We are in need for a logo design that contains our name: Family Literacy Program. Anything that incorporates families together, parent-child togetherness, etc. "Family Literacy for the whole family!" can be used as a tag-line. We will use this on printed mediums.
We offer the following programs FREE to families:
•English as a Second Language (ESL)
You can learn English one-on-one with a certified teacher or you may choose to study English in a small group setting in
several locations throughout the city of Scranton.
•High School General Equivalency Diploma Classes (GED)
GED classes are also offered one-on-one or in a small group setting throughout the city of Scranton.
•Parents as Teachers in the home training (PAT)
Our PAT training includes instruction and advise on which activities, songs, nursery rhymes, toys, games, books, crafts,
etc. are essential to maximize educational gains for your infant, toddler, preschooler, or aged child. Our teachers are also trained to serve as a liaison for you and your children both in the schools and in the community at your request.
•Early Childhood Education (ECE)
Our Family Literacy Program’s ECE component helps you stay informed about programs that can improve educational
skills of your child at an early age. If your child is enrolled in or becomes enrolled in Public Pre-School (Title I), Private
Preschool, or Head Start, we will help you monitor your child’s progress. We assist families by helping them understand
age appropriate educational milestones and can offer some additional help and resources to you if your child is struggling
and needs a little more help in some areas of their academics.
•Parent and Child Together Time (PACT)
This part of the program is by far the most fun. This piece of the program pairs parents and their children to participate
in recreational and educational interactive activities. PACT activities take place in your home and in a group setting.
Some activities are as simple as playing a board game or reading a book and participating in a craft. Other PACT activities are a little more involved such as participating in special events at the library, field trips to local businesses,
zoos, parks, museums, cultural events, theatrical presentations, bowling and Chuck E. Cheese’s - just to
name a few.
Everything is provided to you at no cost. Our Family Literacy Program is different from other adult literacy programs because we incorporate the entire family. If you desire to learn English or if you want to earn your GED, this program is perfect for you. The rewards of the programs are endless.
