[Project Complete] - Logo for New Pet Supplies Web Site/Business [C1] - $190
(Admin code added by Palmer - 7U4399037S1214223)
Design Outpost Creative Brief Worksheet
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Friendly Paws Pet Supplies.com
What type of product or service do you offer?
This e-commerce retail business offers pet enthusiasts a diverse range of supplies for their animal companions. These items are geared mainly toward dogs and cats but also include products for rabbits, small mammals, and reptiles.
How long have you been in business?
My company has been in the pet supplies market for six years. FriendlyPawsPetSupplies.com, however, is a new venture.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I would like the logo to be a symbol of a comprehensive source for unique pet products. It should include imagery, a color scheme, and a font with which pet people favorably identify.
What are your long term goals?
We aim to become a primary source of a wide variety of pet supplies.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Wednesday, May 2, 2012
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
The market includes people with dog, cat, rabbit, small mammal, and/or reptile companions.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
We want to grow our customer base into a larger and more diverse group with the same basic characteristics as the existing audience.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
The logo should fit with the style and color scheme of the attached template image.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I will be using the template shown in the attached image. The new logo should work with that color scheme.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I do not have any particular examples in mind. The logo likely should include in some way images of the pet species for which the products are targeted.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
It should suggest a comprehensive product selection from a trustworthy company.
What is your tagline or slogan?
The tagline/slogan is yet to be determined but will not be displayed in the logo. It will appear on the web site in another location.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
This web site carries a wide range of pet products including hard-to-find, in-demand brands.
Where will your new logo be used?
It will primarily appear in the banner header on the web site in the upper left tile (305 px W x 103 px H) to replace the Gaming GearHaven logo shown in the attached image. Also it should be readily adaptable to other applications such as e-mail headers, business cards, stationery, web banner ads. Perhaps developing the logo as a vector image to be included in the final deliverable package is the most efficient way to make it versatile…if doing so is consistent with Design Outpost policies.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
See the list below for a sample list of competing businesses. For the most part, the logos complement their web design adequately. However, our web template does not really resemble any of them, so modeling our logo after one of theirs does not seem appropriate because the comparison is akin to apples and oranges.
List competitive URLs if possible
http://www.petco.com/
http://www.petsmart.com/
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/
http://www.fetchdog.com/
http://www.pet-super-store.com/
http://www.ohmydogsupplies.com/
What sets you apart from your competitors?
FriendlyPawsPetSupplies.com carries a wide range of products including hard-to-find, in-demand brands.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Comprehensive product selection from a trustworthy company

Bill and NHR,
Thank you much for your design submissions. Here are my thoughts so far.
First, as a point of clarification, the new logo background should be transparent because the blue waves pattern in the existing template will stay in place across the entire header banner.
I like the blue hues you both have chosen. They seem to work well with the template color scheme. I am interested to see how a blue two-tone or multi-tone style would look on the text and graphic elements.
Since the logo will overlay the blue waves background, I would like some complementary colors as highlights to make the logo stand out prominently. Perhaps something in the ballpark of the orange shade in the game controller and Gaming GearHaven text in the template image above would be appropriate.
I definitely like the animal graphics since customers identify with images of pets. Please make them even more prominent.
The horizontal layout as in NHR's version 2.0 looks good. I also like the NHR version 2.0 domain text presentation in title case with no spaces.
Please let me know if I can provide any more information or clarification. Thanks in advance for your consideration and revisions.

Hello,
I would like to present this as my idea for your logo design.
I have reinforced the brand, by repeating the paw-print shape as the dot in the website name.
I would appreciate your feedback.
Respectfully,
Kimber

The same design, shown on the blue background.
The colour combinations could be switched up depending on the background on which the logo is being used. This is not uncommon in branding.
Please advise.

NHR,
Thank you for submitting your design revision. Please refer to the attached image for a rough approximation of how I picture version 2.1 would look merged into the FriendlyPawsPetSupplies.com template.
I would like to see how a few adjustments would look. First, please adjust the overall aspect ratio so the text portion moves lower. This change should even out the overall logo top and bottom margins within the blues waves arched header banner. Second, please further increase the size of the animal images to maintain about the same separation between the animal graphics section and text section. Third, please add 5 to 10 pixels of space between animal images.
Please let me know if I can provide any more information or clarification. Thanks in advance for your consideration and revisions.

Kimber (cre8or),
Thank you for submitting your designs. Please refer to the attached image for a rough approximation of how I picture version 02 would look merged into the FriendlyPawsPetSupplies.com template.
I would like to see how a few adjustments on version 02 would look. Please rearrange the elements so the logo will fit more naturally into the blues waves arched header. To this end, I would like to see two separate updates to the current version 02: 1.) Left justify the image and place the text above it; and 2.) Left justify the image with the text to its right, possibly with "FriendlyPaws" on one line and the "PetSupplies.com" part on a second line if doing so proportions it better for the blue waves background. The graphic section can be positioned lower into the blue waves arch even if doing so means the 305 px:103 px aspect ratio in message #1 (Apr. 13) is not maintained. However, please also include reasonable margins so no part of the logo jams against the edge of the blue waves background.
Please let me know if I can provide any more information or clarification. Thanks in advance for your consideration and revisions.

I'll wait for your further comment.

Kimber (cre8or),
Thank you for submitting your revisions. Please refer to the attached image for a rough approximation of how I picture version 04 would look merged into the FriendlyPawsPetSupplies.com template.
I would like to see how an adjustment on version 04 would look. Please scale up the text portion of the logo somewhat. Keep the text's top margin where it is. Move the text's right boundary farther right and the bottom boundary farther down. However, the text shouldn't expand so much as to crowd the dog's nose and the "Got a Question?..." text in the template.
Please let me know if I can provide any more information or clarification. Thanks in advance for your consideration and revision(s).

Hi Shimmeringleaf,
Here is the revision you requested. In the next post, I'll try to show how it might look in relation to your template.
Your should keep in mind that the Designer you choose, should provide you with files that you could dibble into place if they're not 100% exactly in the position you need them to be in.
Or, you could prehaps request an image and a text file separately.
Not that I mind at all, revising the design for you - I just wanted to bring that to your attention.
I will await your feedback.
Kimber

Kimber (cre8or),
Thank you for your latest logo versions.
I am wondering about the deliverables for this project. The Design Outpost Guide For Clients states in Step 14, "The designer will prepare a file package for you to download to your computer." What file formats are included in this package? Are all these files raster images, or are some vector images? I wonder because I want to use the logo in the web site header at one resolution and may have a future use for it at a higher resolution. If I have a vector image, the logo should retain the same clarity no matter the resolution. However, if I only have it in raster formats, higher resolutions will be pixelated/blurry.
Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Typically, I provide a variety of formats:
VECTOR:
Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Illustrator EPS
RASTER:
Photoshop (transparent background, 300dpi), JPG (300dpi), JPG (72dpi)
If you thought you needed something different, I would do my best to accommodate you.
