Hi Everybody!
We are a construction company named FieldSource Construction. Our primary field is commercial interiors (ie. offices, retail, food services, medical offices). Our service area is Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Our services range from simple demolition of a vacant office space to a full build-out for a new tenant.
Our primary clients/contacts are property managers/property owners who need a space cleaned-up from a tenant that moved out or built-out for a prospective tenant.
At this time, we are asking for a simple, but catchy 5.5 x 8.5 postcard to send to our primary clients.
FRONT - We essentially are looking for a simple front - #1 Our company Name - #2 Three photos of jobs completed (as attached) - #3 For it to say "Specializing in commercial interiors" (at the bottom?)
BACK - On the back we have included (as attached) some simple text. Again we would like our Name, "Specializing in commercial interiors", and our phone number.
COLOR - Our company colors are brown and gold (Similar to UPS)
PRINTING - We will be using Overnightprints for our printing with the guidelines as attached: http://www.overnightprints.com/main.php?A=specs
SIMILAR COMPANIES - FYI - Two companies that offer the same services as we do are:
www.belcaster.com (which is also one of our clients)
www.icgconstruction.com
The above info is our take on what we are looking for but we would like to leave it to the professionals. We greatly welcome your ideas and suggestions. Should there be a need - we don't see a problem of using istockphoto for additional graphics.
Should you need any more information, please let us know.
Take care and Good Luck!

Hey Guys!
All these ideas are great! At this time we don't have any changes. It seems that our only problem will be which final decision to make.

Hi! Presenting to you my 1st design study. My inspiration for this were minimalist squares and solid bars which I hope would convey the strength, stability and cleanliness (I don't know if this is the right word, maybe meticulousness?) of your construction work.
I'll be posting the back design soon. Are you going for a colored design on the back?
For your comments. Thank you.

Another variation of the design I made earlier...
I think this is a good size for your pics. Resizing them to a smaller size will help minimize the noise on the photo.

Hi Everyone!
Well, we would like to thank everyone for there input and designs. The one thing that we weren't expecting was the difficult decision we would have to make by chosing only one design (Hence, the delay in the deadline).
However, we have decided to go with plum74 as the winning designer for this project. (Lala - we will have a few minor revisions - but will get back to you later).
Again, thanks to everyone for there help!!!

Hi RobJ,
Thanks for choosing me. Will be waiting for your suggested revisions.
Lala
Hey Lala,
First off, thanks for all your help.
With regards to our project - we are definitely going with Study 2 with the following concerns/revisions:
1. On the front, "specializing in..." can we make that a bit bigger - so that it stands out or would that be an overkill with the message?
2. The image with the two ladies in the background - Should I go and retake the picture without the ladies?
3. What would be your take on putting captions to the photos (ie, project name and city address)? For example, the big vacant space would be captioned "Full Floor Demo - Rosement, IL" or is this something that would just add clutter?
I appreciate your input and look forward to your suggesstions.
Thanks,
Rob

You are welcome. Let me try to answer your concerns as concretely as I can:
1. "On the front, "specializing in..." can we make that a bit bigger - so that it stands out or would that be an overkill with the message?"
We probably have a little room for enlarging this text. However, what you see onscreen is probably smaller than the actual size. Once i send you a pdf version of the actual size, you'll get a more accurate judgement of the size of the text.
2. The image with the two ladies in the background - Should I go and retake the picture without the ladies?
I do agree that having 2 people in that picture is quite distracting but I think the angle of the picture is great. If you can retake the picture from the same angle, I think that would be great.
3. What would be your take on putting captions to the photos (ie, project name and city address)?
I would have to say that the captions would indeed add clutter to the front of the card but I also think that your captions would also help distinguish your photos as your actual projects from just being stock photos. I guess the way to resolve this is to have small versions of the pictures also at the back of the card layed-out side by side with the captions underneath.
I hope I was able to answer your questions. :)
Lala
Lala,
Sorry for the delay. Here is the revised photo without the two ladies.
With regards to the captions, I like your idea about having the captions on the back. Can I see how that works.
The big vacant space would be: Full Floor Demo - Rosemont
The new picture would be: Dinner by Design - Arlington Heights
The short corridor would be: Public Corridor - Rosemont
Thanks,
Rob
Here is the logo as an eps.
Hopefully it works!

Hi RobJ,
Thanks for the files, I was able to use them. Here is a prepress file of the postcard in high resolution and in its actual size. This should give you a more accurate idea of how big the text and pics are. Aside from the white border which is part of the design, a .125 bleed will be included later in the final file that you will submit to overnight prints. Let me know if this meets your satisfaction. Thanks.

Lala,
This is great.
The only thing I would ask for is that the "bullets" on the back be smaller, solid squares. Other than that, I think we're done.

Hi Rob,
Here are the files with the last revision you requested. I was wondering if you would consider having a spot UV option (where there are specific areas that are glossy while the rest of the card is matte). I recently received samples from overnightprints.com and saw one card with the spot UV feature which I think would be nice for highlighting areas on the Front of your card. There is a third file named Fsource_spotUVguide.pdf for this purpose.
Overnight prints I think has a free uv coating option but I don't know if this includes Spot UV. I've been looking allover their website but didn't find the specific cost for this option. You might want to email them or call them about this option if you're interested.
Meanwhile, if you are perfectly happy with these files, then these files will serve as your final files for submission to overnightprints.com.
Lala
Hey Lala,
This is perfect!
Thanks for all your help.
