regards from London

John

An eye as a symbol of reflection of the real world into the digital world, also used as a sign of watching (TV), and advertisement.

Hello Yusuf

Many thanks for this.
I wasn`t sure at first but I keep looking at it and its starting to grow on me. The colours are wrong though - needs to be a mix of black green and gold - whatever you think looks best. As a suggestion could you try this edit as well. You may know that digital technology is made up of binary code - ie ones and zeros. How about introducing some ones and zeros around the eye - either as well as the existing squares or instead of them. Alternatively can you make the squares - some or all - look a bit more like TV sets to emphasise the " Watching TV " component of Zap.

Many Thanks and Best Regards from London

John

Thanks , I like this one best so far. The inclusion of the TV screen twice gives it an extra edge and I also enjoyed your interpretation of having a group of very different individuals watching. I found this very creative and something with elements that impact - ie its very memorable once you`ve seen it . And recognition in a Logo is everything.

However I still seem to be having difficulty in getting anybody to respond to my colour suggestions of a green / gold / black mix. Why is that I wonder - do they just not work for anybody else ? Could you try a green instead of the blue on your design and let me have a look at a revision please.

Many Thanks

John

Hi Ruairi

Many thanks for your submission . Nice idea although I found the fonts a bit unbalanced. Zap needs to be dominant and legible on the screen but not quite that big. Meanwhile the main strapline is a bit too small. Also the type of font is a bit bland .I don`t want anything flashy but strong and stylish is good.

Hello Michael Bleigh and many thanks for your submission

This has a very clean simplicity and good lines but lacks a bit of hi tech and a bit of people involvement . Plus at the moment I don`t think anybody has thought about trying to capture a way of reflecting the individual delivery of TV adverts on a targeted basis - which is actually what Zap is all about. A pretty tough challenge I know but the successful entrant will probably get pretty close to capturing most core elements of that.

Hi,
Here are your suggestions. I made the underline into an actual smile so it's not the same as the other submissions.
Please post any comments or revisions within the contest thread.
The designers can get into trouble for communicating privately with the clients.
Since I am a moderator it is my job to address situations like this.
Thanks, I appreciate it :)

Paula

Firstly drop "the " from the strapline - it should just read " advertising solutions for 21st century tv ". See all other examples.

1) Redo version 1 retaining your original gold colour but substituting the blue/green colour PMS Process Blue C

2) Redo version 1 again with the same change as per 1) above but this time changing the gold as well to PMS 110C

3) Line up the two words " The " and " Ltd " so that they are centred against " zap corporation " similar to the way it`s layed out in submission 10 in the thread.

4) Make the word zap as solid as possible. Again refer submission 10 for a possible font change to achieve that objective.

5) Finally can you just try this and see how it looks.Underline the word zap in the smaller TV screen with a simple smile line - again refer 10 for one possible option. It may make the whole thing ridiculously busy but I`d like to see what you could come up with. What I`d be trying to convey with that is a kind of happy effect because the audience are less fed up with adverts than they used to be. The smile should either be in white or the gold colour and could maybe follow the curve which forms the base of the tv screen. I`ll leave it up to you to decide what looks best.

ok thanks and apologies , I wasn`t aware of that.

I like version three best. The smile is pretty good but it does look slightly like a hammock at first glance. Any minor adjustments you can do to change that very much appreciated.

Designer Chosen

I have decided to go with Paula 23 who should be congratulated for a great looking creative and getting extremely close to my original spec. I have a couple of minor final revisions which I will post seperately.

I would like to thank everybody else who made a contribution , especially those who did revisions. To Yusuf at Medigraph an especial thanks for a cracking design but in the end that eye was just a bit too much Big Brother , something which can be an issue in my business.

Best Wishes to everybody and to those who didn`t make it don`t be too disheartened. You have to lose some to win some and the next success will be just around the corner so the trick is ..................
make sure you always get to the corner !

Well done on this design and many thanks for all your efforts. Can you redo version 4 using the thinner smile please. Also that smile is nearly right but anything you can do to accentuate it slightly would be good - just so thats its a bit more obvious that its a smile . If it starts to look too kitsch then abandon it.
I think you`ve used two different Golds , can you give me the revision in both please as I`m still struggling to choose the best one of those.

Best

on any of these.

You know what , that alternate smile in revision 3 MIGHT work but could you reduce the 2 smile lines ( ie the two lips ) to the thinnest lines possible that still produce the effect. Also the bottom and top lips should join up in both corners. Please do that whilst making the actual word Zap as large as possible so that it recaptures the original dominance as per your very first version 1.
Thanks
