View Full Version : Puget Sound Software - Logo

(Admin code added by Palmer - 507630C)

OK, I need a logo for my software and related consulting firm: Puget
Sound Software.

I actually had this company 20 years ago, and am resurecting it. This
time it needs a real logo, rather than the clipart+font I used back
then. (http://pugetsoundsoftware.com has an old business card up for
the time being).

The business is software & software consulting, as well as just about
anything industry related. For example I'll be publishing an ebook
(first of two) about high-tech interviewing within a couple of weeks.

SO as most folks that come here probably say, I don't really know
what I want, but I'll probably know it when I see it.

Some charateristics that I can offer:

- Definitely looking for a color logo, BUT it must translate well into
monochrome. Will be also used frequently on b&w printouts.

- Smooth & Professional

- Order & symmetry over flashiness.

- I tend toward the blues & greens.

- Might be nice to work the local aspect of the name (Puget Sound is
that large body of water to the left of Seattle :-). I don't know
for sure, though.

- Vector format please. I have Corel Draw, but we can figure out ways
to translate.

Deadline: 7/18/03

Thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing the entries...

new idea coming soon...

Like the water idea ... have to think about that some.

Of course more requirements become apparent: I do need the logo to be horizontally oriented. Take a look at the design outpost logo ... that approximate h/w ratio feels about right.

Think I'm looking for a more formal font, too.

Great to results so quickly. :)

Hello. Here are a couple of entries. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

The first one looks a bit too familiar (http://www.content.overture.com/d/home/) :D

Y'all been busy. Very cool.

Of what I've seen so far, ondarox, your's calls to me the most. IF we go with a whale, though, it's gotta have the markings of an Orca, and that one does not. I'm just a tad concerned associating a whale (big & slow) with my software :o .

The various circle designs don't do it for me. jmberra22 might be heading in an interesting direction hinting at mountains in the background, but the current example is a little too abstract.

And to clarify for all, Puget Sound Software does not specialize in audio (sound) software. Rather, we're located near Seattle, which is on a body of water called "Puget Sound". So geiger, very nice logos, but definitely not what I'm after :-).

Thanks all...

Leo

Hi Leo,

Here are two entries - the first is meant to represent the sun's reflection on the water, and the second native-drawn looking frog ties in with the water idea (and incorporates the history of the area).

Orca!

What is your respected opinion of this depiction?

Sparkie: I'm afraid neither really calls to me. The sun reflecting off waters sounds like an intersting concept, but this realization is too abstract for me. And frogs don't quite relate to the area as well.
FTIgraphix: I like everything but the ball :-). Not really sure what that's supposed to mean or do?
Ondarox: so far this is my favorite ... what does it look like if we put the Orca to the left or right of the text, sized appropriately?

I'm really encouraged and impressed with the talent out here. Since this is my first time here, I was a little nervous, but it's clear we'll come up with something really cool.

For those so motivated, it'd be great to see a couple of new ideas as well.

Thanks,

Leo

Nice one Kootch  Looks like the same font as Raja's Angry Toddler (http://www.designoutpost.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=212) logo. Very nice.

You never registered.

ElKootcho: I agree with Palmer, nice. I'll make the same request of you that I made of Ondarox - what if we took the orca-dorsal ball and placed it either to the right or left of the text, size appropriate? I do like the font choice, but also wonder if there are other, slightly less stylized, fonts that this approach would work well with?

FTIGraphics: Those mountains just don't do it for me. The text style is cool. If we went with a mountainous backdrop, they'd need to be a little more realistic.

Thanks all,

Leo

LeoNot

Good evening, all.

Hypnosis: I'm afraid neither of those really speak to me. The second one in particular almost seems to be going the audio route, and I mentioned, that's not what I'm about.

ElKootcho: Some promising stuff here... Let's see what the font from _04 and the color of _07 looks like.

FTIGraphics: I think I mentioned before that more realistic mountains might be interesting. My wife actually mentioned snagging a profile of Mt. Rainier?

Raja/ondarox: My wife also asked me "what's that green ball?" A thought occurred to me that having the Orca jumping in front of a profile of Mt. Rainier could be cool. I would stick with the green color you've choosen and the all caps font style. Depending on the Rainier you come up with, it might be nice to see one option without the Orca at all.

Thanks all!

Leo

Wow. You guys make this hard, ya know? Too many good ones to choose from.

I'm going to go with ElKootcho, (specifically _08), as the winner.

Many thanks for all your ideas and work.

I was watching this competition. Nice choice! Looks clean and professional, and as I am from the N.W. as well, I think it accurately represents the area.

Good luck!
