Hi! I am looking forward to working with all of you on this project.

We are a young (1 year) company that specializes in purchasing raw ground, getting the entitlements through the planning commission process, and then either selling the "paper lots" or developing the sub-division and selling improved lots to developers. We may in the future go vertical on some of our projects, meaning that we will do actual construction of houses, townhomes, condominiums etc. We will probably do very little, if any, commercial development. We have built a reputation of integrity and would like the logo to reflect that. We are also known as developers who can come into a project and execute in a timely manner.

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
The company name is Dalaco LLC (all caps??) The name stands for Development And Land Acquisition COmpany. We would like a tagline of "Land Acquisition & Development" because the name itself is not explanatory of the business we are in. I don't know if we legally need to show the LLC in the logo or not. I'd prefer not to have it if possible.

What type of product or service do you offer?
Land Acquisition and Development

How long have you been in business?
One year.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Establish a recognizable logo that will evoke a sense of honesty, integrity, quick action, and stability.

What are your long term goals?
Rapid sustainable growth with projects in Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada and Arizona. (Possibly more)

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Friday, March 3, 2006.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience.
We want to be recognizable to the following groups:
1) City Councils, Planning Commissions, Local Government Leadership
2) Homebuilders
3) Real Estate Agents
4) Investors

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Professional, not cutesy.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Pretty open. We would like a logo that will fax without too much degradation. (A lot of Logo's all end up as a black blob when being faxed)

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
No. You are the creative bunch!!

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

What is your tagline or slogan?
"Land Acquisition and Development" Suggestions?

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
We are here, we can be trusted, we will work quickly to develop our project (good for investors and landowners alike)

Where will your new logo be used?
Letterheads , biz cards.
Possible business sign, possible website.

Hey, I've not done this before, and I'm wondering if I left something out of my description. Is anyone working on this? If not, is there something else you need to get started. Please let me know!! Thanks...

Thank you for your submission. The Dept. of Commerce has informed me that we do NOT need to have the "LLC" in our logo. Unless the principals in the company feel differently, I would prefer that future submissions omit the LLC from the logo. I will be meeting with them later today and will confirm this once I have spoken with them.

My first impression of this submission was that DALACO looked a bit too delicate, both in color and font. By getting rid of the LLC you may be able to increase the size of the name.

I'm not sold on the house on the hill. It almost looks like an Italian villa in the Tuscan countryside. That said, I like the concept. It appears that you attempted to show strength and stability with the exaggerated foundation. I'm concerned that the big house on the little hill almost has the opposite effect. I feel like it is perched out there on a cliff.

Lets see some more ideas! Thanks again for your work!

I like the idea of a plat or something that describes the development process. My concern is that shrunk down to business card size, I'll lose definition and people will just say "What is that blob next to DALACO?".

IM in. And on this idea I honestly believe that you are correct in you last statement. It would be way to detailed for small purposes.

Just a quick FYI. The LLC will only need to be on all legal paperwork and financial materials. It is not needed in the logo.

Bart - I am liking the direction you've gone. Can you monkey around with the text colors/shading (look at Caroline's entry, I like what she did with that)? Can you also give me some more options for the shield?

Caroline - I really like how you've colored the text but the overall design feels plain and uninspiring.

I'm excited to be getting designs going. Come on designers! Show me what you have!!

These are looking great! I'm meeting with the partners this morning and will present what has come in so far. Will give detailed feedback after the meeting.

I really like the direction that you are going with these. I met with the partners this morning. One of them had someone in one of his other office put this together. I personally don't like it very much, but they like the 'swoosh' thing. I don't think it will fax well. Is there anything you can do with this to make it work better?? Even stylize it more?? I don't know. Also, we want Land Acquisition and Development, not Development and Land Acquisition. I'm going to continue working on them with these other designs, but let's see what you can do with this starting point.

More feedback:
Message #:
7 - Make roof line mountains, I like the shield
11 - Make house a stylized lighthouse or mountains
12 - Like it try different colors
13/14 - House is too prominent (we don't specialize in building homes per se)
15/16/17 - Too agricultural. As bad as it sounds, we take agricultural land and put streets and curb and gutter in and sell it.

Message #20:
I really like that. It is masculine and strong. Could you add a mountain profile to the top part of the shield? It just seems a bit plain.

#23 -Awesome. Can you make it blue and gray?

bbailey

What about making the lighter blue area on the top/side and bottom left portion of the shield a silver color, along with DALACO and then making "Land Acquistion and Development" the darker color of blue?

#26 - Can you keep everything the same on the left example, but change the letter color of DALACO to the color on the right example?

#27 - Can you show some sort of a fanning out beam emanating from the lighthouse towards and behind DALACO?

Here's 2 variations.

Also, the text is still readable at a smaller size.

#30 - Ok, I re-read my post and I was unclear. I apologize. What I'd like to see is the left example with the letters the same color as the mountains (The blue color). On another example, could you also show the horizontal lines that are above and below "DALACO" matching the mountain (without changing the color of the shield, leaving it silver/gray)? If you are unclear, please let me know so you don't have to keep doing revisions for me!! I feel bad!

#37 - Almost!! No just do the shading thing with the letters in DALACO like the previous entries. Additionally can you show me what it would look like with the graduated shading on the shield without the rays? This is really cool.

Thank you for all your designs. If you wish to continue submitting ideas, please do so. We are meeting on Monday morning to select the designer with whom we would like to move forward. I am very pleased with this process. The most difficult part will be getting a concensus from the group as to whom we should choose. All the ideas have merit.

After much thought and discussion, we have chosen to work with 'thinkkre8tiv'. I'm not sure where we go from here. We have some additional tweaks we would like to make to the design from message #31. Do you contact me directly or what? Thank you all for your creative designs. This was not an easy choice. In the end, we felt that this design most accurately captured what we were after.

Thanks for choosing my design. Lets communicate now via Private Messages. I would be glad to make any tweaks that you need to get this logo finished up.
