[Due Jan 22nd] - Illustrate creative facade for child's Playhouse - $200

(Admin code added by Palmer - 45U511654N024883S)

$200

This project is for designing a creative facade for a children's playhouse. Only an illustration of the facade is necessary, nothing else, though details in the drawing are important. The illustration will be used as a basis and reproduced into actual playhouses.

Playhouse front elevation is 10 ft wide and up to 10 ft tall. Illustration should keep within scale.

The award is currently for one illustration, however, if there are multiple works submitted that we really like, we will select them as well and each will receive the same award. We are interested in some victorian styles as well as some castles--romanesque palace for girls and a more gothic-style for boys.

Illustrator or vector EPS file please.

Hi, Curby

I got a few questions about the project:

1. Will it be printed on a flat surface or will it be a 3D model based on our designs?
2. Does it have any predetermined shape or do we have a 10x10 square to use our imagination on?
3. What size should the door be? Will the children be able to enter the house or is it for something else? If they can enter, we should probably calculate accurately the door and windows proportions.
4. It would be great if you could give us a few links to pictures of similar products

Thanks in advance!

Hello Curby,
Alex beat me to the punch.
If you can answer his questions, I think all my initial questions will be answered.

I'd also like to add, in addition to doors, would there be provisions for windows, or would the windows fall where we place them in the design?

Also, I'm assuming by referening a "facade", you're just looking for a "front" covering for the playhouse - please confirm.

Thankyou kindly, I'll look forward to coming up with something.
Kimber

Hi Alex & Kimber! Thanks for your interest in the project.

1. Will it be printed on a flat surface or will it be a 3D model based on our designs? The illustrations will be redrawn in a CAD program, with all four elevations and construction details.

2. Does it have any predetermined shape or do we have a 10x10 square to use our imagination on? Because we were only looking for the front elevation, I didn't go into specifics about the rest of the structure. The maximum front width is 10 ft. But it doesn’t have to be a straight 10 ft. The façade can step forward or back, keeping within the maximum width. The side of the structure is 8 ft wide. The highest point of the structure should be no more than 10 ft. tall. Hopefully, the pics may give you a better idea of where we're headed. They are some very basic thoughts on paper. I also included a scan from one of our favorite architecture books. This is basically the type of illustration we are looking for (without the call outs).

3. What size should the door be? Will the children be able to enter the house or is it for something else? If they can enter, we should probably calculate accurately the door and windows proportions. The door is 48" tall by 24" wide. Windows are approximately 14" x 20". Yes, this will be a real working playhouse—starting with children as young as 4, so the windows sit fairly low to the ground.
4. It would be great if you could give us a few links to pictures of similar products

Here is a site that sells playhouses from a variety of vendors. Be sure to scroll down the page to see them all.

Thanks, but that's not quite it. The illustration of the Queen Anne house above is the type of image we are looking for.

I'll work on something with more detail. So, do you just need a black and white line drawing?

Color would be nice, but the priority is detail in the drawing.

I look forward to seeing your work!
Thanks.

Let me know what you think of this. If you like the general layout, I can add more detail and post it Thursday night. Thanks!

Actually, it's pretty cute! I like the bargeboard design and the idea of the porch. Color choices are nice too. Proportionately, the door looks a little too wide.

But I have to be honest. With only one design submitted, it's pretty hard to make a call--nothing to compare it to. So, due to lack of interest, we're probably going to cancel the job at close of business tomorrow. (We'll communicate with the administrator on the best thing to do.)

I love the talent on designoutpost, but I understand that this just may not be the right forum for this type of project.

Thanks,
C
